A flourishing combination that deserves the ire of all punters.

Martin comes across as an affable chap on television, he plays the caricature of the lovable rogue and hence punters tend to give him too much leeway.

I think it's more a case of a multitude trainers competing against each other to set up JP trained runners for the next big handicap pot and their success is rewarded with more ammo.

I didn't see the racing (or betting) live today and would suspect that the ground was a lot softer than ideal but it's long odds on that whatsforyouwontgobyyou will win a decent handicap hurdle in a farcical manner. Yes it has always being part of the game and Martin is peerless at it but it certainly shouldn't be diminished or indeed even celebrated

Difficult to have too much sympathy for punters that weren't expecting that type of run today but it's about time the untouchables got the curly finger.

I wouldn't have any sympathy for Harvey with how the British handicapper treats his runners for the major NH festivals.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Whatsforuwontgobyu, trained by A.J.Martin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Yes JP loves a tilt at the ring , lets just say his trainers serve him well .

The betting on that race stank to high heaven from early morning. Dollar and Dream was being backed all day, the fact that his owners were over from New York made today the day for him. They seem to come over every year and try to land a few gambles but couldn't pull it off today.
Report wildmanfromborneo September 17, 2015 10:34 PM BST
Tony Martin was interviewed before the race on ATR,he said he couldn't split the two funny thing was everyone else could.

One person will believe him though, the handicapper.
Report joevalue147 September 17, 2015 10:49 PM BST
Massive drifter all day . They knew it wouldn't be winning but I think Harvey will be a bit pis5ed as the handicapper will hardly drop him as that run was too bad to be true. If the handicapper does happen to drop him well then its quite obvious he is on their bandwagon. Which most suspect anyways.

Choreographed racing and yet many on here think the sun shines out of these charlatans ar$es.

BJG will carry out orders the same as all before him, this partnership will continue to flourish in big pot handicaps but should be vilified by all punters.

Handicapping has always been part of the game but these untouchables are well and truly taking the michael at this stage.

The racing press will be all over that easy run, sure one has to be considerate after such a heavy fall at Galway

Fran Berry," he was disappointing and didn't pick up,he had a hard oul' fall in Galway and will maybe get a bit of confidence after that".
I've no doubt he will and if i didn't know any better i would say it was the primary aim yesterday. As regards not picking up, a bit of assistance in the saddle goes a long way towards that. I had no bet in that race but was stunned to see the two in front rowing away and the 3rd doing next to nothing,he picked up very well in the last 100 yards and was a fresh horse.
Misses the Ces Saturday, that would have been some front if he managed to have won that.
As an aside Martins team has gone from 8 to 5 in that in the 5 day stage, interesting runners from him, Heartbreak City and Cassells Rock both came from the same claimer in France, the former showed a lot of improvement last time, both are works in progress. Quick Jack is exposed but should still be thereabouts. TM seems to like these 6 figure handicaps.

It proved a race to forget for Barry Geraghty, who not only missed out on the winner by riding McManus' Fever Pitch instead but also picked up a two days suspension.

Full text of Turf Club enquiry below:

The Stewards interviewed B.J. Geraghty, rider, in relation to his riding in the straight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was having his first run back after a wind operation and was ridden to get home. He added that his charge was outpaced, pushed along throughout and ridden out hands and heals after the last fence, without resorting to the whip.

He concluded by saying that he was beaten a short head for fourth place and was satisfied that he achieved his best possible place. Following the running of the race Fever Pitch was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 212, having failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to achieve his best possible place and having considered his record, suspended him for two race days and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.

It will be an interesting winter if the stewards are willing to take the green and gold to task. Very unusual for such a high profile senior rider to get done under this rule.

Nice touch for the partnership in the opener at Cork yesterday, books are a taking a hammering in Irish maiden hurdles which are often initially 2 horse races but come post time it's almost a one horse race.

Okostos 5/2 blasted into odds on (here) with his market rival(appropriately named) in the green and gold drifting like a barge.

A bit of a turnaround in the betting from Navan where Okostos drifted from 5/2 to 6.5 on here and was beaten 40 lengths

"He was entitled to do that and unfortunately the ground was a bit quick for him the last day and I shouldn't have run him. "I'd say the ground in Navan the last day was a shade quick for him. All his bumper form was on soft ground.

He won his bumper at Down Royal on good to soft ground.

Agree with Ototoks, twas a one horse betting race.
Hand is played now in the colours with Roll It Out,not straight forward as he showed in Gowran but seems to have grown up a bit since his break, not impossible to see him doing very well in say the Pertemps in March. The other runner in that Competitive Edge was anything but despite being very well in on chase ratings, not his day until hy appears in the going i'd guess.

Pretty obvious but can see Dollar and a Dream atoning at Cheltenham tomorrow. Made a mistake at the critical stage in Listowel after going through the race looking better than his mark, something Walsh can surely iron out. I wasn't so sure he'd travel over for the Friday.

