VOLCAN SURPRISE

Ex French who had 5 runs in his juvenile career over here, being sent off favourite 4 times and only 5/1 on the other start. As he failed to get his head in front he has left doubts about his ability to get home first and I would like to see him do it before supporting him. At circa 5/1 here on his reappearance under top weight, he makes no betting appeal.

SYNTHE DAVIS

As above, ex French but now a 7yo. All three wins on good ground, [has experienced heavy and v.soft but has been mainly campaigned on good ground) but yet to win at 2 miles, in fact rarely tried at it latterly. Up 2lbs for lto 2nd at Huntindon. The niggles on ground, trip and that OR rise makes the circa 9/2 unappealing.

DORMOUSE

Ridden by the Finnish jockey A P McCoy and probably favourite, currently circa 10/3. Trip ✔, ground ✔,  highest OR ever at 115 ✘. Most probably winner says market but no one got rich backing favs including TSD!

MANSHOOR

Positive as in winner 1to last term and in the jockey booking of M G Nolan + CD winner. However showed little on subsequent 2 runs and the P 1’s applied here. Flat mark has been in the descent lately too.

RAY DIAMOND

Latterly chasing has been his game, but PU on latest attempt at that. No show off OR45 flat three starts back and now hurdles retried off a highish looking OR112.

SEEDSMAN

Unproven on the ground after only 2 runs in NHF and a further two in Novice Hurdles. Making his handicap debut under OR108 today and at least at 5yo offers some potential. Svelte like Charlie Egerton with the STD make a good combination to note here.

YA HAFED

Reasonable return to hurdling 22 days ago when 2nd at Plumpton trying to give the winner 24lbs. Only a 4yo with limited hurdling experience [5 runs], has run some decent performances from the front before fading so the drop to the basic 2 mile here and a weight towards the lower end of the handicap should suit. Ok on Soft, Heavy unknown. Lesser known fact, Sheena is a punk rocker!

LINDSAYS DREAM

Twice a winner in early 2012 and returned from summer break with a UR and a 3rd. The latter was in the flat boys NH race and under 11st 4lbs so todays 10st 5lb will be a benefit in the heavy ground. The first three were clear that day under todays C+D.
Allowing for Gemmas 5lbs claim equates to a OR of 98 only 3 above last winning mark for a mare with scope for a bit of improve. Fingers crossed that the soft ground form can translate to the heavy here.

GAELIC SILVER

ex French, two runs here shown little so far. Positive can only be taken from yard which will let us know via the market if improvement is expected here. [Stop press- 42.0 into 8.2 suggest they do expect]

LILAC BELLE

Dual Fakenham seller winner but latterly a long way behind todays favourite Dormouse lto, however does get a circa stone pull in the weights to make things closer here and pitched on the bottom rung off 10st in the conditions a plus!

CONCLUSION

Although an open race in betting terms with 4/1 the field now being hollowed out, it is against my religion to back favourites and to this end the race lends itself to apply the CAULK system [frame filler] and have a small poke at Gemma on Lindsays Dream circa 10.0 on here currently.
