1.00 GUNNERY SERGEANT @4/1
at the prices im happy to side with meades punchestown bumper winner, I know the race was slowly run but he did it well.
2.45 SMASHING @9/4
I really like this one ..the weights favour him and the 3rd behind gilgamboa is fine form.
some decent horses on show tomorrow none better looking than supasundae,

My two bets as well tomorrow Tony, had a look at the videos of Smashing and think going r/handed suits him, down in grade jumps well, doubt he'll be 9/4 come post time ,I backed G/Sargent @ Punchestown and thought there was more to come. Being a p2p winner I thought he showed a lot of speed off a slow pace that day, as you cant be sure if they'll want the other lad even though he was impressive enough @ Fairyhouse the other day , Noel will have schooled his well as usual, and at that price he's worth a punt .,
Can't make my mind up between N/Emporer or Monksland although I am leaning towards Monk ,a good days racing to wet the appitite for Navan on Sunday.

I like Smashing myself lads but only 2.6 here, GUNNERY SERGEANT will have to be on the ball to beat American Tom but will have a bet if i can get 7/2 or better. ..im looking forward to seeing  Monksland i thought he ran Arctic fire close the last run. goodluck tomorrow.

Hey Tony your UK handicapper is an nawful man, how can he give Crown Threatre 5lb more? Got 3lb for 2nd last time, be some job for him to win off that though think he will travel well for a long way, does he not know he doesn't really want to win at all? On a nice hurdles mark all the same and they will probably be his next win/beaten a head.
Good but hard card at Gowran, probably leave it alone, had a lot of meas in Mydor last year, was out for a gallop last time and probably the same tommorrow(33/1), sure he has a plan for him down the line. GL.

Ah they just have a different ratings scale Pa.

Having 5lb more over there typically equates to a pound less in real terms.
By:

When: 20 Nov 15 23:55
What? You will have to explain that one a bit Callit, know they generally are around the 5lb higher mark over there but never realised it was a different scale, quite a silly thing to have different ones.
By:

Yeah is silly. Suppose its just like Fahrenheit and Celsius. The base level is different.

I remember Dec put fair bit of work into it couple of years back, as some Irish horses were being overpriced in English hcps because the perception was they were worse off. There was no exact number as far as I can recall, but the average was about 6/7lbs higher over there.

Take Sort it Out. A cracking second in the County, yet appeared to have raced off only 2 lb higher at Punch a month later. But in reality he was about 8lb higher. Obviously the second at Chelt would have incurred more than a 2lb rise.

Its not just Smith lobbing a few pound on because he's a pr1ck(thought he definitely is that!!)

Sound Callit,i know there was a bit of furore over it a few years ago and a lot was said against the Irish handicapper, thanks for tonights lesson.

One I be interested in at Gowran be Stone Hard.

Big fan of this lad. Found things happening a bit quick, on ground too quick in Chelt bumper, but can take high rank in novice hurdles this year before going on to serious things over fences.

May always need a bit of cut, and he will certainly get that tomorrow. Massive stride, and goes deceptively quick, hopefully he doesnt flop tomorrow.

The Irish and English handicap is the same. The Irish horses were dominating the English handicaps so now the handicapper adds what he likes to their Irish rating. You see some horses getting far more than 5 or 6 pounds. Horse of Robbie Hennessy got 12 pounds extra last week of my memory is correct. The flat horses don't seem to get much of a raise thought. There is no hard and fast rules
The standard of English horse in the lower grades is a joke though. There are horses running and winning in the north of England that wouldn't win a point to point never mind a track race over here.

That's just a myth BWS.

Continuing with Sort it Out form, take Stonebrook from that Punchestown race. He ran 13th of 22 there off 126, yet now has an English mark of 130. He got a 4lb rise for that? No. He was probably dropped a pound.

Its just a different scale. Years ago, we were taking advantage because of the different scale. There was uproar when this was corrected(at least attempted to be corrected). Obviously the ratings should be the exact same between both countries.

Truth is they are not. Hammersly Lake ran an excellent 6th in the Coral, certainly not a run which would see a drop in the hcp(he would have been evens fav off that mark in a run of the mill hcp off that run), yet he runs in Punchestown off 2lb lower.

So it works both ways, not just ours getting lumbered with extra. Best way to look at it is our zero is there 5.

As I said its not exact, as it is still left to 'Phils interpretation', but they are different scales, and one of ours running off 5lb higher over there is not a disadvantage.

What was the Hennessy horse?

Stone hard is a good horse callit but I would say it’s very much advantage Supersundae today all things considered. On the ground the trip will take getting but Henry’s charge might just have the class edge on seasonal debut.

Won’t be having a bet in Gowran but theres something to be learned for future reference in almost all the races,

We will never know, BUT would Cooper on Gunnery Sergeant have beaten Townend on American Tom ?
Just watched Gunnery's win in P/stown again and he's certainly speedy.

All the attention will be on VAUTOUR @2.05 in ASCOT BUT let's not forget Barry on Crown Theatre for Henry De Bromhead at 3.15

I understand that Easygold but the bigger picture is that it wrecks threads, cracking threads between the recent Chelt and the Fairyhouse to a point, peoples knowledge shone through and my view is we are lucky they are taking the time and trouble to write up.
