Saints Free Agency Update: Bye-Bye Bell?

The action is starting to heat up in this, the Saints first ever post-Super Bowl off-season. Yesterday, the team went on a tenderizing spree, making offers to eleven restricted free agents in addition to the two made yesterday to Zach Strief and Usama Young, bringing the grand total to thirteen RFA offers. Here is the full list of restricted free agents, for those of you keeping score at home...

Roman Harper (tendered 1st round - $2.521 million )

No surprises to me as far as the players who received tenders. All are deserving. There are, however, two players on the list who didn't receive offers and it's got me quite alarmed: Jahri Evans and Mike Bell.
Noticeably absent from the list is All-Pro guard Jahri Evans, but there's no reason for alarm.

Okay, so I'm not really alarmed that Mike Bell wasn't offered a contract but it's still interesting. There's definitely time left for an offer to be made but I'm thinking other than Jahri Evans, the Saints are finished with their tender offerings. In an attempt not to over pay, the Saints may let Bell hit the market and agree to match the best offer he receives. But like Darren Sharper said earlier this week...
"...if you want someone back, why are you going to let them test the market?,"
Ouch! So does this mean we get to fire up all the the LaDainian Tomlinson talk for real this time?
I was listening to Jeff Duncan discuss this very topic with Bobby and Deke on WWL's Sports Talk while driving to dinner last night. All of them thought Drew could very well be the reason we might see LT in a Saints uniform next season, so long as he was willing to accept a limited role in the Saints running back rotation.
If the LT talk remains pure speculation, then it could mean the Saints will definitely draft a running back at some point in this years draft. We know they almost traded up for Beanie Wells last year so that definitely within the realm of possibility. Or they might feel their running back is "already in the building." We'll just have to wait and find out.
The other thing to watch is the situation at offensive tackle. Though we don't know the details, Jammal Brown was tendered an offer and not signed to any long-term or significant deal. Jermon Bushrod and Zach Strief were also made offers so I would say the Saints are definitely looking for another team to bite on any one of them, most likely Brown or Bushrod. I'm with coldpizza; I'd like to see that happen.
One last point I wanted to make before turning it over to all of you. I'm sure most of us can agree that the new rules regarding free agency in the uncapped year are certainly a little confusing but opinion seems to be divided as to whether they're beneficial or harmful to the post-Super Bowl Saints this off-season. John DeShazier of the Times-Pic appears to be one of those "glass is half empty" people, judging from his latest article, "Free agency rules don't favor New Orleans Saints." He feels...
The rule changes that have gone into effect this year, the final year of the collective bargaining agreement between owners and players, certainly don't do the Saints any favors.
Specifically, this one: The final four playoff teams aren't allowed to sign any unrestricted free agents unless they lose one first, and they can only sign a new player at a similar salary level...
...Sure, it's a fact that New Orleans already has proven it has enough stars to reach the top. It'd be nice if the rules allowed them to bring in one or two more in the effort to stay there.
This may be true but I'm an optimistic kinda guy. How could you not be after this season. So I've got to disagree with John on this one. After all, if the Saints have "enough stars to reach the top" then we should be thankful that the other new free agency rules making certain players restricted free agents who would normally be unrestricted, also help keep some of those stars - like Jammal Brown, Roman Harper, Pierre Thomas, Jahri Evans and Anthony Hargrove - in New Orleans and away from greedy teams looking to pluck Super Bowl talent. Two sides to every coin. Hopefully after next season is over, we'll all be celebrating the Saints good fortune of winning their first Super Bowl directly before an uncapped season, giving them a better chance to win their second.

The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with offensive lineman Nick Leckey to a one-year contract, the team announced today.
Leckey actually reached the deal with the Saints on Thursday, one day before he was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, according to his agent Ken Harris. Harris said Leckey and his wife both wanted to stay with New Orleans, where he said his client raved about the atmosphere surrounding the team.
"So with Friday coming up and the opptunity to talk to other teams I said, 'Look, if New Orleans is what you really want you've got to let me know,' and he said that was what he wanted, absolutely," Harris said.
Harris declined to discuss details of the contract, but said it included sections that provided Leckey and the Saints opportunities to extend or modify the deal. Overall, he said, Leckey was delighted with developments.
"And, hey, he wants to win another Super Bowl ring," Harris said.
Leckey is a six-year veteran from Kansas State who signed with the Saints as an unrestricted free agent last offseason.
He played in eight games during the 2009 regular season, primarily on special teams with spot duty at center, and also appeared in all three postseason contests. The 6-foot-3, 291-pound lineman has played in 65 games in his NFL career, starting 32.

