I don't agree with The Gotchee about Galileo but he still makes a valid point.
Calling him dim or stupid is just wrong,Coolmore half agree with him as you will notice they have programmed Aidan OBrien to stress the " speed " of all these Galileos. I love the Curragh but am not so sure of this deal, this course has been run by the Turf Club for centuries now its in the hands of some pretty ruthless people. Don't forget the last racecourse Coolmore got their hands on was The Phoenix Park. |
|
By:
Dan, the gotchee is a grade A bawloxx as well you know. Hes dimmer than dim, and you know that too.
He makes no valid points, not about anything. |
|
By:
I don't agree at all.
I think he overstates his case with regards Galileo but he does latch on to this idea that if you are labelled a stayer you have no stud future, they all want milers. Galileo is a phenomenon but Coolmore knew from the getgo to keep stating all his progeny have unbelievable speed, they were frightened of the stayer label. |

Talk about stating the bleeding obvious,do try to remember you're posting on a racing forum and not pontificating to numpties on a bar stool. WMFB will always defend the indefensible (he'd argue with his shadow), the Gotchee's original post was that Galileo had never produced one decent miler and typifies the nonsense that he comes out with. |
|
By:
It may be obvious to you but Coolmore evidently didnt think it obvious to the breeders.
Every chance they had they stressed speed,it was like a mantra. I'm not arguing at all just feel you are being dismissive of a legitimate if esoteric point. |
|
By:
Dan, you'd argue with your toes. DJ 876 is spot on in what he says, the gobbshee's original post is completely different to the nonsense you are on about. His original point is all to do with the racehorse Galileo and fukk all to do with Coolmore.
|
|
By:
Do you just ignore what doesn't suit you?
The Gotchee's original post was that Galileo had never produced one decent miler so Frankel wasn't a decent miler It's a completely different discussion as to Coolmore's PR machine. |
|
By:
I'm responding to you first calling The Gotchee illiterate, then dragging up your résumé of a previous argument sprinkled with insults.
I've already stated I don't agree with The Gotchee about Galileo but that doesn't mean there is no merit in his argument, its never that black and white. The point about the Coolmore PR machine is relevant in that they sensed the danger, they saw some merit in The Gotchees point. |
|
By:
I never disputed the ability of Frankel, he is a freak and the best I have ever seen.
The point I was trying to make but it seems to have gone over your head is that Galileo has never produced a top class sprinter/miler. Yes, he has produced plenty that have won over 1 mile as a two year but we all know that 2 year old mile winners inevitably turn out to be stayers He has never produced anything in the calibre of Kingman, Goldikova, Wise Dan,Shadeed,Rock of Gibraltar,Miesque etc. I could go on but I would be here all night. Why do you think Gleneagles is going in the 1m 2f dirt race tonight instead of the 1 mile race. Gleneagles was their best chance of trying to convince us that Galileo could produce a decent miler. Alas, by his entry in the 1m 2f dirt race, they have conceded that he will be unlikley to produce a top class miler. P.S. Less of the aggression and abuse. |

The sprinter miler does not exist in Europe in a meaningful sense. Sprinters do not count in Europe, you sprint if you don't get a mile. That rubbish race at Ascot may change that, but hasn't yet and hopefully never will. Muharrar might have been interesting at a mile, but spent the season going past horses trained by Dean Ivory, James Fanshawe and Evanna McCutcheon so we won't know. That was a sprinter miler if there was ever going to be one.
The only sprint race worth two bob in Europe is the July Cup, but Coolmore wouldn't run a 3yo miler in it due to scheduling as it is around the time of the mid-season break when they are prepping horses for the Sussex. There has never been a proper Group 1 winning miler in Europe that wouldn't have pissed up in a July Cup. Paco boy finished like a train in it, the same Paco Boy that Rip Van Winkle swamped for speed in the Sussex and who couldn't get past Goldikova. The same Goldikova who Richard Hughes toyed with on Canford Cliffs. Canford Cliffs being the horse that the Hannons acknowledge would have pushed Paco's s hit back in. Paco Boy was Hannon Sr's favouite horse as well. To surmise again, the sprinter miler does not exist in Europe to my mind. It is a pat phrase for speed rather than a question that is ever put to a serious horse. Kodi Bear could be a sprinter miler of sorts at a certain level next season, I could also see Gordon Lord Byron tried over further as a last ditch, but then, neither are serious horses. |
|
By:
Actually to correct the first line, you sprint if you are not good enough to win or compete at a mile.

Alan Sweetman addressed the opening post in a relatively contentious manner (for the trade rag) a couple of days ago.
He continuously and justly referred to the situation as a takeover which is impossible to confute given the proposed board. Reading between the lines, there was as much cynicism implied as you're likely to read anywhere involving these connections. Punters and racegoers are the organ that keeps this industry flowing at all levels (despite what connections will convey)but are passive acquiescents who are continuously treated with utter contempt by the main benefactors. |

" I love The Curragh but am not so sure about this deal, this course has been run by the Turf Club for centuries now its in the hands of some pretty ruthless people.

I was going to reference that some of the points may have been regurgitated from on here but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt as it was hardly a unique viewpoint given the context.
I thought theclear negative connotations in relation to connection's strategy were pragmatic in contrast to the general sycophantic reporting but the punter's reaction is apathetic. |
|
By:
Slightly off topic, Alan Sweetman said Thats Nice was past the post in his analysis today in the rp, i thought the horse was as slow as a boat mainly on the Tipp run, i dopedly didn't lay as found it hard to make a case for the rivals beside the point but what were feelings on course Wildman?
Did see the new plans for the course and must say i was impressed by the look anyway. |
|
By:
Dan , if you were in Thurles today then I hope you offered your sincerest condolences to little Michael Hourigan after the very sad demise of his horse today. Poor Michael must have been inconsolable after that horrible incident. He would definitely have to be treated for shock as there's no way he could have predicted what happened.
|
|
By:
I would be deeply suspicious of the betting on that race.
There was little or no activity in the betting ring just the now common phenomenon of a horse shortening from 5/1 into 11/4 without a brass farthing being punted on it. This was an exchange led gamble,it wasn't a market adjustment someone knew there was something amiss with That's Nice, they acted accordingly. It shouldn't be that hard to find out who. |
|
By:
A friend of mine knows Michael and he says that he really is a lovely guy . A real nice man, and the suggestion that the horse was already crocked before he ran would be so unfair . There is simply no way an upstanding character like Michael would even dream of such a thing . The drift may well have been a market correction as it possibly should never have been 1/7 in the first place . It was penalised and it looked a race full of dangerous opponents . My thoughts are with Michael and his family tonight, I'd imagine this will hit him hard and hopefully he will recover at some stage.
|
|
By:
The one thing it wasn't was a race full of dangerous opponents, would be surprised if South Circle ever won another race would be astounded if any of the other three were ever placed again.
|
|
By:
Paul Flynn had two in it and Eddie Harty had one , not to mention the winner who had won a 9yo and upwards mare maiden somewhere . Make no mistake it was a very good race.
|
|
By:
Toomebridge, one of those top class point to points.
I should have backed that winner, didnt put enough work into it,mind you I'd say I was one of the few punters to leave Thurles losing. All joking aside I doubt if there was any intention to break the horse down but someone knew he wasn't working well. |
|
By:
Yes it's highly likely the horse wasn't working brilliantly .
