Fianna Fáil are surging in the country,I think they will get upwards of 40 seats.
Its odds on a FF/ FG coalition, there will be a demand for it but I don't think those infamous grass roots will stand for it.
Micheal Martin has ruled it out so would have to resign,Eamon Cuiv ( as he now is ) would also resign, the party would split.

Lay the FF/FG coalition.

You were certainly right about the FF surge Wildman. Are you still confident about the second part?
Report mincer11 February 28, 2016 10:56 AM GMT
FF/FG is a certainty ,an absolute stonewall. There isnt a cigarette paper between their policies either, so whats the big deal.
Report winsamsoon February 28, 2016 11:18 AM GMT
If they go together,  SF will be the big winners next time. Neither of them want that. Also FF are way to smart for FG, they'd pull the rug out and  hang Enda out to dry,  not that he needs much help. I think FF/SF with a few others is still a possibility or else we'll go again in a few months.

Nobody wants to give them horrible shinners a look in, they will never be in power at any stage.
Report wildmanfromborneo February 28, 2016 7:58 PM GMT
Its precisely because there is no difference in their policies that they can't coalesce.

I think they will support a minority Fine Gael government and bide their time.
When the conditions are right they will vote the government down precipitating a General Election.
Report mincer11 February 28, 2016 8:39 PM GMT
You can be absolutely sure they will form a government between them, anybody who thinks otherwise hasn't an iota.
Nobody wants uncertainty and an other general election, they will form a government but Fine Gael will turf out that imbecile Kenny.
Huge celebrations in Kerry tonight Dan, there will be a great night in Kilgarvan.

"I'd have my life on Barry Cowan getting more votes than Sean Fleming".

Wildman

I wouldn't ask you to sacrifice your life. If you could put a price on it, I will charge you a percentage to charity as a lesson in that you should not contradict people who are much better armed with information than you.
Report wildmanfromborneo February 28, 2016 9:15 PM GMT
Fair play Keen Leader you got that one right mind you by a short head.
You also correctly nominated Sean Fleming as a top five vote getter someone who would have been a big price for that

I underestimated Barry Cowens running mate.
I'm a bit downhearted over my own constituency.
I gave Kate Bopp my number one,she could only muster 500 votes.
My main hope was John Leahy and he missed out by 150 votes,he got a poor enough transfer from our Kilbarron publican.

Mincer for betting purposes a minority Fine Gael government backed by Fianna Fáil would not constitute a coalition.

I think Winsam has an excellent point. A FF/FG would see SF leading the opposition. I'd imagine that this would be a nightmare scenario for both FF & FG. The fear being that it could make SF 'respectable' to the electorate.

1,300 is more than a short head.

fleming was the number 2 vote getter for ff after billy Kelleher.

I think the top 5 throughout the country were...1..healy rae, 2..donnelly, 3..kelliher, 4..naughten, and 5..fleming.

Lowry was 1/25 to be the biggest vote getter, I think he may have come in 7th or 8th.

my read on the figures is that Dorgan/martin will decide on a sit back mini Tallaght strategy and prepare the groundwork for another election inside 12 months as I think they believe they could hit 60 plus in such a scenario, spike sf and dilute fg further. fg will have heavy pressure between likely leadership change and trying to  fire fight on its own and will not have an eye on another election, whereas ff will totally focus on that next election and simply pull the plug at an opportune time of their choosing.

Nobody wants to give them horrible shinners a look in, they will never be in power at any stage.

Majority government will never happen in Ireland unless FF and FG merge officially. Even then it would be doubtful.
SF will never be in a majority sole government and the rest of the Left is such an absolute joke of a rag tag bunch that they would need Lab, FG or FF to even get any part in a government.

Add in the fact that to a massive % of the country, they are toxic and I cant help but think their overall potential is being over played. FG and FFs fear of SF is making them bigger than they actually are.

O'Cuivs speech regarding agreement of financial bills was interesting. No shock to see SF and the left disregard them straight away....they themselves don't want power. They pander to the social welfare class

I agree totally, Sinn Fein are as big now as they ever will be, they are no threat to any of the bigger parties.
The PD's were a coming force one time too, where are they now ?

It took awhile but we finally made it.

Mincer who professes to have no interest in politics weighed in with these two statements
     " FF/FG is a certainty,an absolute stonewall "
" You can be absolutely sure they will form a government between them, anybody who thinks otherwise hasn't an iota "

But I knew my wager was safe when Rocketfingers made this contribution.