Fujita will likely play inside linebacker in the Cleveland Browns' 3-4 defense, next to centerpiece D'Qwell Jackson, a restricted free agent.
An eight-year veteran, Fujita will be expected to upgrade the Browns' rush defense in particular after playing on the strong side for the Super Bowl champion Saints. This will be Fujita's fourth stop of his career, previously playing four years for the Saints, one for the Cowboys, and three for the Chiefs.
The 30-year-old Fujita has amassed 20 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and five interceptions in his eight-year career. He missed a significant amount of time in 2009 due to a calf injury, playing just 10 games in the season, which was the lowest mark of his career. Despite solid big-play numbers over his career, he had just one sack, two forced fumbles and no interceptions in 2009.
A two-time captain with the Saints, Fujita will also bring leadership to a defense that was sorely lacking in the leadership department. His presence on the field should go a long way to unifying a Browns defense that has looked lost many times over the past few years.

NEW ORLEANS -- One month after the New Orleans Saints' first Super Bowl championship, the team and city were holding yet another party. :)
It took 43 years for the Saints to win their first title, and four weeks for NFL Films and Warner Home Video to complete a commemorative video recapping the best season in franchise history.
The video's official release was set for Tuesday, hours after a premiere at the 95-year-old Prytania Theater in New Orleans' historic Uptown neighborhood on Monday night.
The guest list for the premiere included Drew Brees, who tied Tom Brady's Super Bowl record with 32 completions, and Tracy Porter, whose interception return for a touchdown gave the Saints an insurmountable two-touchdown lead over the Indianapolis Colts late in the fourth quarter.
Jeff Brown, a Warner Home Video executive vice president specializing in TV sports and animation, said orders from retailers were already 25 percent above expectations.
"We definitely find a correlation to the first time a team wins and sales, and our orders from retail partners are confirming that," Brown said.
The Indianapolis Colts were trying to win for the second time in four seasons, so "when the interception occurred by Porter, we knew it was going to help us. That's just based on history, nothing against the Colts," Brown said.
The video reviews the season game by game in chronological order, highlighting key plays from each contest, with NFL Films narration interspersed with broadcast calls from games, many by Saints radio play-by-play announcer Jim Henderson and color commentator Hokie Gajan. Mixed in are close-ups of players discussing the action during games with teammates, coaches and even adversaries.
Those curious about what kind of gum head coach Sean Payton was craving during the final minutes of the Super Bowl will hear it from the coach himself.
Then there's Payton's well-chronicled exchange with Garrett Hartley moments before the young kicker made his field goal to send the Saints to their first Super Bowl.
"You just groove this thing," Payton can be heard saying. "I don't want you thinking about anything but hitting that fleur-de-lis. Just hit your kick though, son. Here's why. You deserve to be here."
Linebacker Scott Fujita, who spent four season in New Orleans before signing as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns the day before the premiere, is prominently featured in clips from the Super Bowl.
In a segment from the first half, Fujita jokes with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning: "How about throwing us a few." :^0

In the fourth quarter, Fujita walks toward Manning and yells, "Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you," :^0 a mocking reference to one of Manning's many endorsement deals.
Fujita then turns to linebacker Scott Shanle and says, "I just told him the Oreo joke. I don't think he liked it." ;)
Fujita wore a microphone during the game, but had to be talked into it.
"I'm glad I did it because it was hilarious," Fujita said Monday by phone from his home near Monterey, Calif., adding that leaving the Saints won't lessen his enthusiasm for the video. "No matter what color I'm wearing, I'm always going to have this past season and all those experiences, not just of the 2009 year and the Super Bowl, but everything the last four years. Those are things we will carry forever."
The video frames the Saints' march to their first championship in the context of the city's recovery from Hurricane Katrina, highlighting the uplifting role the franchise has played in the community since the storm struck in 2005. Also included are clips from Super Bowl media day and a feature on reserve defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove, who came back from a year's suspension that stemmed from drug abuse and turned his life around while helping the Saints win their championship.
And as the credits role, there are scenes from the Saints' championship parade back in New Orleans, accompanied by an instrumental version of the classic "When the Saints Go Marching In," the song for which the team was named.

