M.V. was brilliant as is always recognised yet was enigmatic and not exactly "of the people".
A biography detailing his gambling, relationships with Sangster, Magnier and Niarchos would be a tale worth telling. Anything I have ever read was soft-focus and "authorised"; interesting and informative in their own way but falling well short of true insight into a life that broke the mould.
