Hard not to see it as a diversionary tactic from the Park to take our minds off the carelessness, myopia, absentmindedness, amnesia and vindictiveness being aired daily in Dublin Castle by those we rely on to keep the peace and uphold standards of integrity expected of any police force.

Oh! Dessie Fox was a bookie.

Lets hope they can bring those involved to justice .  Dessies murder had nothing to do with the "situation" north or south of the border , it was just an opportunity to steal from one of the nicest bookies around at that time . No doubt cloaked in claims of supporting some cause or other .

Another northern bookie and betting ring leader , Sean Graham , had suffered an attempt to rob him in his car some years earlier ( during the Galway festival as I recall ) , but he thwarted the attempt .

The betting ring has missed those two in particular over the years since as both were only in their forties when they died .

Have heard others mention that too regarding diversionary tactics. Poor Trevor Dealys family were put through the ringer searching that "Field"

the reason I was asking was I heard a story a while back that a bookie owed people money years ago and wouldnt pay and eventually people caught up with him and he was done, maybe this is a different case altogether

Like every state organ that escaped decades of oversight, supervision and accountability the culture within the top echelons of the force is rotten to the core.

Released without charge after their mouthpiece in RTE relayed that the arrests a few days ago had been "significant".
