I'm usually not a fan of suing people or the state either but in this case wildman, I think McCabe is entitled to every penny he will get. Regardless of whether there is any truth behind what is being said about him which is highly doubtful, the allegations made against him should have been put to him in order for him to have a chance to respond and prove his innocence. The way in which the Guards, Tusla and the state went about in a concerted whispering campaign alleging that he was a paedophile was scandalous and there is no defence for it. This has been corroborated by the former spokesperson for the Guards and he has also alleged that the Garda Commissioner was aware of it. The very fact alone that senior Gardai engaged in a concerted whispering campaign against a citizen of the state is enough alone to call for resignations and compensation as this is the body which is supposed to be responsible for justice and law enforcement.

A tribunal is just another payday for the residents of the 4 courts. It epitomizes the problem with the Public service.....incompetence and potential criminality is not punished. Wildman is correct on one thing. There is some emotive guff surrounding the McCabes. A properly run state should have proper legal routes for cases like this. The McCabes should have no input into how this investigation is run. RTE as usual are licking the McCabes rear end in order to cover their own actions. Only in RTE could you have the main presenter of the state broadcasters current affairs flagship as brother of the oppositions Justice spokesman PS: In relation to suing the state. There are cases where suing is justified (Eg where incompetence and/or worker fatigue causes long term injury in hospitals etc...) The issue of compensation is caused by successive governments who see dishing out tax payers money as a way of quickly closing cases. The redress schemes were perfect examples of these. |

These civil servants should be held accountable for the money they lose the state when their departments/ agencies are sued and have to payout compensation. They don't care if the state has to payout millions as it makes no difference to their take home pay. They should have to pay for their actions if their incompetence leads to compensation payouts.

Just join the public sector.
It's far from the top and one needs a distinct lack of ambition but hey there aren't any standards to be reached or repercussions for incompetency and the private sector will subsidise you. |

You only have to remind yourself of the hip hips and Lowery shoulder high every few years despite his past. Even the young principled ones change tack when promoted to office. Joan burton sickened my stomach a couple of weeks ago bemoaning the lack of money for some cause i cant remember. It was probably a just cause but did she not remember her own justifications for cuts left right and centre when she held power. How can she have any credibility. |

The private sector is wrecked beyond belief anyway Dj, all baloney about how things have been getting a lot better, no,they want to be employed,cost too much and killing themselves on their own with expenses either through employees,rates rents or whatever, big time multi national clongomerates or public sector that's it,you want nearly to be a lottery ticket winner in any other sphere.

Wildman has let a number of things slip about him down through the years that have enabled us to get a good profile of the character that posts on here. He is an ex garda, a low level bruiser in the Kildare area, he is the son of a high level garda and followed daddy's foot steps into the force. He is a person who belives that corruption should be a perk of the job in the force and this has helped them become big famrers, name likley to be O'Duffy, votes FG and has never holidayed in Spain post 1975.
