Last night in the college football lsu were playing old miss and driving for the winning td,their quaterback connected with a receiver that gave them a 1st and goal with 1 sec left .

But with no timeouts they didn't have an opportunity to get the kicking team on so the quarterback spiked the ball on the very next play, however they only had 1 sec left so this play effectively ended the match !!!
A disaster for them as they could have kicked a field goal to win the match. if they had the time

Question is......................could lsu have taken a delay of game penalty and then got their field goal team on ?

Pretty sure there's a run-off, maybe 10 seconds, when penalised under 2 minutes left.

yeah im sure an offensive penalty, makes a 10sec run off the clock, seem to remember the cards doing near the same thing a couple of years back.

The clock starts to run once the line of scrimmage is ready, so once they are ready, the clock starts and the game is over. Not sure how they could take a delay of game which would use 25 seconds of clock?

I'd assumed the clock was stopped :|

The clock stops temporarily for a first down and starts again on the refs whistle when ready to play, there was easily enough time to get the fg unit on if they were ready to go, the fact that they weren't for me was possibly the grossest case of incompetance I've ever witnessed in coaching and no I didn't back them.

a good case for sacking the coach as you'd like to think he had a plan if his quarterback connected on that 40 yard throw like he did

What about the way they let 17 secs go off the clock before calling time out the play before.

true, another diabolical call, think they just plain forgot about that one, felt sorry for lsu as they managed to get the onside kick back before going on a roll only to have their coach show a startling amount of ineptitude
