2.50 Rivage D'or looks a decent bet @ 10/1 if you can excuse his race at Punchestown.
4.00 Return Spring 8/1 - Course specialist.
Report TellTheKing November 13, 2015 11:00 AM GMT
Not too bets sticking out but a very interesting card.

Pipe's mare in the first is likely to need much further than the two miles to show her best. I liked her British debut a lot though and my reading of the race is that they believe she's so well in it'll be enough to overcome the trip.

Josie's Orders is going to be the next big banks specialist and carries a lot of stable confidence today. My only concern is the lack of a run around the course though it will obviously be well prepared. Won't back it at sub 4's but I do expect it to win.

Dollar And A Dream looks like a horse with a decent engine and is some what idle late in his races. A good gallop and stiff finish allowed it to scythe through the field in Galway. He's a horse that's certainly better suited to big field higher class races than the muddling affair in Listowel. He should continue to improve with racing and his current mark is very fair.

Probably the second most interesting runner in the card today after More of That is Champers On Ice. He is a proper galloping type. I don't expect him to beat Ferguson's today with that runners accumulated experience over hurdles. He does however hold the biggest future of the four runners in this field.
Report newapproach November 13, 2015 11:13 AM GMT
I'm looking forward to seeing might bite in the novice chase. He won very easily in his first novice hurdle and showed grit and determination to win his second novice hurdle. Henderson is downbeat about his chances in the paper today but I wouldn't worry about that as he is a naturally pessimistic character. I think he looks like a horse that will improve for a fence and hopefully can go far. Nicky said on ATR recently that he has 18 novice chasers this year rated over 140 over hurdles and if this one is running here, he must think he is going to be one of the better one's.

The negative's are that Henderson had a poor record last year with his chasers but he undoubtedly has much better ammunition this year. The breeders aren't gone on these scorpion horses either but hopefully this fella might prove them wrong. All in all, I think he is a bet @ 9/2.

More of that obviously the main danger but there must be serious question marks about his well being and the market is luke warm about his chances.

Not the easiest card today
Report callitasucit November 13, 2015 11:44 AM GMT
Really looking forward to the novice races.

Though Penglai Pavillion clearly has the best hurdle form in the book as it stands, I would be surprised if Champers on Ice doesn't prove better in time. And maybe today.

I wouldn't be sold on the form of PPs last win, nor do I believe it rubber stamps his stamina.

Champers is very exciting, and given the Pipes legacy at this meeting, I imagine he will be as ready as he can be for today.

Shantou is very highly thought of, and seems over priced because of his unfashionable connections. He should put the pace to the race, and it wont be a surprise if he stays there.

A lay of PP for me.

More of That simply looks too big. A novice chaser first time over fences is obviously not one to be too dogmatic about, but he was different gravy to these over hurdles, and AP has always said he screams chaser. Entered at Carlisle last Monday, one would imagine he is forward enough if they chose to tackle this first up.

They had been purring about him in Jackdaws since the breathing op, so hopefully he can return to his best.

Will wait til closer to race time for any bet here.

Think Emirates Comfort can get the day off to a good start in 12.55 Ling. Backed as if defeat was out of the question the last day, he fell out of stalls, and got a sleepy ride off Buick thereafter. Fair enough, he may have been compromised by the break, and had to sit and suffer, eventually compromised by a slow pace.

Doyle, far more tactically astute, now has the benefit of that run to guide him today, and I imagine he will jump and rubber. If he gets the fractions near right, I doubt they will lay a glove on him.

2.3 looks worth backing.

One horse to keep an eye on is Double W's in the 3:25 race. He is quite well in off his mark and I would make it a good thing to win handicap races up the North. The obvious negative is that it's making it's handicap debut around Cheltenham after only two spins over hurdles. It can be a keen going sort and was in front way too soon the last day. Sitting in off a good pace will see it to best effect.

I imagine Jefferson saw the horses mark and decided to have a tilt at a high profile meeting in an attempt to take advantage of it. At the very least, the horse will learn a lot more about racing today. I expect it's handicap inexperience to find it out today before returning to calmer waters next time out where it could be a penalty kick off it's rating.

Jesus I don't know about that Emirates Comfort Callit. Looked like a right hound the last day. Went looking for it's mother up the straight the last day and barely closed an inch behind another screwy type. Has the headgear on today which might help and another crap race. Still wouldn't take much to beat it.

