Tyto alba.

A most extraordinary race for the qualified riders maiden hurdle.

NORN IRON used his trusty formula to unearth a 33/1 winner.

Never saw two horses **** their jaw independently of each other.
The start is very close to the stables and Sizing Alberta was first to **** his jaw this was followed by A Toi Phil copying him and taking out the entirely innocent Paper Lantern who lost the guts of a furlong.

Paper Lantern and Sizing Alberta continued in hopeless pursuit, they both caught up with the field but Sizing Alberta quickly capitulated,Paper Lantern kept going and ran an extraordinary race,he eventually finished third behind For Freddie.

For Freddie is out of that lovely race mare Generosa owned by Timmy Hyde,I think Edmond Kent trains in his old stable.

Generosa won a famous long distance handicap hurdle in Cheltenham at big odds,it was famous for nearly killing Freddie Williams.
JP had a horse In it Shannon Gale, trained by Christy Roche and ridden by a young Fran Berry,Freddie bet him a hundred grand each way at 7 or 8/1,I think Freddie took a bit of a turn during the race.
Shannon Gale finished fourth yielding a loss of either 75 or a 100 grand to Freddie despite getting him beat.

I must say that it was an unusual chain of events, that Sizing Alberta is one of the biggest yokes in training. A long as it  has a hole in arse, he will never win any kind of a maiden hurdle or chase, in fact id be surprised if he ever won anything.
Paper Lantern  is a yak and he was murdered in that melee initially, now ok he set off about 10 or 12 lengths in front of Sizing but he finished up about 40 ahead of him.
Maybe im pocket talking but i thought it was a particularly poor effort in the saaddle from Mullins, i couldnt see the same thing happening Ruby Walsh.
Report CheltenhamRoar December 22, 2015 6:50 PM GMT
Agree with ye there mincer, he could have set off after them but couldn't bother his arse, he thinks he's above that sort of thing, ye could see him looking then just say to himself "fcuk that" the fact he got unseated in the first place was hilarious in itself.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 22, 2015 6:59 PM GMT
Is Paper Lantern a yak ?
I know when horses look unlucky they generally get beaten next timeout.

I accept the odds on shot unseated his rider but the form of some of the others wasn't that bad.
Presentingoscar had won his bumper,Lets High Five It had a sprinkling of form,On De Ball and Paper Lantern had both won their point to point.

I can't remember a horse losing that amount of ground and running so well.

I think Paper Lantern will have no problem winning a maiden hurdle.

Never a fan of Don Cossack

Best form is the Hennessey form so I would give a tentative vote for Smad Place 9/1 each way
Report CheltenhamRoar December 22, 2015 7:27 PM GMT
Agree norn some round of jumping he put in in the Hennessy, it was a joy to watch, has he got the class of the don and vautour though?
I think there a class apart myself, Cue Card couldn't win this in his prime hardly gonna be good enough now,Silviniaco was very disappointing lto I think he's had enough, the rest don't count, I think Vautour will have too much class for them, don't really understand why road to riches is 25/1 he won't be good enough to win but 25s is an insult.
1.Vautour
2.Don Cossack
3.Smad Place
Report Racingqueen December 22, 2015 9:04 PM GMT
Cossack is too short imho. When you look at his list of victims who hes beaten into 2nd, they include Texas Jack, Rocky Creek, Roi du Mee, Boston Bob, Loosen my Load and Wonderful Charm. They would triple figures in any King George.

I dont see any obvious excuse for his Ryanair defeat and I'm wary of taking Punchestown festival form at face .
Report CheltenhamRoar December 22, 2015 9:25 PM GMT
Agree rq, just too short for me, the value is most definitely road to riches, is he an intended runner?
Report pa lapsy December 22, 2015 9:50 PM GMT
Good Norn,thought you might have.
Policy before with Giggy was to keep RTR and Don apart,i don't know myself regarding plans but maybe RTR will defend the Lexus,i say hold off til tis confirmed as i would be surprised if it isn't Leopardstown, probably worth keeping an eye on Storm Eva with the Irish runners as well, don't know when they are supposed to travel over but it could be bumpy.
Hard race, doubt i'll have a bet on it,was impressed with Cue card last time but a likely different Vautour and hard to knock Don(accept the 2nds above),i couldn't have a strong opinion.
Report one last chance December 22, 2015 9:57 PM GMT
RTR Lexus and don will have to be on top form to beat him
Report callitasucit December 22, 2015 11:34 PM GMT
Ah Don certainly has an excuse for the Ryanair RQ.

He wasn't great at 6 out, then nodded on landing which caused him to lose track position just as AP was turning the screw in front. He was in the ideal spot before that. As the pace had just lifted it took time and considerable energy to get right back into contention two out. He was alongside John Spirit going into that, but was squeezed out and basically landed on top of the fence. By the time Cooper reorganised him, he was now 5 lengths behind JS. Given his momentum into that fence, it is fair to say he would now have been at least a length up on Johns Spirit by this stage. That's not only 6 lengths, but also the stuffing knocked out of him with the error.

All in all, he was certainly the best horse in the race, and defeat can be easily excused. And how people can use that run to say he doesn't act at Chelt is quite comical.

All that said, he is short enough at the moment for the KG. Coneygree coming out wont have helped his cause, though it will have decreased his price. Coney would have ensured a proper gallop, though I imagine Smad Place will now take up that role. Don jumps better off faster fractions, and certainly wouldn't want it to be a speed test.

If Ruby was desperate to lead, Vautour is obviously a faster horse, and could lead, but that would be folly as would stretch Vautours stamina. Smad Place jumping in the Hennessy was a joy to behold, so sitting behind him rather that eye ball him will be the plan.

Rubys interview after Ascot told a lot I thought. He may have expected better that day, but when the KG was mentioned the eyes lit up again. I know he really believes in this horse, and I still think he is the one to beat.

Yes, maybe it will be proved on Saturday that he is better left handed, but I don't think a relatively goodish ground 3 mile around Kempton will prove too far. There is nothing in this field that has the explosivity to do what he has done at the last two festivals.

Cue Card has long been one of my favourites. Having got word for him on debut, I had a small few quid on him in the Champion Bumper. His win in the Ryanair was an absolute sight, and his two wins this year suggest he may be better than ever. He looked to have Sil Conti cold in the KG two years ago, until something happened. It wasn't stamina, as he ran on again from the back of the last. His problems seem ironed out, and he now seems amenable to settling.

An absolute belter of a race. I still think the value lies with Vautour. The KG is still a speed test for stayers, and he could just be what Ruby thinks.....the next Kauto.

Bring it on!!

Nonsense kavvie (probably as you have a history of aftertiming too), whether he backed the horse or not on debut or in the Champion bumper should have zero bearing on his analysis of the King George about 6 or so years later, he said Cue Card has long been one of my favourites, could have left it there without putting in the winning bets.

And I am no bugrudger, what you win or lose has no bearing at all on my life, what I win or lose does. All I did was pointing out aftertiming winning bets I would say about 6 years on for what reason as there was no need. Callitasucit has since said he lost on the race not that it really matters as no idea why he posted about the bets in the first palce.

Personally cant see Vatour beaten.  Complete garbage being spouted by all about jumping right.  Loved his run in Ascot and there is no doubt about his stamina juding by the Ascot run.  Would love Ruby to smash out and make all.
