The greatest horse in the world is set to grace the upcoming Royal Ascot carnival with her presence. Black Caviar, the wonder-mare that has won 21 races from 21 starts, has been entered in both the Kings Stand Stakes and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes during the annual carnival. Trainer Peter Moody has said that he has entered Black Caviar in the Kings Stand as a bit of insurance; she will only run in the Kings Stand if there is a minor hiccup on the way over which could inhibit her over the longer distance.
Rest assured, if there is a hiccup on the trip from Australia to the UK, she will not be running in either race. So, with that in mind, there is some major value to be had in the Kings Stand Stakes. With Black Caviar, the $4 favorite, more than likely to come out, the top hopes look to be fellow Australian horses Ortensia (9.4) and Foxwedge (8.8). Ortensia returned to her best form earlier in the year upon winning the Al Quoz Sprint at the Dubai World Cup, and has been set for this. Foxwedge is a young colt whose value would sky-rocket with a win at Royal Ascot. Both horses odds will be slashed dramatically when Black Caviar is in all likelihood a non-starter in the race, so best pick one now and snap-up the great odds. For mine, I like the look of Ortensia in this one, but it's a toss of the coin job in all honesty.
Looking a few days further ahead to the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, over 1200 meters, and Black Caviar is the dominant favourite at 1.64. These odds may seem short on the surface, but bare in mind that Black Caviar has consistently destroyed all and sundry that has dared challenge her over the past 18 months at odds no greater than 1.10. My advice is to get the 1.64 while you can then sit back and enjoy the one of the greatest sights in the history of racing.
