Enjoy the trip and make plenty.
Has there ever been a forumite as travelled racecourse wise as Workrider. In the interests of brevity he should list the racecourses he hasn't attended. |

Wildmanfromborneo I still have plenty more to see on the other side ,especially around middle England , i.e Yarm, Fake,Leic , Hunt , War, Wolves etc. Its always a pleasure going racing in UK only downside is the security , heavyhanded would be a kind way of discribing it ,although a English friend of mine informed me at Naas recently that a lot of it has to do with fear of attacks from outside agencies if you get my meaning .I was able to ramble in and out of the owners and trainers stand at will on Thurs night ,impossible for that to happen in the UK.

There's an awful lot of people going racing on a regular basis. The vast majority of us don't, and don't feel the need, to broadcast it. Yet more attention seeking from poor aul wonky. Must be costing the taxpayer an absolute fortune with all these trips. And has no shame bragging about it!!

the man loves the game..and its a great thing at his age to be travelling to see the racing in the north of the uk..

Finglas, maybe if you told them in the dole office you were heading over to England for a bit of racing, they would hold your payments over for a week eh...

It's a pity the snow melted, twould be no harm if they kept ya there ya ginnit.
At least you'd have been sponging off someone else instead of us taxpayers subsidising your "idyllic " lifestyle. |

Mincer I was at the NCH a while ago ,Mahlers Symphony no 5 I think it was , I'd say he was going through a depression when he wrote it ,the lady sitting next to me when it had finished said, wasn't that wonderful , I looked at her in horror ,its the worst piece of classical music EVER wrote , I realised she was also a manic depressive . YOU would love it.
|
|
By:
Difference between sadness and depression imo, think he was going for the former!
|
|
By:
Agree Neill, and not trying to undermine in any way anyone who suffers from depression , just getting the baul Mincer to raise to the bait ,which he does on a regular basis thank God , if only my horses were so predictable.

aye aye, Kaavie just had a grand winner there, thought he was a bit weak on the exchange so left it when I then heard of the ground. Pity Golden Horn didn't run as I thought he'd have well gotten away with the ground, was going to have a good bet on him this morning.
I think the real reason he isn't running is that they don't want him labelled as a mudlark to go along with his lack of precocity. Would totally **** his second career. |
|
By:
or even that he likes soft ground, can't be that soft if Portage won!
|
|
By:
I backed Snow this morning @ 9.2 so was hoping Golden would stay in ,don't think they're to worried what anyone thinks ,he's a grand horse and did whatwas needed to make him a Stallion by winning at York , just thought today's track mightn't have suited him as well as York or Epsom..
|
|
By:
teofillio wouldnt be known as a breeder of soft ground horse for sure neill!!

|
By:
Yeah that was the bit that put me off although trainer seemed to brush it off as you say. Could make hay with him at Leopardstown in those group races next summer.

I shall be embarking on a round the world racing trip soon and I just can't wait. The excitement is unreal. I start off at home and take in Champions Weekend at Leopardstown and The Curragh mid-September.
Then it's off to Paris for Arc Weekend early October. I intend to take both days in. On we go to Ascot for QIPCO Champions Day mid- October. Then 2 weeks later it's off to the U S of A for The Breeders Cup. Not much time to re-energise as a long trip to Australia ensues. The 1st Tuesday in November for The Melbourne Cup. This is followed by one of my favourites as it is then off to The Land Of The Rising Sun and The Japan Cup. We round it off where it all began, as I head back to Leopardstown for the 4 day Christmas Festival, if funds allow. I hope to give you the St Leger winner before I leave.... All the best.. Slick. |

Workrider if you get a chance take your wife on holiday to Norfolk.
Stay in a lovely village called Wells next to Sea,visit Holkham Bay and on your way take in Fakenham races. Fakenham racecourse is a hidden gem,its like our Irish courses, its quaint and friendly. |

The sniping Mrcombustible is surprising,he normally has a soft spot for the religion of peace but here he is praising a Catholic shrine albeit in a sneering way.

Will note that Wildmanfromborneo , will try and plan a holiday around one of their meetings , their season finishes early though and dosen't really fit it to my plans most years..

“Thirsk is a “fun”, northern Flat course, where any owner will be happy. Quite flat, oval 1 mile 2 furlongs, with a straight of 4 furlongs. The 5 and 6 furlong courses are straight, undulating until they join the round course 4 furlongs from home. On the left-handed round course in races of 7 furlongs and 1 mile, low numbers are naturally favoured, but in the straight sprint events high numbers appear to have an advantage. The round course is a bit sharp for a long-striding horse, but the sprint tracks are really fast. You bounce out of the gate and come the whole way, and a brilliant short runner may last home. Even the most hardened professional without a runner enjoys an afternoon out at Thirsk, helped by the excellent catering common to so many northern tracks.” ....... Training The Racehorse, Tim Fitzgeorge-Parker (1993)
About 20 years ago I did a 7 runner bet, all combinations, all short-priced. The first six won, but the seventh, a favourite at Thirsk, lost. It think the draw did him. Enjoy the trip. Back winners. |
|
By:
I was there about a month ago Kincsem ,lovely little track and a smashing little town ,drove up Sutton Pass boy what a drive . The track is tight enough and you need the draw in your favour , catering left a lot to be desired tbh . Still worth a visit .

The wildman throws wonky a crumb, and wonky being his little poodle, laps it up...
|
|
By:
How is that a crumb,I raced regularly at Fakenham years ago, loved Norfolk and told him so.
Why so mean spirited ? The fact is the man is a prodigious racegoer and eventually will attend all racecourses on these islands, probably should leave the secret joys of Fakenham til last. |

Ah so you HAVE met Mincer...

Terrible day yesterday at Thirsk , a bookies dream that place , visited Middleham , King Richards castle is very interesting ,Ben Haslams yard is practically attached to it .Was asking the way to the gallops from a man who happened to be a trainer unknown to me , had a few words about racing low and behold we had a few mutual friends .He kindly invited me to Market Rasen today , were I was feed and watered finely .Went to Church today in a town called Castiors were the Vicar introused me to a lady who he said was big into racing and we had a little chat , turns out it was Pat Harris wife of the former trainer and Mother of present trainer Sean , she regaled me with some smashing stories about her time with Tim Thomson Jones , older formites will remember him .Backed 2 winners today ,so nearly back in funds after yesterdays disaster ..
