I suppose the most important attribute needed this evening will be an ability to act on very testing ground.

9.00 Balinrobe - Cillian's Return

Tony Martin, JP and Francis Martin - drifting like a barge Scared

I am not sure if this fellow has a timeform squiggle (he hasn't looked the most straight forward at times) but I think it's his connections that should have one for his last run. He drifted from 4/7 to 4/5 and was given a corresponding ride. Out the back and then wide on the bend, giving the gambled on Theo's Well (subsequent easy winner over hurdles) first run and he only started racing of the bend which is madness considering Balinrobe has the shortest run in in the country of just one  and a half furlongs.

He has some very impressive form on soft ground though including beating Vigil in a Fairyhouse bumper on soft ground, his best flat form is also on heavy ground at Gowran.
Interestingly he made all at Fairyhouse and attempted to make all on his penultimate start at Gowran.

The hood worn lto is now replaced with the application of cheekpieces but I would prefer to see the application of some hard cash but there is a bang off him on here currently. Conversely the Ross O'Sullivan trained Tetraites has being very well punted having ran in the ladies derby race on Saturday at the Curragh.

I think he's overpriced now at 9/4, anyone any views on why he's drifting so much ? (even in these wafer thin markets)

7.30

Again the ground should be pivotal in this race and I think Lean and Keen is overpriced at 5/2 with PP. He won a better race than this at Leopardstown on heavy ground off just a 2lbs lower mark but now has the assistance of P.J Smullen. The less exposed Marhall Jennings is a live danger for the in form Jessica Harrington having proven his liking for soft ground at Epsom when with Richard Hannon.

Selections.

9.00 - Cillian's Return - 2.0 points win at 9/4

7.30 - Lean and Keen - 1.5 points win at 5/2
7.30 - Marshall Jennings - 0.85 points win at 7/4 (cover stakes)

I took the 9/4 dj,i don't know why he,s drifting?cannot be ground concerns?but anyway im willing to back him
Beverly 6.40 TOM SAWYER,
CD winner always good when running round here its one of them tracks that horses seem to come back and run well on, the win lto was  beating the favourite,i think his chances are based on him getting out quick either leading or being in the first 2 he has a great draw so no excuses.
best of luck all

Cillians Well doesn't look to have a brain in his head, scary stuff at Ballinrobe, lobbed along at Gowran as well and looked as if he didn't know what was required of him.Might win but rosary beads for the finish as liable to do anything.
Saying that poor enough rivals,Tetraites out quick which may be a pointer, decent class on Sunday and travelled well but didn't quite finish out, still looks the ew play at 4/1 to me.

that's why I have chanced it pa..looks weak race if martins runs to lto that should be enough?

I don't think he did much wrong in the finish at Gowran over one mile, attempted to make all, was caught for pace and stayed on again.

I can't see any other finish where one would be lead to say that you need rosary beads in the finish with him??

He looked straightforward in winning his bumper at Fairyhouse and maiden hurdle at Tipperary. I would be inclined to read the whole narrative of his last run, a braindead hold up ride, an attempt to make up ground on the bend 6 wide,  (he was 6th 2 furlongs out) and a smelly drift beforehand.

More than likely I will be wrong if this drift materialises (with these connections) when the market's are more liquid but I am expecting a much improved performance on soft ground and he will be extremely difficult to beat if he makes the running like he did at Gowran and Fairyhouse imo.

Best of luck to ye,that last half furlong was pure rotten from him last time though i accept he didn't get the run of the race in going so wide, it would indeed be hard for him to trump that tonight.
Anyway just my opinion as you asked about the drift,i have medals for getting things wrong before.

Good to see a racing thread lads.

Have laid Swordfight 6.20. Had word for this lad fto at the Curragh last year , never really felt he was giving his all in any of his runs ,money for him tonight ,I just feel he lacks something and keeps a little back for himself.

I thought the track might be a bit sharp for tetraites. The heavy ground might negate that concern but I still see the sharp turns being a potential problem as he has looked a bit one paced on occasion.

I fancy Ittimetogo in the 8.00. His last 3 runs have been good - 4th on soft @ Clonmel, 3rd at this course behind back off mate and 6th @ Killarney when impeded and finished strongly. Lots of runners but not that many dangers in my opinion - get out of jail being the chief rival. Backed it @ 7/1 now.

Dj876 had a healthy 12.5 points profit on his Sunday selections,I agreed with him then but disagree with him today.

Cillians Return pure didnt act on the track last time,I'm amazed they are returning.
The form of his Gowran second is terrible although accept it was over a mile.
He is by a horrible sire.

I think the course is against Lean And Keen he wants a galloping crack.

Well done DJ.

The run of Takeachanceonme would worry me with regards Cillians Return but its hard to go against DJ at the moment.

Well done dj

I think it's very harsh to say that diamond green is a horrible sire. He seems to do well with sprinters and 2yo's for a low cost, presumably having got relatively low quality mare's.

Fair play, nice to see a thread with a few winners.
Your one got mullered Newsapproach,i'd give it another chance.
Report dj876 July 20, 2015 8:37 PM BST
Whether he didn't act on the track (impossible to judge that from where Fran positioned him),resented the first time hood (CP tonight),was unbalanced from a strange ride by Fran Berry (after an alarming drift) or just purely muled it is open to interpretation.

As I said in the opening line, the most critical variable tonight is an ability to handle heavy ground and he most definitely does.

Drawn in stall one, I'd love to see him jump out and attempt to make all like he did at Gowran and on bottomless ground at Fairyhouse when destroying Vigl because I think he could be on a different level to these on this ground.

I would be embarrassed to say what price I thought he would be last night but it has been a fairly volatile betting heat so far and he's certainly not as weak as he was earlier (nearly 7/2 at one stage on here)

Yeah,ffs- strange betting.

What's the reason given?

You might get a chance to see Cilian's at Leopardstown wed.
Britain at the Bookies is on bbc1 at 9.00,it will probably be a bit of tragic viewing with some poor hangishores doing their nuts on electronic roulette.

Thursday in a much better race (all flat trainers) in a 1m 6f handicap.

The shortening up on here was just to increase the reduction, knowing Martin he might not have been an intended runner at all, god only knows but second guessing him isn't a wise strategy in general. 7 runners is a stones for ew punters.

An improved performance from Golden Spear is likely at Ballybrit.

It's a bit of a joke when he's best flat and NH form is on heavy ground