The Saints have re-signed CB Leigh Torrence for one year, according to a league source.
Torrence, a restricted free agent, played in five games last season before a shoulder injury ended his season. The five-year veteran mostly plays on special teams for the Saints.

Benson Honored by Loyola with highest honor

Tom Benson, owner of Super Bowl XLIV championship team the New Orleans Saints, is the 2010 recipient of the Integritas Vitae Award, Loyola University New Orleans highest honor.
The Integritas Vitae Award is presented by Loyolas board of trustees to an individual who exemplifies the qualities Loyola seeks to instill in its students. The recipient is chosen for displaying high moral character and selfless service, without expectation of material reward or public recognition, and adhering to the principles of honesty, integrity, justice and the preservation of human dignity. Benson will be honored at Loyolas Benefactors Dinner on March 11 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.
The Saints entered their 25th season under Tom Bensons ownership in 2009, a season that culminated with the team winning its first NFC and Super Bowl championships in the franchises history. Benson has been the driving force behind campaigns to secure Super Bowls for New Orleans, and during his tenure, the city hosted four Super Bowls and recently landed Super Bowl XLVII, to be played in 2013.

Benson will be honored at Loyolas Benefactors Dinner on March 11 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.
The Saints entered their 25th season under Tom Bensons ownership in 2009, a season that culminated with the team winning its first NFC and Super Bowl championships in the franchises history. Benson has been the driving force behind campaigns to secure Super Bowls for New Orleans, and during his tenure, the city hosted four Super Bowls and recently landed Super Bowl XLVII, to be played in 2013.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Devery Henderson will be honored this Saturday, March 13, with a parade and other special events in his hometown of Opelousas.
The parade will begin at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 2 p.m., travel through the downtown area and end at Donald Gardner Stadium.

Eva Noel, an administrator with Mayor's office, said the parade will work in collaboration with area schools, featuring marching bands, dance troops and other student groups that will make up the heart of the celebration

Brown, a former fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2002, has played his entire eight-year NFL career to date with Chicago, appearing in 127 regular season games with 107 starts. The 6-3, 260-pound lineman has totaled 481 tackles (289 solo) with 42½ sacks, five interceptions, 16 forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries in his career. He has also played in four postseason games all starts making 14 tackles with one sack.

But he said that he and the Saints have had "meaningful" and "positive" discussions about a long-term contract extension for the restricted free agent. And he said it's possible that Evans could rejoin the Saints even before a deal gets worked out if talks remain positive.

Canfield has prototypical NFL size and release and succeeds in reading coverages and making pre-snap reads. The left-handed signal-caller has enough of an arm to make most of the throws needed in the NFL.
The choice of the 6-3 1/2 , 222 pound Canfield was the Saints final pick in the draft, which began on Thursday night and witnessed the Super Bowl champions taking Florida State CB Patrick Robinson. The Saints followed that selection up on Friday by selecting Southern California LT Charles Brown with the 64th pick overall. Day two concluded with the Saints tabbing athletically gifted tight end Jimmy Graham with the 95th pick overall (third down) out of the University of Miami.
Day three started with the Saints moving up in the fourth round and taking a local product: LSU defensive tackle Al Woods with the 123rd draft choice (fourth round). The Saints then traded a 2011 fourth round draft choice in order to move back into the draft in the fifth round and selected Boston College center Matt Tennant. New Orleans Saints: Vikings Shiancoe Uses Sharper As Target Practice, But Sharper Fires Back!

Perhaps one of the greatest modern day rivalries in the NFL is officially forming between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings after an epic showdown in the NFC Championship game last season.
That game was of course one that will go down in infamy as the Saints aggressively beat and battered on Brett Favre while forcing an abundance of turnovers which ultimately cost Minnesota the game.
Now of course the Vikings and their fans think they should have won the game and accuse the Saints of purposefully going after Favre with the intention to hurt him citing several late hits on the 40-year old quarterback.
New Orleans counters by stating they were only playing an aggressive style of defense and that rushing the passer (Favre) is a normal thing for NFL defenses to do.
Let the rivalry begin.
After the game Favre’s ankle was so badly hurt that it would require surgery this off-season which he opted to have just a few weeks ago,
Once news broke that Favre had the surgery, which all but guarantees he returns for the 2010-2011 season, Saints free safety Darren Sharper decided to post a tweet about the upcoming game between the Saints and Vikings September 9th instigating a tweet of words between he and Shiancoe.

