Evening Racing Free Horse Racing Tips
Horse racing betting expert Andy Newton gives you his best bets and dangers ahead of tonight’s jumping card at Worcester racecourse.
17:50 – A Hunters’ Chase to get things started here and although I don’t confess to be an expert in this sphere I think we could do a lot worse than backing MAD VICTOR, plus having a small saver on Jim Edwards. At 10 years-old both come into the race with plenty of experience, while Mad Victor’s rider Hannah Watson looked a very accomplished pilot when having a winner at Southwell yesterday.
18:20 – Similar to the first race, I think Donald McCain’s likely favourite SARA’S SMILE will be hard to beat here, but for those of you that like the cautious approach then a small saver on AP’s mount Sentimentaljourney is advised too. The main selection was a fair winner at Hexham last time, but she doesn’t come without her problems after hanging badly left in her last two starts. Yes, this left-handed track will suit, plus connections will be hoping the introduction on cheekpieces will help her cause.
18:50 – Recently married Paul Nicholls doesn’t have too many summer jumpers, so the ones he does run should be noted. The Dicheat handler has a fair record here at Worcester and with all that in mind his KING’S LEGACY will be hard to beat in this one. Yes, he was a beaten jolly last time, but despite losing he still put in a career-best effort and is worth a second chance having his first run over fences today.
19:20 – AP’s mount Kasban will be a popular choice here, but he’s likely to be no price at all and I’ll take ELY BROWN and SILVER STORY against him. The first-named has the talented Peter Carberry taking off a handy 5lbs from the plate, and after a decent bumper debut second last month (pulled clear of the third) he’s an interesting one trying hurdles for the first time. The other pick, Silver Story, comes from the red-hot Tim Vaughan yard, which have sent out 7 winners from their last 18 runners, and with cheekpieces added to the regular tongue-tie he’s one for the shortlist too.
19:50 – Jonjo’s O’Callaghan Strand is interesting, especially with the yards excellent record at the track, but he’s likely to be well-backed with AP riding and I’ll take the joint top-weight UDEMAN and ONLY HOPE to see him off. The former was a decent point-to-point winner last time and with the runner-up having won again since then the form is clearly above average. The other, ONLY HOPE, has a touch of second-itis, but this means he’s almost certain to be in the mix again and with Peter Carberry taking off 5lbs this will help hep cause.
20:20 – The best race on the card sees plenty of old names locking horns again. Top-weight Swing Bill, under Timmy Murphy, should figure, but he’s had a fairly busy season and his last run 12 days ago wasn’t that encouraging. Jonjo runs two, but AP chooses Nostringsattached, so you’d have to think he’s the more fancied of the pair. However, my picks are going to be CULLAHILL and COMMEMORATION DAY. The first-named gets in here off bottom-weight, but more importantly he’s a two-time course winner, once over this trip. He’s also got a great record at this time of year, so it will be a minor shock if he’s not in the mix come the final few furlongs. My other pick, Commemoration Day, is another course winner and despite looking a shade high in the weights I think a return to the venue he’s gone well at before could be enough to see him run a big race too.
20:50 – Not a lot to go on in this bumper, so the safest option looks to be to side with one that’s at least been on the track before. Richard Johnson stays on to ride Keith Goldsworthy’s COCKK OF THE ROCK and he could be the answer. After four points runs he got off the mark over course and distance here last year and with a whole host of winners coming out of that race then the form looks rock solid.
