Anytime I saw someone chronicling his bets I knew it was not long til they gave up.

wildman, I'd appreciate it if you and everyone else would refrain from commenting on this thread and instead sign the petition if the proposal is something you would welcome.

If the books have your profit/loss no reason why you shouldn't though it might make for uncomfortable reading for some.Probably the biggest single step to cut problem gambling to some small extent at least.

All gamblers (compulsive and other) should have profit and loss info available.

What I would also like to see if how much registered bookmakers bet with Betfair.
After the commercial tie-up between PP and Betfair will PP lay a bet in a shop and immediately bet that in the exchange at higher odds?
I'm sure their IT people could automate that giving them an advantage over other bookmakers, and exchange customers.

Very surprised that only 2 forumites have signed so far. I can only see advantage in the proposal for everybody who bets online.

I only became aware on Sunday last that my opening post on 14th Sept, explaining the petition, had been deleted within 2 hours of that post.

I followed this up with Betfair and received the following explanation from their Social Operations Manager :


As you may know, TSE Global Limited (which is the company that manages the Forum) has the right to delete or refuse any posting. This rule can be found in paragraph 5 of the Betfair Forum ‘Conditions of Use’, a copy of which is here for ease of reference: http://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Terms.and.Conditions/#terms-forum. 

Your post was deleted as it promoted an online petition to change the business practices of Paddy Power plc.  In light of the proposed merger between Betfair and Paddy Power (which is not yet complete), it was decided that the Betfair Forum was not an appropriate platform for such a discussion at this stage.


That's fair enough as, although the merger with PP must be odds on to be completed, the fact is that it isn't yet finalised.


Thanks to those who signed what I believe is a proposal that, when implemented by all online bookmakers, can seriously help everybody to gamble responsibly.

Its responsible gambling that they want, its irresponsible gambling that should be condoned.
They want to brainwash people into taking small bits of money of a vast audience, and tell that audience that they are gambling responsibly. Theres no harm being done. Powers are coming on saying that gambling should be treated as a leisure experience, for every 100 you gamble, they keep 10 for providing a platform to have a good time, what a load of old bawloxx that is.
What they want is to channel all the small punters into a corner, and take all their money off them slowly. They also want smaller punters to look on bigger players as some sort of social pariah, that spoil their experience.