No reply has been given from Shiancoe yet but you can bet the NFL’s opening game of the 2010-2011 season will be one to remember judging by the actions of these two.
Neither the NFL or head coach Sean Payton (Saints) and Brad Childress (Vikings) have said anything to this point condoning either players statements to betting game checks and throwing dirty tackles but stay tuned to see where it goes from here.

NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints have made one long-term contract offer to Pierre Thomas since the Super Bowl, and the value was not close to what the club's leading running back was seeking, Thomas' agent said.
"The Saints have refused to negotiate with us. They've given us one proposal," agent Lamont Smith said Wednesday. "Pierre made the NFL minimum (salary) the last three years and was their leading rusher the last two. He made all the plays necessary. ... He's done all the right things. He played his (first) contract out."
The Saints generally do not discuss ongoing negotiations, and when asked to respond to Smith's comments, general manager Mickey Loomis said only that Smith "is correct that we are far apart."
Thomas, who signed a three-year contract with the Saints as an undrafted rookie in 2007, is a restricted free agent. The Saints tendered him a one-year offer of about $1.7 million. Because the period when Thomas could sign more lucrative offers from other teams has passed, the Saints have Thomas' rights for 2010.
Thomas wants a longer extension worth far more than the lone multiyear offer New Orleans has made so far, which was the reason he skipped the Saints' mandatory minicamp last weekend and has remained absent for voluntary practices.
Thomas led the Saints in yards rushing (793) and rushing touchdowns (six) last season and also had 302 yards and two TDs receiving. He then scored a 38-yard touchdown on a screen pass in the NFC championship game against Minnesota and added a 16-yard score on a screen in New Orleans' Super Bowl triumph over Indianapolis.
His 1,095 yards and eight touchdowns from scrimmage in 2009 compared favorably to Reggie Bush's 725 yards and eight TDs from scrimmage. Bush is slated to earn around $8 million next season.
Smith declined to specify what Thomas expects to be paid, but he said the figure is not in the realm of the more than $8 million per year that St. Louis star running back Steven Jackson could earn over the life of his six-year contract he signed in 2008.
Smith would not specify what the Saints had offered Thomas so far, but when asked if it was as much as the three-year, $11 million deal the Philadelphia Eagles recently reached in March with fullback Leonard Weaver, Smith said, "No."
Because Thomas has not signed his tender, he cannot be fined for missing mandatory practices and could become a training camp holdout if the two sides do not start moving closer soon.
"The reality is with running backs, he's in the prime of his career," Smith said of Thomas, who'll be 26 in December. "Running backs have some of the shortest careers in the NFL and are often let go after they're 30. If he doesn't get a big contract when he's in the prime of his career, then when does he get security?"

