The indo/sindo's writing/editing standards are in terminal decline and have been exacerbated by their online content which consistently features twitter feeds.
I know Kimmage splits opinions on here as some feel his articles are all about emotionalism and one could definitely argue that he focus too much on performance enhancing supplements/chemical enhancements.
I think he always finds an interesting viewpoint and invariably focuses on the person behind the journey. I wouldn't have any interest in MMA but enjoyed still enjoyed reading about Mcgregor's coach. I thought his article with McCarron this week was one his poorer ones as he didn't really challenge him and just relayed the narrative of the book.
Two weeks ago he wrote a piece about an interview with O'Driscoll which focused on the use of pain killers etc in rugby. It garnered little public attention but a week later a retraction was published after Penguin publishers insisted on it due to a legal agreement. There was definitely a lot more to the O'Driscoll/Kimmage split than a promised Sunday interview.
Whatever your views on Kimmage and his Sindo colleague/pal Brolly it's refreshing to still have some non-politically correct journalists around
Not a Kimmage interview but one of the most riveting interviews you will hear with his nemesis.
The Independent seem to describe everything in the news section with the adjective 'shocking' while in the Sports section, every 'gesture' made by a sportsman is 'classy'.
I've no interest in the pursuit of dopers, either.
I've said on this that I'm a Kimmage fan for much the same reasons as you have, DJ. I find him to be original & I like his blunt style.
You could be right re there being more to the Kimmage split from O'Driscoll. He has alluded to the fact he is quite hard up due to the Court Cases and his 18 months odd unemployed.
He is very principled, but it would likely have taken more than what was described as the reason.

He gave Enda Mcnulty a justified going over this week. I used to think Brolly in the same context as Dunphy/Giles/Hook ie controversial for the sake of garnering attention. No doubt he's a massive sh1t stirrer but has some substance.
How are you Neil D? I see you think Noel Meade has a decent string this year. Do you not think he'll be the same as every other recent year, fitter than everyone now and then lucky to reach double figures when it counts from February to start of May? He's ruined the best horse in the yard.

I get the sense that he will be out the door if he doesn't deliver for Gigginstown this season, hoping that will focus his mind. This is it. Can see Martin coming back into the fold at some stage soon and will be at someone's expense. I like a couple of his young horses like Le Martalin.
We talking Disko could be perceived as disconcerting how weak in the betting he was the last day when winning), maybe? or Road to Riches. apache gone as we well now. He has always had attrition rate issues.
I saw him interviewed in the summer the night Brian Cowan's horse won the Midlands national, was the happiest I had seen him in a long time. Just have a sense there is one last kick in him.
Trying to think but one of his beat one of Elliots (Sharkey colours I think) in a Bumper a few weeks ago, 2 niceish horses, both looked fancied, i took a bit from that, too.
I have a bit of a soft spot for Noel, DJ!I get the sense that he will be out the door if he doesn't deliver for Gigginstown this season, hoping that will focus his mind. This is it. Can see Martin coming back into the fold at some stage soon and will
RTR was the ruined one I was referring to Neil D. I'd imagine it will be the same story for Meade...another 5 weeks max left in his season.Wonky would want to be careful with the yankee doodle racing or he could find himself in a short feature filmht
From my fairly casual observation of Kimmage ( and of the Irish press in which he operates ) it seems to me that he is usually close to the mark . I am waiting for some form of expose regarding rugby medical procedures , that might tie in with some of above posting . The process of recovery from injury or from a series of physically exhausting matches week after week must be a concern .
In professional spot nowadays the almighty dollar rules the roost . So if a club spends zillions on acquiring ( or keeping) a player , there has to be a fiscal return on that "investment" , come hell or high water . And the clubs pay the medics . Dangerous recipe .

Two men helped him in his career and his personal life and he was incredibly disloyal to both.
Stephen Roche helped him in so many ways yet was hounded by him. Despite all this Roche forgave him and offered him the hand of friendship,he was told to eff off.
One thing about sports journalists they all have the same views. All hate Trump, all hate Pat Hickey, all hate Michelle De Briun, all hate South Africa and have tales of their brave fight against those terrifying people. All sneer at Brexiteers and before that sneered at England.

Dear oh dear, must Trump and Brexit etc. be drawn into every topic
What you need Borneo... is a good ride.....all this angst would come draining out of every pore and you would lean back, post coitus, and for one brief moment, all would be well with the world. All the ghosts and demons that dominate your every thinking moment would recede into the background.
Alternatively, if there are plumbing issues...have you considered marijuana? Just to get yourself out of yourself?

Look I like politics,I watch American TV into the small hours for the election coverage,I don't watch Fox. I watch Rachel Maddow ( absolutely brilliant ) and Morning Joe religiously.
Each to his own.

He laughs: "I was talking to a guy the other day who had been to a graveyard and noticed this headstone. It was marked with the day the person was born, the day he died, and 'Programme Completed.' And that will be me. Until the day I go to the grave I will be battling this disease."
I hate self-help stuff normally but I love that line from McCarron
