Nah, I'm gonna let it run. I only invested £20, purely because I was feeling particularly flush after landing a couple of mugg accas. Normally I struggle to justify putting money into a market that could run for more than a day, never mind 7 months!
Can't see us beating Halladay in Game 1 though. Doc is more likely no pitch another no hitter than any of the Giants doing anything of note against him! All depends on whether Lincecum can go toe to toe with him.
I wonder what the total runs line will be on this one...

do either sf or tex have a realistic chance of causing an upset? the phi rotation is pretty awesome. although the nyy pitchers look a tad vulnerable they should get a lot of run support. phi/nyy ws looks a given.

I wouldn't rule out the Giants. Phillies have had a fair few spells this season where their bats turned stone cold. Halladay finished the season with 10 losses, a fair few of which I'm sure were 1-0 losses.
Giants' rotation is just as good as the Phillies. The only difference is that the Phillies have a LOT a recent playoff experience, whereas Giants have only played one series in the last 8 years.
This series has the potential to go right down to the wire.
I think the Yanks have too many hitters in their team to have any woes with the bat. If anything it's about controlling how many runs they leak. Should be one high scoring series and one low scoring series IMO.

phi bats are hot now, though. no reason to think they'll freeze overnight. we shall see
every time i happened to watch cc he had a bad game, so despite what i said earlier i'm having a dabble on tex tonight

No surprise to see the Yankees batters get CC out of a hole again. Also no surprise to see that this went over the total runs.
RE the Phillies vs Giants, no matter how good your batters are, it is always difficult to hit high class pitching. This series will be more about the battle of the bullpens than the starting pitchers IMO. Although Halladay pitches so many complete games that the Phillies might not even need their bullpen tonight.

I did over 9.5 yesterday and over 8.5 today but got robbed on the price
I might try over 7.5 on San fran, should be a tight low scoring game but you never know

Bottom_of_the_League 17 Oct 10 02:09 Not really, six through four innings with the score 1-1 is pretty standard.
6 from 8 hits is anything but 'standard'
2-1 Giants Ross AGAIN!

The average number of LOB per game over a season is about 14, or 1.55 per inning (for both teams combined). 6 LOB after 4 innings is 1.5 per inning, looks pretty standard to me.

San fran are low scorers, and therefore don't get as many on base.
Either way, it's still a large amount.
You are comparing it to everyone over a season.San fran are low scorers, and therefore don't get as many on base.Either way, it's still a large amount.
Of course if you're needing runs, every LOB is a potential run so it distorts your view.
Looking at the Giants specifically, they were 19th this season in MLB for OBP. Just below average, so there are 11 teams with fewer men on base this past season.

I assume by the first line of your comment you are accusing me of being biased, which I must tell you I've got 50's and 25's (as previously mentioned) on Giants for the world series, so I'm not sure why i would be biased as they are 2-1 and it's going my way, but fair enough

The Giants get pretty much an average number of men on base, the two teams had pretty much the average number of men left on base the first four innings.
I don't see how that can be anything but pretty standard. You said it wasn't. I disagree.

Bottom_of_the_League 17 Oct 10 02:31 Looked a clear home run off the bat, but didn't matter as he scored anyway.
Agree, and Phillies have every right to be unhappy, pitch before looked a strike out

It's been a strange game. The strike zone looked pretty big the first two innings, but then suddenly he is calling everything close a ball. All you want is consistency and the umpire hasn't been.

BOTL - I think thats what keeps most big punters away from MLB.
I've not been on this forum often but I remember Lori (who seemed to create most the markets) giving it up, and I think that was one of the reasons.
This game should really be 2-1, as it was a strike (imo) but I can't moan. Got Giants for the World Series and over 7.5 this game, so it's either 1-0 Giants for the series, or I win my bet. Either way i can't moan, and you never know, Giants could win 7-1

Lori was a relatively small player according to himself. I was for a long time Betfair's large baseball gambler in terms of turnover, and still was this season last I heard. You can win on the sport, you just need to be very strict as the margins are tight.

any thoughts on tonights game, difficult one to call?
oswalt was average enough in the regular season but it's a game the phillies really can't afford to lose

When AJ was with the Jays and fell behind in the count he couldn't go to his curveball, which at the time was just about his only decent pitch, and certainly was his get out pitch.

Some strange decisions prior to Molina's homer last night, the Yankees didn't seem to know what they were doing. Looking forward to the game just about to start, always good to see the Yankees under pressure.

Thanks rink rat. There’s still time for it to go t1ts up however!
I wouldn’t call it a great tip though, as much as I’d love to! It was just a £20 bet that I put on them at what I thought were pretty nice odds given their pitching rotation. I thought Lincecum, Cain, Zito and Sanchez would give teams trouble more often than not. Didn’t know much at all about Bumgarner, who now seems to have overtaken Zito (who this year earns $3.5m more than the other 4 starting pitchers put together!)
I wasn’t even aware how strong or otherwise their batting line up was. As it turns out they’re making the runs when they need them most, which is very pleasing.
Hopefully they can pinch a game in Texas so that they’re not trailing 3-2 by the time they return to SF. Or better still, let’s hope they make it boring and complete the sweep on Sunday, Onions!