The " 2009 " New Orleans Saints gathered as a team for perhaps the last time Wednesday night, walking the red carpet to the Roosevelt Hotel and heading inside for a private ceremony to receive Super Bowl XLIV championship rings.
The Tiffany pieces, glittering with diamonds and yellow gold, were remarkably valuable in and of themselves -- no one would offer a precise appraisal, although some estimates ran to $30,000 a pop -- but quarterback Drew Brees said they were more priceless than a Faberge egg.
"It symbolizes not just this year, but the culmination of four years of ups and downs," Brees said. "A lot of work and a lot of struggle, but we found a way to become world champions -- and it was never about just one person or even just the team. It was about our city and the community."
Still, from a player and team standpoint, it's not too shabby, Brees said. It seemed impossible the ring could hold so many iconic images of New Orleans, and Brees said some of the touches might resonate only with a Saints insider.
"It's absolutely perfect," he said.
A small crowd gathered on University Place as the Saints trickled in, shouting encouragement to familiar players like tight end Jeremy Shockey and safety Darren Sharper and big roars for Brees, Coach Sean Payton and owner Tom Benson.
Most of the Saints were dressed to the nines, but Benson outshone them all in a bespoke black suit with gold pin stripes that read "Saints world champions." When asked about his duds, Benson gave a sprightly half-spin and said, "If you can't dress up tonight when can you?"
In addition to finery, nearly every member of the organization wore a huge smile -- and the vibe from many was something close to rhapsodic.
General Manager Mickey Loomis was momentarily nonplussed on the runway when a scribe joked, "What are you wearing?' ("Target," he eventually shot back), but there wasn't any doubt about what they would be wearing when they left -- and in case anyone had any doubt, the singular blue Tiffany boxes stacked outside would have removed it.
"I don't know about best behavior tonight. We're going to enjoy it," Loomis said, beaming. "We're going to reflect on the game and celebrate the game, obviously, and the accomplishment."
The Saints rings were, a press release proudly noted, "Handcrafted in yellow gold featuring the New Orleans Saints fleur-de-lis logo set with round diamonds. 'World Champions' is bezel set with eight diamonds on the top of the ring."
Said kicker Garrett Hartley: "I don't really wear too much bling."
So how much will he wear this ring?
"Well, I probably imagine for the first couple of days it would be a little more," said Hartley whose field goal in overtime against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC championship game at the Superdome put the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV. Also, his three kicks of more than 40 yards against the Indianapolis Colts set a Super Bowl record. "I might sleep in it tonight, I'm not exactly sure yet. After that, I'll probably put it in a safety or a lock box."
Despite all the accomplishments they have racked up over a professional athlete's career, the Saints said nothing compared to this.
"This is special. I've been waiting for a championship ring for a while now," offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod said. "Since high school, actually, and to get it here at the highest level it's a blessing, let me tell you."
Another blessing, several Saints said, was the presence of so many people who had meant so much to the team leading up to that magical 31-17 victory over the Colts. Among the former players included in the ring ceremony were Charles Grant, Mike McKenzie, Scott Fujita, John Carney, Mark Brunell, Paul Spicer, Darnell Dinkins, Billy Miller, Jamar Nesbit, Mike Bell and Deuce McAllister.
As defensive coordinator Gregg Williams noted, he could not wait to hobnob and celebrate with so many former Saints defenders, some of whom he described as his favorite people and, in Fujita's case, a friend off the field as well.
"And then tomorrow that's over, and I'll be dedicated to trying to whip Fujita's butt when he comes here with Cleveland this fall," Williams said.
For all Williams' jocularity, however, there were signs of the world spinning on.
Saints executive vice-president Rita Benson LeBlanc, for instance, stressed the celebration would also take note that one ring -- the one auctioned to raise Gulf Coast oil spill relief money -- would not be awarded inside the Roosevelt.
Payton, who said he couldn't envision a fleur-de-lis and jewelry not matching beautifully, said he felt another familiar juice starting to flow.
"Certainly, we've got the trip in August coming up the White House, but this does put closure on it," he said. "But I'll tell you what else it does. It whets your appetite, and once you achieve something like this, you certainly thirst for more."

The New Orleans Saints offensive line was honored Monday following practice as the squad received the first Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award presented by Prilosec OTC.
The accolade recognizes the NFL’s top offensive line, based on their 2009 regular season performance.
Saints Owner/President Tom Benson, his wife Gayle, Owner/Executive Vice President Rita Benson LeBlanc, Head Coach Sean Payton and QB Drew Brees presented the offensive line with the 150-pound award.
“I would like to congratulate the Saints offensive line for receiving the inaugural Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award,” said Hall of Fame coach John Madden in a statement. “Your offensive line was a model of consistency for the entire 2009 season and established the foundation for the best offensive attack in the NFL. With reliable run blocking and powerful pass protection your unit played a substantial role in bringing the city of New Orleans its first ever Super Bowl trophy.”
“On behalf of the line, I would like to thank John Madden, Prilosec OTC, coach (Sean) Payton, Drew (Brees) and the rest of our coaching staff and players,” said offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb. “This is a special group that we get to play alongside. To a man, we are grateful to play beside people that we enjoy getting out there and playing the game next to.”
The Saints offensive attack has been ranked first in the NFL three of the last four seasons, including the 2009 campaign, the second consecutive year they did so.
In 2009, the Saints offense averaged 403.8 yards per game, making them the only team in the league to average at least 400 yards per game. The Saints were the only team to be ranked in the top six in both passing and rushing offense.
Additionally, the Saints running game significantly improved its rushing attack in 2009, rising in the NFL net yardage rankings from 28th to sixth in the NFL, averaging 131.6 yards per game.
Saints RB Reggie Bush told NewOrleansSaints.com that the offensive line spearheads the Saints’ offensive attack.
“They are the reason we have been able to have the success we have had on offense,” said Bush. “Without them, we couldn’t make the plays and offensive touchdowns people are accustomed to seeing from us.”
Along with the award, Brees presented his protectors with a gift of his own.
“Not only is our offensive line receiving the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award, they will receive an advance copy of Madden NFL 11 video game,” said Brees. “It comes out August 10 right here in New Orleans in what they are calling ‘Madden Gras.’ If you thought Mardi Gras was crazy then I guess Madden Gras will be even crazier.
“I wouldn’t be on the cover if it weren’t for these guys. I can’t think of a group that is more deserving of the Most Valuable Protectors Award.”

