I do doubles with odds on shots mind you but singles very rare unless I make them a lot shorter........ I did an win treble the other day Elliots Meade and mullins that was fine.. keep well u ole stag
Easy you do know that doubles are cumulative singles? Just because you double them doesn't make the respective prices any bigger. If anything, you are normally decreasing the margin in your favour doing doubles.
I don't understand the mentality of people who only back odds on shots in multiples if they are not willing to back them in singles.

Your point above seems to be you do singles if you believe they are mispriced. This leads to the suggestion that you will only do multiples where they don’t particularly appear to be value bets which doesn’t seem to make much sense.
For example, Jetstream Jack, Road To Riches and the mare were rolled into a treble because you didn’t believe they represented significant single value. Should that not make them a no bet in that case? A horse is either a bet at the odds or they aren’t?

Tell..... I have been doing it that way from many years........ my treble stakes are low......... but backing odds on shots is not for me...... but 7/2 treble is fine.....

Not having a pop, just trying to get another perspective. I would back horses across a broad spectrum of prices including plenty of odds on shots. I view prices as individual separate entities (not all 4/6 shots are created equally) on a race by race basis. I never understood the people who say they don’t back odds on as a rule and equally those who roll up odds on shots in a multiple (like it somehow means they are not backing odds on).
I would have fairly dogmatic views on betting theory and the relationship many punters have with perceived short prices usually doesn’t stand up to mathematical scrutiny.

A punter tells the forum he will give them a few winners over the next few days.On day 1 he says have €50 on a 4\5 shot which wins.On day 2 he recommends having the €90 returns on a 4/6 shot which also wins.Then on day 3 he advocates putting the €150 on a 1\3 shot which duly obliges leaving him with €200.Most of the forum congratulate him on picking 3 winners.Some are strangely silent because they don't like other people backing winners especially if they have had a disagreement with them previously. easygold merely replies after each winner..."odds on...mmmmmmm....??????...why bother....??????"
A few days later easygold announces after a days racing that he backed the days 3 good things(which have won)in a 3\1 treble because he thought the true price of the treble was 7\4.Ironically the three winners were 4\5,4\6 and 1\3.

The overround on such bets is exponential meaning you're getting ridden by bookmakers on such bets. Think the lads in school figured this out in fifth year.
The honours lads then passed it on to us in Pass Maths.

Hi Tell, i know exactly where your coming from......... my average price a year is around 13/2-17/2..... I study so many races and have an opinion on a lot of races. For a rule I don`t punt on odds on shots, but some odds on shots are much stronger than others and I may get involved . But as a rule I dont get involved.
But I know exactly what ur saying........ but overall I dont back odds on............ i.e 4/6 on the Mullins horse today that never jumped a hurdle and has been off the track for a long time........ is a prime example...... some odds on shots are stronger than others.... where there is boxes ticked.

Today`s Advice......... as you expect on Saturday`s high class contests but there are some that are just too competitive for an investment. I do have four selections that I have narrowed down.
Cheltenham.....
BLAKLION (3m Novice Chase 1.15pm) I`m not a punter that brings hurdle ratings over to chase form without any public experience. That`s what a lot of people are doing with the David Pipe-trained Un Temps Pour Tout who makes his seasonal debut over fences. Of course he could be above these but at the prices I rather give the vote to the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained gelding.
I always had him in mind ever since I saw him winning a bumper that he could make into a fine staying chaser. A solid year over hurdles and I was more than impressed with his seasonal debut effort over fences. He would of certainly have found 2m3f on the sharp-side but his jumping was slick throughout and did ever so well to get with-in 4L off his speedier opponents at Chepstow last month.
I`m sure his connections knew the trip was on the sharp-side, but I thought it was a shrewd move. Now they know he can jump at speed which is a big asset to have over a longer trip when the contest heats-up, the rider can be aggressive at the business end.
I do feel he is the biggest danger to the Fav, and I honestly think he could easily take advantage with his experience under his belt this time around if the short-priced Fav can`t translate his hurdles form over fences.
I have no doubt the step up to three miles will suit and looks the value @ 5/1.
LEAVE AT DAWN (2m5f Handicap 3.35pm) at first glance I thought this would be too difficult to sort out with so many unexposed horses involved. But after a while of studying I didn`t like any of those types, I felt the Charles Brynes-trained-JP McManus??? owned five-year-old was the interesting one.
He is your typical McManus type, unplaced in novice/maiden races and then suddenly fine form when given a low-workable rating. He won his first handicap hurdle on his second attempt off a mark of 95 with the minimum of fuss and then was beaten @ 8/13 seven days later (it happens???).
He was off for a break, came back in March beaten easy enough in a two mile handicap but bounce back to form when stepped-up in trip to win quite snug at Killarney in May. They decided to miss the rest of the summer, the ground was probably too quick.
He returned last month to run a fine race to finish fourth of 17 in a competitive event at Galway where many had a fitness edge and I got the impression he needed the outing.
I have no doubt his trainer will have him spot-on for today`s event and barring accidents I can see him running a decent race. There is rain due during the day which won`t hinder his chances whatsoever.

WHO YOU FOR (3m Handicap Hurdle 1.30pm) a-three mile point winner back in April you would expect at least three miles would suit over hurdles. But to his credit he was quick enough to win a two mile bumper on his rules start in September which suggests he is not slow either.

KAYF BLANCO (2m Handicap Hurdle 3.15pm), a competitive event with many having some sort of chance but my selection has been drifting to a back-able price during the morning and I feel 8/1,7/1 are decent odds to get involved.
A likeable sort who always tries his best (1 win-6 places from 9 starts) and he caught the eye staying on from the rear to finish third under a hand and heels ride over C/D late last month.
Like many other hold-up performers they are always hoping the leaders are going a solid pace throughout to increase their chance. And looking at the pace angle I`m expecting this event will be run at a strong tempo throughout which will help for sure.
My only worry is that his connections havn`t book a claimer, it`s possible 11-11 could catch him out but he has carried big weights in the pass and ran with credit so I could be over studying the race??.
He should be fit and ready for a good run and I expect a decent display if all is well.

There's too much study gone into them bets easygold. And a lot of us on here don't have the attention span to read for too long.
Can you just tell us your friend in the stable said the 5/4 fav is working on the gallops like pegasus and it's the biggest certainty of the year if it's pointed in the right direction.
We prefer that.

your spot on rodger also another small help might be to put this great analysis up before the race on the other hand as we have seen in the past it tends to be not quite so accurate

You consistently give Snap jip for his selections after the event. I get jip for the golf bets(deservedly so of late). Others get the same. Its harder to be right before the result is known.
Its beyond condescending to come on with a profitable script after the event.

You shouldn't come on berating others opinions, when they have the balls to stress them pre event, when most(99%) of your insights are hindsight induced.

id have no problem with your write ups or any of your comical odds on theories if the selection or thoughts were before the race however they are not and thus an insult to all on here to come on after pontificating,

Roger i thought the weekends racing threads were very good in the main with some excellent posts put up pre race,hard racing overall but most picked their main fancy. Thought it was nice to see a bit of interest on here and racing was discussed and didn't descend into the usual farce.

I know you did Roger,all have an interest in racing though. Every bet that is beat can be classed as "comical" in reality. Would you not think it would be a "nice" thing to do is say something along the lines of erra lapsy i think you are miles out there? and give a reason or ten? Most i think would appreciate constructive criticism, it is when it is done after event that it isn't rightly welcome.
