Not interested in politics or elections to be honest , but just happened to turn on Pat Kenny and the six candidates, and to be honest I’m finding it very interesting. Empty homes costing €1.5m+ in Tipp is symptomatic of what we are facing in years to come. Renovating, yes renovating, corpo flats in Dublin is costing €500,000 a unit if press reports are accurate. People refuse "free" homes for the flimsiest of reasons so the current shortage of housing will be eventually solved by the taxpayer picking up the tab for over-sized and over-priced homes for as, Leo, might wish to say, those who demand everything and pay for nothing. We have lost the ability to impose solutions thanks to a system that is so full of hypocrisy it only gets an airing when a non-entity like Casey decides to ruffle a few feathers.

Casey is hardly a non entity , maybe you are a high achiever in life , and consider him one , but to me and most mere mortals , he’s certainly no non entity. Casey will win the poll in the local ballot, the remarkable aspect is that no local is likely to have met Casey and he certainly never canvassed in the area either. I hope he gets across the line for your bets, it would be the Irish political moment of all time were he to win.

I don't see this having a massive impact on other elections really, unless someone sets up a purely anti-traveler party. Other than that I feel that public opinion is quite in line with what the media wants it to be.

Ha ha. God forbid. I was trying to say that the Steens and Co would be part of this. They would bring a certain cohort with them. Rural Ireland, older, maybe less educated though not entirely. FG and FF would have a fair few in their ranks that would fit in as too would some well known Independents with a national profile. Most political parties are anyway a broad range. I can see an articulate conservative appearing in the next 2/3 years. Yes, you need a 'personality'. No bull**** delivery and giving it back in spades to the media. They will tap into the ordinary worker's malaise with all things around them. The inability of young people to buy a house on average incomes, the growing realisation of people in their 50 and 60s who are not prepared at all for retirement. I could go on. Basically the increasing shift between the haves and the have nots.
