Can someone help please . I had a substantial bet on the number of First Downs in the superbowl going over 44.5. Can someone enlighten me on this bet and inparticular the rules. Does a First Down count only when they make a first down and not when they start a drive from a kick off/turnover?

I counted way over 44.5 in the whole game.

I have looked for the rules on this bookmakers particular website and cannot find anything. When i asked for the rules on the phone the operator didn't have a clue so I asked and presumed it was any first down.

Cheers

43 1st downs according to espn. They wouldn't count those gained on kickoffs / turnovers etc, they have to be first downs won by moving the ball .

As far as i know a first down can only come from the offence so a kick return does not count

Crazily enough, NFL.com is a pretty good source for this type of info.

43 First Downs.
