Hickey, famously saw off Richard Burrows some years ago and "official Ireland" failed to disrupt the cartel. Will this be a bloody nose for Shane Ross or will Hickey get his come-uppance?
Or...will Hickey decide now is the time to pass the gilded baton to everyone's favourite sports administrator, John Delaney?
Not many of the 800 ticket buyers whose prized possessions were seized in Brazil are bleating in public.

Newstalk reporting that Pat Hickey may have been arrested in Rio.
Fair play to the Brazilians. It's unreal how after 10 days nobody has come out and said why or how these companies were contracted or what they are getting paid for. If its as simple as handing out tickets and they'd nobody to hand them out which seems to be what they're saying, it really doesn't make sense.
I believe Hickey doesn't take a salary, you'd have to wonder if he's getting it some other way.

Another thing about the Brazilians is absolutely nothing seems to be leaked, can you imagine the exclusives we'd be seeing every morning in the papers had these arrests taken place here.
It makes you wonder why those who were supposed to get these tickets haven't come looking for them...Now if I had spent a fortune getting these tickets brought over by courier and they hadn't arrived I'd want to know why. Yet not a peep out of anyone , highly suspect imo...
Looking at the crowds in most of the events they would have been left with a lot tickets,
I fervently hope the Brazilizn police have enough to give this odious character a good comeuppance.
Jim McDaid neutered the OCI some years ago when he diverted sports funding away from the OCI to the Sports Council and this was, among many other things, a cause of very bad blood between him and Hickey. Hickey also called Bernard Allen "der fuhrer" in another political row.
The Sports Council today fund the OCI for about one-third of its Revenue - about €400k annually - but it would survive without it if it was forced to. As Hickey probably said to Shane Ross: my constituency is different to yours.
One surprising fact I learned today is that Hickey receives an annual honorarium of €60,000 from the OCI.

Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) President Pat Hickey has dismissed claims made by Brazilian football legend Romário that he has ensured the contract for ticket sales for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Ireland will go to a firm that employs his son, Stephen Hickey.
Romário, the 1994 FIFA World Cup winner who is now a politician in Brazil, claimed Hickey (pictured top) was abusing his position on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for Rio 2016 by looking to secure the deal.
The former Barcelona striker claimed that Hickey was helping to facilitate the deal due to his close friendship with Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman, of whom Romário is also a vocal critic.
"I learnt from reliable sources that his (Hickey's) son works for a subsidiary of the firm which won, thanks to Hickey, the right to sell tickets for the 2016 Olympics," said Romário.
"Everybody knows my determination to ensure that all citizens have access to 2014 World Cup games and to the 2016 Olympics and that is why I am worried.
"Here in Brazil, will tickets for the Games be luxurious goods so the middle class and the poor can only attend on TV?"
But Hickey, who was recently elected onto the powerful IOC Executive Board, has moved to defuse the issue, revealing that the Authorised Ticket Reseller for Rio 2016 has not yet been appointed.
"Regarding Olympic tickets, the following is to fully clarify the situation," said Hickey in a statement.
"Rio 2016 has confirmed it will decide in late 2013 with each National Olympic Committee and its Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) how to ensure efficient ticket sales abroad.
"Therefore, a ticket strategy for Rio is not in place yet and all comments are purely speculative."
He continues: "I am only one member of the 17-strong International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission for the Rio 2016 Games, and I have no functional, contractual or administrative relationship with Rio 2016.
"I will be visiting Rio solely in my role as a Commission member."
The accusations come after Stephen Hickey, who works for THG Sports, the sports hospitality division of the Marcus Evans Group, worked on London 2012.
"Ireland's approved ATR for London was appointed with the full approval of the Executive Committee of the Olympic Council of Ireland," continued Hickey.
"In addition, I wish to state very clearly that the OCI is not under and has never been under investigation at any level concerning ticketing issues for the London Games.
"The Irish Hospitality House in London was a commercial project of the Authorised Ticket Reseller and approved by the Executive Committee of the OCI.
"The promoters were appointed six months before they head hunted Stephen Hickey from his management position at the O2 Arena, Canary Wharf, London.
"Stephen is an event management professional who has worked in London for fifteen years, and will leave his position when his contract is completed at the end of this year.
"His appointment was approved by the Executive Committee of the OCI and Stephan had no involvement whatsoever with ticketing."
Hickey was also backed by Rio 2016.
"We are still in the initial phase of drawing up an operational ticket sale plan," said a Rio 2016 statement.
"Rio 2016 will in late 2013 call for bids to choose the firm which will provide the ticket sale system.
"For international sales, Rio 2016 will decide with each National Olympic Committee and its authorised dealer how to ensure efficient ticket sales abroad."

The more you see and hear about these organisations , the less you trust many of those involved . Guess they are all frustrated soccer agents , looking for situations to exploit . Unfortunately at the heels of the hunt the public get ripped off one way or another .
Just heard the guy who WON Conlons fight yesterday is so badly hurt he cant fight his next match , so a walker over for someone , shocking stuff , hopefully those socalled judges NEVER get to judge another fight....
The Irish judge involved in the heavyweight fight should be kicked out of every boxing club here.

Everyday there seems to be a different lad interviewed by RTE, I wonder how many went and did they all fly 1st class with their wives and sons and are they all staying in 5* hotels like Hickey. I'd say a first class ticket during the olympics would be close to 10 grand never mind the hotel + expenses. I think the athletes get about 40grand for the year. Something wrong somewhere.
OCI members get a 900 euro per diem while in Rio. this is despite the fact that all their travel and meals are paid for. I wonder if Hickey will still get that while staying as a guest of the Brazilian people.
I'm just amazed this has gone on for so long. Think we first started hearing noises about Hickey back in the late 90s which must have been why there was a concerted effort to then see him ousted. Since then he has strengthened his position within the IOC 'family'. Guess you can only ride your luck for so long. Not as cute as you'd imagine and it looks like the Brazilians have had him in their sights for some time. We also now live in a time of increased scrutiny for sports administrators looking at FIFA and the IOC isn't also without blemish. Still though, have they real evidence that can stick or just the verbal allegations of someone in custody. At best, he'll quietly step down if the charges don't stick.
Thought that was only temporary over this issue. If there is 'no case proven' would he feel justified to remain?

Ross will have received the education and battering of his short political career in the past 10 days. far easier to dish it out when jousting with the pen. He seemed utterly unprepared for Hickey's ambush and, in a display of being completely on top of his brief, twice congratulated Thomas Barry on his return from Zika land. #betterdaysahead
