There was every kind of cap on,i looked at the replay a few times and still not sure i,ve the right ones.
I had to put my faith with Dessie.
Given there was a fair gamble on the winner surely to some extent would a conflict of interest comes into play?
Still and all i'd be slow to say they weren't all off watching it though, most of his other runners are up in the mid 130's and doubt they have anything more than that.(slight question mark with Champagne AT Tara and Princely Conn).

Agree though to have 9 runners in the same race as an owner is saying something is very wrong somewhere.

Why does it not look good ?  If ANY owner pays for the horse , pays the training fees , pays the jockey , pays the trainer etc , they are entitled to run .

If JP had only one runner in this race , presumably wearing the first colours ( winner as it happens) , then eight other horses , trainers , jockeys etc would not have a pay day .

Those who complain about multiple entries by owners / stables might look at the bigger picture .  Horse racing for some is a sport , betting etc is a side issue to them .  Anyone who thinks JP is in horse racing for the money needs to take a long look at themselves . Apart from anything else , who is going to lay him at the level you would need to be betting to turn a regular drip( flood more likely) loss into a profit ?

Kelly again you surprise me , were would he get on  you ask , plenty of places , London is one ,he has several comm agents like a lot of big time punters , how do you think Tabor and co get their money on , hardly with him going from shop to shop .

London implies the big five or whatever they have melted down to .  I cant buy into the concept that some bookies in London will lay big bets unless they show a profit at the end of the day . English bookies aren't renowned for shipping regular big losses .

Occasionally some of the bigger owners might find the market "against " them , with available punting opportunity allowing them to be accomodated .  The idea that on a daily basis they can bet willy nilly at  a level foreign to the average punter would not fit in my experience .

MVOB encountered problems in "getting on" , employed various friends to strike bets , establishment insiders probably .  However the bean counters run bookies nowadays , with the aid of sophisticated computing back up .  Any consistent winner soon gets stopped in his tracks or marginalised . Its all about economics at the end of the day , business it is termed euphemistically  , bookmaking .

JP McManus has made the vast majority of his wealth from currency trading rather than conventional betting.

At this stage I think he'd get far more pleasure out of seeing Limerick senior hurlers (to whom he has given a lot of financial support), winning an All Ireland title than any big race victory from one of his horses.

True , reb .  Mind you initially he was very good at the bookmaking ( and punting) business , fair play to him , and if you backed a winner with him there was no begrudgery .
