Its almost as if he has become a recluse and his mind is over focussed on a single issue.  It is eating hm up.  Remedies would include therapy, hypnosis, or perhaps an excorcism.  Not that he will go down the round of seeking help for a mental illness because he doesn't believe they exist.

Sometimes you get the feeling you could contribute but its discussion by photographs and written reports.
