OK the plan was to follow Frankie but surely when that far back he should have abandoned it earlier.
When he did realise he was too far back he panicked and not wanting a repeat of the previous day came wide this time.
The horse responded but either had nothing left after the earlier effort or is a bit of a dog and wouldn't go past.
I feel it was more the former.
I'm not sure what's happened Moore as I've often stated what made him stand out was his ability to keep it simple and always have his horse in the right place a few furlongs out and could go on to win if good enough.
He seems to find himself in some very bad positions nowadays.
Are the long tactical talks bamboozleing him ?
I just don't get yesterday's ride tbh.OK the plan was to follow Frankie but surely when that far back he should have abandoned it earlier. When he did realise he was too far back he panicked and not wanting a repeat of the previous day came wide this
Joseph O Brien would be in the halfpenny place compared to Ryan Moore. I'd say Tabor couldn't care if he ever laid an eye on Joseph , not to mind miss him. Epsom is a khazi where you are going to need some luck in almost every race you ride in, certainly luck plays a bigger part there than say Ascot Newbury, them kind of tracks. Minding met a lot of interference but was still good enough to overcome it, and in the Derby Moores horse had every chance, he simply wasn't good enough. If they meet in the curragh harzand will beat him again.

After El Gran Señor beat Secreto Vincent and the lads were shellshocked,Lester Piggott walked by and mumbled in his own monosyllabic way " do you miss me "
Moore is a good rider but he makes a fair amount of mistakes. Lester was a great rider,he would never have ridden Epsom like that.
Pat Smullen is a better rider that Ryan Moore,he's the best around.

That's onlt a typo Slickster, the two horses are the wrong way around, it is clear by the rest of the sentence as Piggott was after splitting from O Brien /Sangster, i remember the race well and came out of Curtins(?) betting shop (Washington st/South Main St junction.) shellshocked myself. and not a bob after it. I never blamed Pat Eddery for it. I'd be more inclined rather than blaming Moore(not great all the same and likely Joe would have done better), to question Aidens tactics,Port Douglas a good horse in his own right was the sacrifical lamb, the baton was passed over to Idaho and he done the damage imo,he quickened and stretched the field and did it too well. All the same a worthy winner and Pat Smullen gets his just reward for his unequalled jockeyship.

Can't be many trainers not at the races to saddle their first runner... Joseph Patrick O'Brien won't be at Listowel (or Gowran) as he's at the Goffs Sales.....
A sure sign...to have a double at least!

It was a case of first runner, first winner in the opener at Gowran, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, as Justice Frederick got Joseph Patrick O'Brien off the mark in the training ranks.
The money came for his Dad's trained newcomer Leo Minor, who opened at 9/4 before being backed into 6/5 favouritism. Settled behind the leaders by Donnacha O'Brien, the Maxwell Morris owned victor came with his challenge on the outer over two furlongs from home. Leo Minor tried the reel in the winner inside the final furlong, but he ultimately had to settle for second under Seamie Heffernan. Anne-Marie O'Brien added: "The plan is to go for the Chesham at Royal Ascot." Amazingly Aidan O'Brien trained his first winner almost twenty-three years ago to the day, with Wandering Thoughts at Tralee on June 6th 1993.

My advice to J O'B would be to consult daily the Horse Racing and Irish Sports forums. There he will find an array of experts who can provide him with valuable insights into the finer points of training gleaned from many decades of couch-based observation and unprofitable punting. As an added bonus he will learn about what constitutes superior jockeyship so that he can pass it on to his riders. Should young Joseph opt to follow this path his rise to the top will be inexorable. Go Joe.

The previous two posts by Vubiant and Gant are basically a crock of Shiite . Joseph O Brien is in a privileged position by virtue of the fact that he's been taught first hand by a maestro and also has the financial backing to get him up and running . Seems a nice level headed young guy who is destined to go to the top , and the fact that he is viceless , well that's going to be of major benefit to him as it is to all top sports people. There are plenty of good posters on here, people that know a hell of a lot more than most of these so called racing insiders who supposedly poke fun at the forum . Half the journalists on the racing post have been on here posting their tuppence worth in an attempt to get notice , some maybe even successfully as they now write for the paper. These racing experts that poke fun at people who post on here will continuously harp on with the " how many winners have you ridden / trained " bawlixx . There may be what the above two knobbs consider nomarks posting on here , but that doesn't mean that they don't know what they are talking about . Racing is littered with bull****s and bluffers and downright conmen, some are journalists , bloodstock agents and trainers. Give me a few of the posters on here any day of the week over just a few of the so called racing experts . To mention a few of the people I am talking about The bloodstock agent who buys for the biggest ape in the game The bloodstock urchin who buys for some of the bigger outfits in Britain The big tall trainer who spends more time looking into a glass The big stupid oaf trainer who used be a horsebox driver who has reinvented himself as a trainer The trainer who puts a tube of gel in his hair daily, shame he doesn't give his horses as much attention The journalist who used to post on here who wouldn't know his Harris from a hole in the ground They are just some of the so called racing experts who shouldn't be poking fun at anything .

Some are very knowledgeable and impart their views coherently .
Some have only a smattering of knowledge , but put up views and selections .
Some are ramping I suspect .
Some I suspect have bookmaking connections .
Then we have the snipers and begrudgers .
If we could eliminate the latter group the forum would be a healthier place . They have driven away some of the better posters over the years .
Those who go racing regularly generally have their ear to the ground , those of us who have given that up for a variety of reasons no longer hear the whispers that used to be part of punting life . Likewise those of us who spent decades in / around bookies premises no longer frequent those establishments , and information / views come now from different sources ( not necessarily as good as previous ).
The one thing that has not changed in my experience is the age old adage "follow the money" . In the old days it was occasionally "chalk" , but over the last 10-15 years that has changed , and if you can identify the genuine "triers" ( with a semblance of ability / form / decent trainers/ decent jockeys / suitable going etc ) that's where the consistent winners are . Horses are not machines though , there will be disappointments as well as triumphs .

Whether insiders want the game all to themselves or not, they might well get it as I can't see where the next generation of Racing punters is coming from.
Careful what you wish for, Soon enough there may not be any opinions out there to deride. Don't let attendances at the likes of Galway fool anyone. People are just there on the piss. The 7 or 8 thousand at Leopardstown in 2009 who went to see the greatest horse this country ever produced is the best barometer.
Most of the "Racing People" would be on their arse as well only for the subsidy. That isn't being snide, just a fact; and nothing lasts forever.

I share your concern regarding where the next generation of racing punters is to come from , neill d . Most of the regular racegoers I used to meet at the races were also regulars in the bookies shops, there are virtually no younger people in bookies shops these days , except on Saturdays , betting on soccer mainly .
Was around a few bookies shops yesterday evening , last 2 I visited had one staff member only ( female) and to effect entry I had to pass scrutiny via push button door entry . I was the only customer in most of the shops I visited . Even the FOBT's were vacant .
