It's about time RTE go rid of Marty, his commentary is boring and repetitive.  Can they not get a modern man to takeover.

Sky coverage is very good, not over the top or anything, maybe Marty should make way for Rachel Wyse if they could get her?
Report triumphoragony August 16, 2015 6:04 PM BST
Rachel isn't a commentator ...and if Gaelic games are so exciting, then why have we heard all those commentaries before
Report frank60 August 16, 2015 6:17 PM BST
Wonderful hurling today, well done Galway
Report kavvie August 16, 2015 6:32 PM BST
best game of hurling i ever had the pleasure to witness.fab scores, fab saves, manly sporting behaviour from both sides. result in doubt right up to the last few seconds..i thought both marty and michael duignan contributed greatly with their expert comments..

AM i alone in thinking that Hurling at top level is one of the greatest games in the world?.. A real mans sport , i dont know what skys  coverage does for the game worldwise ,maybe someone out there knows.

Best sport in the world Frank.
Report Eddie Batt August 16, 2015 8:27 PM BST
Today was epic -Marty was excited but he had reason to be excited-Duignan sounded like he was having a heart attack at the end but in fairness to the two of them they consistently said Galway were the better team.

The Deise just falling short Eddie....
Report timberman August 16, 2015 9:32 PM BST
The deise were responsible for a lot of average encounters this year, their set up is very negative for spectators
Report Eddie Batt August 16, 2015 11:32 PM BST
Waterford overachieved this year-no team should ever have to apologise for that.Hard to name a good game before today.

Best and most skilful field sport in the world , marketed properly it would attract huge viewing figures and put most other so called "great" games into the ha'penny place .

Was driving back from Kerry this evening , only heard it on the radio , brilliant game , must have looked odds on a replay .

Kilkenny are a decent price now though . And I think its the old dog for the hard road .
Report kavvie August 17, 2015 8:12 AM BST
at 1/2 kelly? i was on tipp big to win out at 7/2  sadly and i think galway have an outstanding chance of beating kk at 15/8 /  2/1.provided they play to the same level as yesterday..
Report Kelly August 17, 2015 1:40 PM BST
Thinking back to the Leinster series when Kilkenny beat Galway by 7 points ,kavvie, not sure what price Kilkenny were for that match , but dont think they were 1/2 .

A final is a final at the end of the day , some teams handle it , lots dont . Kilkenny have all the boxes ticked .  Love to see Galway upsetting the applecart , just dont see Cody and co losing out .
Report kavvie August 17, 2015 10:58 PM BST
maybe..
Report Golden Fleece August 20, 2015 6:45 PM BST
Kelly are you sniffing glue? the best and most skilful field sport in the world, its only played by about nine or ten counties and badly by most of them,at least you have a good sense of humour.
Report kavvie August 20, 2015 6:52 PM BST
golden fleece its the same in every sport..who wins premiership? chelsea or man city?spain? barca or r madrid. football kerry dublin or possibly mayo...its the way it is..the cream rise..consistently.in fact more teams in hurling have "a chance" than most sports..kilkenny tipp  galway  cork waterford limerick clare dublin and possibly wexford..cant be said bout many other sports can it?
Report Kelly August 21, 2015 2:12 AM BST
golden fleece, we are talking about hurling played at the highest level . Be that 8 , 9, 10, 11 or whatever . I am not talking about under age hurling or the like  , just the top echelon .

Any one in the world can kick a football , very few can puck a ball effortlessly  and accurately 70 yards or more . That Kilkenny and their competitors can turn out superb teams year on year is pretty astonishing , given the skill sets involved and the high speed nature of the game . Plus the physical challenges , no one lies down on a hurling field unless they are actually hurt . Soccer is probably the most played field sport in the world , top class hurling puts virtually any soccer match you care to mention in the ha'penny place . unfortunately we only get about 5 or 6 top class competitive hurling matches a year , but we should savour those matches , like last Sunday .

Soccer is marketed superbly , and the public have become brain washed by the media and coverage of soccer . Particularly in England  , but some on this island have bought into that scene too . Not one of the current England team would have got onto their 1966 winning world cup team , no progress other than bums on seats and over paid players trying hard not to be role models for kids . Top class rugby , even with the inherent problems brought about by force replacing skill largely is more watchable than most soccer matches .

American football I find boring , and the attrition rate among players is attracting lots of media coverage , as with rugby . Athletics and cycling are bedevilled by drugs , and while not field sports the believability factor in performances takes away dramatically from spectator enjoyment .  Thankfully hurling has none of these problems , long may the hurlers ( our national sport)  entertain us for little reward other than the glory of their sport . Running out of other (field) sports for comparison purposes , Aussie rules can be excellent ,but it happens at night re our time zone ,  and it is (like hurling) confined to one country essentially .

the english soccer fad amazes me really.95% crap games.started looking at soccer last sunday after the hurling  .the words paint and drying came to mind.and whats with all the tattos?  i even see liverpool players advertising nivea..rubbing it into their tramp stamps..surely not the cleverest advertising  ploy ever?
Report mincer11 August 21, 2015 12:13 PM BST
Whats with the tatooes is right?, that absolute ponce Beckham started this Shiite about 10 years ago and all the other fairies have followed him.
They are a dreadful example to young impressionable kids who are watching. Noticed a picture of Bale talking to Benitez on a paper this morning, and to make a  refreshing change was he was tattoo free. Even Messi has an ugly thing on his hand.

I find myself agreeing with Mayfield on this .
Report kincsem August 21, 2015 6:19 PM BST
It is a pity the world ignores the wonderful hirling skills in favour of the unskilled game of soccer.  They should wake up.