Willie Mullins gave Dogora a good mention in the Cross Country. Must be a reason they've kept hold of him.

From Duncan Idaho's thread on the HR forum - the running & riding of 4 JP horses looked into by Fairyhouse stewards

http://www.irishracing.com/news?prid=160746

The Stewards at Fairyhouse held running and riding enquiries into five horses today, four of which were owned by Champion Owner J.P. McManus, and while three of the performances were merely 'noted', action was taken in the case of the Tony Martin trained Bobbi's Diamond and Pat Fahy trained Shantou Ed.

Martin and Fahy were both fined E1,000 for the performances of their charges with respective jockeys Philip Enright and Alan Crowe each receiving seven day suspensions and both horses receiving 30 day bans.

Bobbi's Diamond carries the colours of Deborah Breslin while the remainder Shantou Ed, Blow The Doors Off, Stakes Wallace and Uaintseenothingyet raced in the McManus silks.

The Stewards' Report from the day's racing reads:

327A Auld Stand/Kellys Pub Beginners S'chase

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Blow The Doors Off (GB), ridden by N.P. Madden, and trained by Conor O'Dwyer. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. N.P. Madden, stated that his instructions were to jump off mid-division or closer, to try and get the horse jumping well and finish best he could. He added that the horse jumped and travelled well before taking a blow and getting very tired in the closing stages. Conor O'Dwyer, confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the performance of both horse and rider. He added that the horse is only having his second run back after a long lay off and should improve for the run as a result. He also confirmed that the horse liked the ground and should appreciate a step up in trip in time. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Blow The Doors Off was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Shantou Ed, ridden by A.P. Crowe, and trained by P.A.Fahy. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. P.A.Fahy, stated that his instructions were to settle his charge in mid-division and to ensure he had a good round of jumping, bearing in mind that the horse had a bad experience on his last start at Navan. He was happy with the race until the horse made a bad mistake at the fence past the stands and lost his position. The trainer expressed his satisfaction with the ride and confirmed that he holds the horse in high regard and deems him well capable of competing at the highest level. Evidence was heard from A.P.Crowe who confirmed the instructions he received and added that the horse failed to jump well enough to get into the race. He stated that he jammed on at the first fence, was slow at the second and made a bad mistake at the fence past the stand. He added that he rode the horse out as strong as he could, without resorting to the whip, but the horse finished very tired.

The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Shantou Ed was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both trainer and rider were in breach of Rule 212(a), in that all reasonable measures were not taken to ensure that the horse was given a full oppurtunity to obtain his best possible placing and having considered their clean records in this regard, the trainer was fined €1,000, Shantou Ed was suspended for thirty days and A.P.Crowe was suspended for seven race days and ordered to forfeit his riding fee.

-The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Bobbie's Diamond, ridden by P.T. Enright, and trained by A.J.Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. A.J.Martin, stated that the instructions were to settle the horse in mid division and to get him jumping and come home best he could. He added that the horse has a respiratory issue and has always made a noise at home and on previous runs. P.T.Enright confirmed the instructions and stated that having jumped poorly he got further back than he had hoped. He added that he gave his horse a chance in the back straight and having filled his lungs, stayed on well. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Bobbie's Diamond was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both trainer and rider were in breach of Rule 212, in that all reasonable and permissible measures were not taken to give the horse a full opportunity to achieve the best possible place and having considered their records, P.T. Enright was suspended for seven day's and ordered to forfeit his riding fee and Bobbie's Diamond was suspended for thirty days. A.J.Martin was fined €1,000 and referred to the referrals committee having failed to report that the horse had made a respiratory noise on previous runs, in accordance with Rule 213. Mr. Robert Dore, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Laurance McFerran acted as chairman.

327D2 Like Fairyhouse On Facebook M'dn H'dle

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Staker Wallace, ridden by N.P. Madden, and trained by E. Bolger. Evidence was heard from the rider and Authorised Representative. N.P. Madden, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount seventh or eight , give him some light and do the best he could. He added that the horse jumped and travelled well before choking from the back of the second last.

Frank Berry, representing E. Bolger confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the horses performance and the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Staker Wallace was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Uaintseenothingyet (GB), ridden by J.S. McGarvey, and trained by Edward P.Harty. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. J.S. McGarvey, stated that his instructions were to take his time, get him jumping and make the best of his way home. He added that the horse ran green , made a few jumping errors and made a respiratory noise in the closing stages.. Edward P.Harty, confirmed the instructions and added that the horse is very big and raw. He also added that the horse coughed post race. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Uaintseennothingyet was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations, however they were of the opinion that J.S.McGarvey was in breach of Rule 213(ii), having failed to report at the first instance that the horse had made a noise and having considered his record, cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

N.P. Madden, rider of Staker Wallace trained by E. Bolger, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount choked from the back of the second last.

Interesting to see how this trend goes during the season. I have heard, unsurprisingly, previously that JP gets quite animated with trainers when his horses are pulled in. It’s seen as a failure on their part that the horses run eye-catching races.