I would be fairly prejudiced against these end of season maidens where you have fillies looking for the bracket. Many of them have plenty of ability but would rather lie down than run forward.

Report TellTheKing November 13, 2015 12:38 PM GMT
No Kavvie, it's a ****. You're talking about a Godolphin 3yo in November. She's had the life galloped out of her at home at this stage, greenness ain't the problem.

I'm not saying she won't win as it's obviously a bad race. Far from a safe punting conveyance in my book though.

Good win by More of That to justify the late support. Wouldn't get too carried away with the form though. His jumping isn't any great shakes and he had a thief in second with a non chaser in third.

If he turns up in the Feltham on Boxing Day I would be fielding against him.
Report callitasucit November 13, 2015 2:33 PM GMT
He was a little bit high and ponderous over a few. Seemed to be needed to be chivvied into them to have a cut at them.

Though when he was asked for one down the back he was very good. Put down at the 3rd last though when Barry saw a stride. Showed how much was in the tank though that he was right back on the snaff. He didn't look a natural, but if he can get a bit more adept at his new challenge, he could be frighteningly good. The engine is serious, and the op has to be deemed a roaring success.

Shantou equally as exciting.

I don't like tipping lines, the joy of racing is picking a winner by your own work.however if I was to use a tipping line I have no doubt which won I would use.

Brilliant sum up of the racing from Callitasucit.
Report TellTheKing November 13, 2015 2:46 PM GMT
Shantou was very good. Nice to see a young trainer like Mulholland have a proper novice for the big meetings.

I'd agree More of That had plenty in hand up the straight. I'd be very worried though about a horse that burst as badly as he did last year when the taps are really turned in a better race. He was fortunate enough today to be faced with softish opposition.
Report callitasucit November 13, 2015 2:49 PM GMT
Rarely have a bet in these x country races, but Champion Court is interesting at a big price here(20 at the mo). Totally different class to this lot at his best, he is the type who may love this new challenge, and today may be his day.

Saw someone on the main forum say that the hint was in the way he described Midnight chase (rated 163) as just a handicapper. Obviously something was exercising his mind. He has his break now, well deserved as he seems to know what he is at.

WPM will probably pitch something from his mid-rank in with him next to see where he's at! Gave the second 4lb there.

Does JP step in?

Done very well to win after a lot going wrong throughout. Far rougher races there than in Punchestown. That horse will improve again hugely from that win. Could be the (non-Willie) Irish banker come March for many!

I remember being there the year she had an amazing sit on Harbour Pilot in the X Country at the festival. That was unreal, this was maybe better. Class.

Horse had a lot in hand (Josie's Orders) but the festival race is now a non-handicap which will mean massive turnaround in weights.

Very poor ride from Walsh there, poorly placed from start to finish , never ever put in with a chance of winning
Report TellTheKing November 13, 2015 3:47 PM GMT
Poor ride though it was something of a catch 22 with the hurdles taken out. Horse needs to be held up and was always going to be difficult to come from behind the way the race transpired.

He ran well Callit and is certainly very well handicapped in Northern UK circuit terms. Got a balls of a ride again from Brian Hughes. He'll probably win the next day in spite of him but there's a good horse there if they put up a rider that will take his time.

Leave At Dawn continues his progression tomorrow. I think he is quite well in off 127 and will take all the beating. Ran a stormer in Galway where he was lukewarm in the market, only giving best late. He travelled really well though still made some mistakes. If he smartens his jumping he will make into a fair horse. In any event he is more than good enough as it is to win tomorrow.
Report callitasucit November 13, 2015 5:42 PM GMT
The AW wouldn't be my cup of tea, but Chiclet went in the notebook after her run at the Curragh after a break the last day.

Travelled like the best horse in the race until a lack of a recent run, and early over exuberance took its toll. Sors and Strategic Heights can give Smullen an early tow here, and she should be able to put it to bed one down.

Has been backed at bigger, but 2.9 seems to still represent value.

Sharp, wd TTK, Chiclet will be a proposition a fair few times this winter you'd think. Took her an age to crack her maiden, but I wouldn't mind that in a pure sprinter. She's seriously quick, saw her lead a decent handicap in the UK earlier this summer.
