Starts at 11.am, make sure you are early and get your jog for jockeys t -shirt. The advertisment says all are welcome, its for a great cause.
I particularly like the one where it says entry fee is 20 and team of five is 100, thats if you pre register of course.
Wildman will be leading the line at this thing i'd imagine, he's probably armed with his tee shirt already.
Id imagine all were welcome at Kieren O Connell's funeral too, its a shame none of the little jockeys bothered their hole turning up.
Could anybody out of interest tell me of any other sporting group who have a cap in hand branch like these brave men have?.

The European Tour is an organisation that does not adequately look after their members when they are finished and do not have a pension scheme in place to deal with this. I believe it is something that is being looked at now.

It is unrelated to jockeys in that the threat of serious injury in golf is only there if you stand quite a distance from the fairway and I am on the tee, but providing adequate support for careers after a profession is finished is something that should be an obligation of the professional organistaion that they are affiliated to.

In the case of jockeys, the insurance premiums would be huge, but surely far more needs to be done by the organisation(s) themselves to take care of jockeys when they retire or those that suffer very serious injuries. Clearly a pension is not going to be suitable for many as their earnings would never result in any reasonable pension afterwards, but I am unaware of the steps that are taken in terms of insurance policies to cater for the injuries that are sustained.

The horse racing industry gets an incredible amount of funding from the Government, with so much of it given away in prizemoney like last week, especially given that the sponsor is asked to contribute a very small portion of the overall prize in many cases. What is in place by means of catering for retirement and injury? Is it far too great a premium or is it something that is being mismanaged? I never hear mention of this or who looks after this very critical side of the sport.

I would not crab any of the charitable efforts that are put in place, but I would be interested in what racing does for itself in the first instance and before the requirement of charity is looked at? The website does not make any mention of the first port of call for an injured jockey.

The retired jockey (maybe from a minor injury) is also very relevant to this discussion as there anything in place to re-educate or provide some platform for him/her to pursue another career.

The last mention of insurance that I can remember was a long time ago and I dragged up an Irish Times article on it. The cover was very low and the premiums were extremely high, so is this an avenue that cannot be improved or has not been improved?

The stats and facts are listed on the website as below - but it would be illuminating to know what is in place before recourse to donations is required? Is there more information out there in the public domain? If more information was out there then a greater sum of money could possibly be raised, but the view of mincer could well be a view of many and it will limit the effectiveness of the charity.

Stats and Facts

A jump jockey is 10 times more likely than a flat jockey to fall per ride
A point-to-point jockey is over 20 times more likely to fall than a flat jockey and twice as likely than a jump jockey to fall per ride
Flat jockeys who fall have a 46% chance of recordable injury which is over twice as high as their jumping contemporaries and five times higher than a point-to-point rider
The highest rate of recordable injuries by jockeys in 2013 were skin injuries including; haematoma / contusion / bruising
Safety standards of helmets improved in 2014

Dr. Adrian McGoldrick, Senior Turf Club Medical Officer raised the helmet safety standard from January 1st 2014
Since then all helmets used in Ireland must meet dual standards of PAS015:2011 (Irish Standard) and ( EN1384)
British Horseracing Authority have also implemented this change since October 1st
A new draft for European Standards by Dr Adrian McGoldrick has been sent to all European countries. This is called an enquiry i.e. each country decides if they support all or some of its context.

Distant View makes some good points, what should happen is that a sizeable percentage of the prize money won by all jocks be put in a pool to help jocks that retire and are injured etc. So basically a journeyman jock would get the same as anybody else when he packs it in. The bulk of the prize money is won by a certain few jocks so in essence it's them guys who will be looking after their less fortunate peers.
Everybody knows how that would go down of course, like a lead balloon.
The jocks as usual want to be subsidised by others, did you ever see the little mongrels in a pub, it's like they got a belt of a bar counter when they were  younger .
Instead of jog for jockeys, maybe kick in the bolloxxx for jockeys would be a better way of raising funds. I'd definitely get a book of 5

If Mincer backs a loser its never his fault, its generally the jockeys fault.

Mincers preferred form of punishment is urinating or defecating in their mouth, this is enthusiastically supported by Gemini10.

There are words for Mincers obsession just not sure they would be allowed on here.

DV is spot on and points are well made. Irish racing is an absolute joke in the way its run and how more questions haven't been raised in relation to its government funding is beyond me.

In the paper some years back was a headline saying 66 million secured for racing, the article beside it was about the closure of some hospital.

I think its incredible how racing gets all this money but then when you see what money is squandered on paying rich lawyers suing us,squandered n bogus compensation claims maybe its for the best.

Big celebration on Saturday night in Adare for Tony McCoy. Over 2000 people going apparently and I'm sure each and every jockey that was close to McCoy will all be there.
A spectacular bash I'd imagine, a well deserved celebration for one of the all time greats. A night that couldn't be missed under any circumstances by anyone close to him
