elway

By:
Yep, Elway merits consideration
By:
Kurt Warner would be in my top 5
By:
Surely the top 4 can't all come from the recent past. When did the NFL begin?
By:
Agree Joe is No.1

The National Football League was founded in 1920 under the name American Professional Football Association. The name was changed to National Football League in 1922.
Always difficult on this to go back too far as I certainly wasnt watching pre the 1980's! |

By:
Peyton 'Golden media boy' Manning
He's useless. |
By:
Roger Staubach and Bart Starr deserve a mention as well ... played in the days before the West coast offence but both called all the plays and did not have an offensive coordinator picking the plays.
By:
Surely Tom 'Three Rings' Brady is much better.
By:
also Fran Tarkenton needs consideration.... agree about Joe being tops though
By:
bart starr !!
By:
Fran Tarkenton was brilliant ...

1.Montana
2.Unitas 3.Manning 4.Marino 5.Simms |
By:
having never actually seen unitas play i can only go with guys i have.
1 manning 2 montana 3 elway 4 and 5 perm any 2 from brady, brees, marino, young, warner. i know brees will look a bizarre choice but hey whaddya gonnado lol :) but obviously this has a very strong bias to recent times and isnt going to be accurate. but like i said how do i include guys ive never seen play??? |
By:
1. John ELWAY
2. Drew BREES 3. Dan Marino 4.Joe Montana 5. Peyton Manning |
By:
Simms? Bullwinkle ... are you from NY ...
By:
I was a huge Simms fan..... but there is no way on this blue and green planet he is one of the best 5 of all time :^0
By:
No...Im not from NY but I always admired Simms as a QB and playing in NY all that time. Sports Illustrated called him the most underrated QB of all time and I would go with that. I never saw Unitas other than on tapes and documentaries but you have got to admire him - a real tough man

Brodie croyle dont need anymore.
By:
for me. and only been watching mid/late 80's
montana elway brady manning marino.. manning to go to 2 with another sb victory |
By:
K Warner is 1.01 in top five.. if this guy had started earlier he would hold every record in the book and took 2 of the suckiest francises in recent history to the superbowl.
a total legend |
By:
1.Manning
2.Elway 3.Montana 4.Marino 5.Young for me |
By:
for got about young. he may push marino out of my top 5
By:
it's the lack of pass rush thats helping sanchez too
By:
Impossible to rate Tarkenton, unitas etc. Since channel 5/ Sky coverage started
1. Montana- most complete but helped by having Jerry Rice 2. Elway- the best when the *****were down 3. Brady- you won't like it but he is the iceman: helped by a great all round team 4. Favre- did it in a weaker team and look at the durability 5. Young- learned it from Montana but still great all rounder Sorry: Manning and Marino are too one dimensional and rely on really good receivers and/or offensive lines |
By:
The usual suspects voting for Manning, and in the process showing their lack of NFL acumen.
By:
1. Joe Montana
By:
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Terry Bradshaw on this thread probably not one of the great pure passers but four rings says all you want to know about his ability to manage a game. I think to be a top 5 quarterback you must call your own games.
By:
farves throws a bit off. he looks fcuked
By:
troy aikman?
By:
Troy Aikman? Might as well include Jeff Hostetler, Ryan Leif and Kyle Orton
By:
amazed favre is in so few of these lists. the durability, the consecutive games streak, the fact he's still doing it at forty. like him or not, surely an all-time great.
By:
An all time great, but 2 superbowl appearances (1 win) on the teams hes been on....not good enough..without even mentioning the INT's.
By:
no mention of tom brady?
By:
Sharp post Max.
The disrespect shown to Brady this season has been embarassing to all true NFL fans. A 4000+ yard season after a potential career ending injury and the guy gets no respect. Football outsiders had him as the number 1 rated QB with strength of schedule factored in. If the pats had the colts D this year theyd be odds on for the title at this stage. Fact. |
By:
noone even mentioned Joe Theismann
By:
Lol, if Joe had a account hed be worse than me.
By:
1. Montana
2. Marino 3. Elway 4. Favre 5. Young Am too young to have seen Unitas, Namath or Tarkenton. |
