6 of Khabib's 10 UFC fights have gone the distance but he has only fought for 5 rounds once. A lot of people think the longer the fight goes on the less chance Conor has but that is in the expectation that most of the fight will be on the floor. Once Khabib gets you down he tends to stay in control for minutes. I can see the fight going the distance but if it pans out as expected, with a lot of the fight on the floor I don't think Conor will have the upper hand.

But I've learned from McG fights that nothing would surprise me with him anymore. He has upset the general consensus in nearly all of his big fights and they have generally gone the opposite to what was expected. I also think that Dana is delighted to have him back and you can see from the money this fight will make, with a fairly poor card otherwise, how valuable he is to the UFC. The new owners recently bought the UFC for $4bn and need McG back. That might translate into a 50/50ish 5 round decision going his way imo. Also, Herb Dean is the ref and he recently got loads of stick for allowing a fight to go about 20 punches too long without stopping it. He also controversially stopped McG's fight against Mendes a little early imo with only 3 seconds of the round left, when Mendes was causing Conor a lot of trouble otherwise. Khabib's fighting style and personality are probably the least conducive to selling fights. His fights are ugly and boring and he has a boring personality. I don't think all of that is irrelevant here.

Khabib is used to dominating and having the centre of the ring, however mcgregor will take the centre and pressure khabib. With his back to the cage, Khabib will panic and lung forward, onto punches. You need to stop comparing the 26 fights he's had so far to this one, this is completely different snd tonight you will see why

mendes fight wasn't stopped early. conor had a blown out knee for that fight and looked terrible making the weight. it's hard to take much from that fight. mendes is much better at takedowns than khabib in the sense that he doesn't need to chain wrestle to get the td he's a lot more explosive. khabib single's and doubles are not on the same level but he gets most of his TD's from the clinch with bodylocks. I'd be kinda surprised if it goes to a decision but there's a lot of variables here and most ppl are assuming the same couple of outcomes.

khabib does like to dominate the centre of the ring and dictate the pace, but against iaquinta who was the best boxer he's fought he was a lot more cautious early, giving ground and was definitely wary of iaquintas power. compare that to barboza who is primarily a kicker he just pushed him back the whole fight making it a lot harder for edson to use his kicks effectively while draining his cardio at the same time.

Didn't mention 26 fights, only his 10 UFC fights, and haven't compared any. I compared McG's Mendes fight, where he got taken down with ease repeatedly by a smaller, weaker guy than Khabib and Mendes wasn't fully fit either. In fairness Razz you are right about McG's knee and I think he was almost willing to be taken down in that fight because his knee was popping out in sparring but that doesn't mean he is going to stop Khabib taking him down if he gets in close. He needs to stop him getting in close. If he gets in close I think he will almost certainly get him down and dominate him.

Conor can finish the fight early and dominate the early exchanges as we know he likes to do but I don't think you should expect that to happen against a bigger guy at a weight class up where he has been out of the octagon for 2 years, or for it to decide the whole fight, or that Khabib will lunge onto punches when he knows that that is the last thing he should do after Aldo or that Khabib will not get the fight to ground at some stage.  The whole course of the fight could change from one takedown or one good strike from Conor. Don't think Conor will want to get Khabib close to the cage either unless he's already rocked him and stepping in to try finish it. He's setting a trap for himself there.

You're very quick to judge him. Grin  His smack talk has made him the biggest ever star in MMA.

Every time Conor fights people give out about his carry on. He's selling his fight and trying to get into the other guy's head and it works for him and makes the other guy a load of money too. Shouldn't read any more into it than that.