A play called 'Ain't Dat Super' captures the true Who Dat spirit

Perry Martin directs “Ain't Dat Super” by Steven Scaffidi and Nick Gambino. This unique theatrical experience involves the patrons of a bar on Super Bowl Sunday who humorously and lovingly revel in Saints fandom and explore the history of the franchise /
It begins with the tailgate party, complete with live music and joyously raucous fans donned in black and gold and beer in hand.
Then, the crowds pour in with a surge of rambunctious energy and fill the seats, pausing only to answer the call of the occasional outburst of “Who Dat!” from elsewhere in the crowd. Elated still from their beloved Saints' Super Bowl win, the fan's minds are teeming with the possibilities of a new season, and their excitement is palpable.
While the sight is familiar, the setting may surprise you. As the crowds filed in for the premier of Nicholas Gambino and Steven Scaffidi's “Ain't Dat Super!” at the Mahalia Jackson Theater, the unique vibe of Saints super-fandom made for a truly one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
“Ain't Dat Super” was in the works even before the historic Super Bowl Championship. While writer Steven Scaffidi was working to create a unique look at the history of professional football in New Orleans, the Saints were working their way towards franchise history. This win only meant one thing: the novel (and eventually, the play) Scaffidi was already working on would now have the perfect ending.
The play is centered around two brothers who, on the day of Super Bowl XLIV, walk into a mid-city New Orleans bar to watch the game with “the greatest fans in the world.” It soon becomes apparent to the bartender, Roxy, as well as the regular clientele that there is something unusual about these men. Particularly intriguing about the strangers is their claim that they have had a hand in every major event in Saints football history. As the brothers begin spinning their tale, the patrons of the bar are literally pulled into the story, actually becoming the characters, some of the biggest names in the franchise family tree.
This ain't ya momma's evening of theatre. Under the direction of Perry Martin, “Super” is a play with the spirit of a football game. Theatre etiquette has playfully been thrown out as the actors acknowledge minor performance and technical snafus with humor and candor, and audience members cheer and yell along with them. In many ways, the show's magic is a credit to the audience who thankfully bring their faithful and fanatic whodat camaraderie to the experience. This is a New Orleanian's play filled with inside jokes and memories — the good and the bad.
Randy Chermaine and John “Spud” McConnell are undeniable perfection as two mysterious brothers. Their stage presence, versatility and casual coolness set the tone perfectly. Not to be outdone, Becky Allen shines as the loveably irascible barkeep, Roxy. Dane Rhodes, Mary Lee Gibbons, Travis Resor, and Casey McMurry round out a cast that has more fun on stage that any I've seen.
The script does sacrifice character development for plot so that it can fit in all those great stories from the team's history. As a result, the supporting characters are really just there for practical and logistical reasons, being used to act out the franchise history vignettes. As the story unfolds, we learn that Roxy has perhaps the most concrete connection with the team, and her character becomes by far the most interesting and developed, loaded with triumphs and tragedies, and leaving the audience wanting much more of her.
Since the play seeks to capture that amazing atmosphere we all felt this past season wherever we went or whenever we sat in a bar with friends, it would be real treat to see the play performed in a much more intimate space. While the size of the Mahalia allowed many more whodats to crowd in, we all longed to be closer to that warm excitement on stage.
With so many local plays lately focusing on the tragedies that have affected us all, it's nice to see that this amazing victory that has unified and defined us all has made its way onto the stage. “Ain't Dat Super” truly is a tribute to those who never lost their never-ending belief and faith. Every New Orleanian should make a point to check out his show before its brief run ends.
