Another standard par 72 track from Pete Dye in 2003 again this week and I’m expecting another birdie fest.

The winner will be a rising star, a young ball-striker going for his first win on TOUR in a poor field with only a few big names to leapfrog moving up the leaderboard come Sunday. 5/4 under 30 for ‘age of the winner’ is the bet.

Dustbin Johnson, Aussie Day & that 'smug South African' Rose should not be of any concern to Daniel Berger 66/1, Justin Thomas 50/1, Fowler 16’s or Sean O’Hair 40’s....May add Horsesh8te 33’s after Rd 1.

Furyk became the fourth-winningest player under 50 on TOUR with win number #17 last week - trailing Tiger #79,  Mickelason #42 and Ernie with #19.
JIM also became the oldest winner on TOUR at 44yo, since Woody Austin, 49, won the 2013 Sanderson Farms Classic.

SO IT’S TIME for the young guns to moonshine !

One of the easier layouts on the PGA Tour with SEVEN first-time PGA TOUR winners in 10 events on this course, including the last three.

This week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans marks the final opportunity for players not already eligible for THE PLAYERS Championship to earn a spot in the field at TPC Sawgrass May 7-10. There are three ways a player can become eligible following this week’s tournament - move inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans or move inside the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Marc Warren #53 in OWGR. In three PGA TOUR starts this year - two of them World Golf Championships - he has a pair of 35th-place finishes to go with a tie for 17th.
Also on the watch-list are Harris English #56 (25/1) along with my man Tommy Fleetwood Mac #55 in China.

I see the Indonesian Masters from Royale Jakarta Golf Club is also on this week as part of the ASIAN TOUR.

A few familiar names like Lee Westwood 2/1 fav, Thomas Bjorn 18/1 2nd fav, Prayad Marksaeng & Pharkheen Youzlesskharnt & Yong Eun YE Yang in the 'very light' field.

Familiar looking field on the “European Tour” at this time of year.

Few drifters noted that are fair prices if I can get them matched.

Romain Wattell 48 was closer to 25s last week and he is knocking on the door since last Summer.
Cabrera Bello 50 Minimum price I would need to back this inconsistent Spaniard.
Ross Fisher 40 Stats from last week show that his long game is in great order.
Larazabal 32 Disaster on the back 9 on Sunday means we get a nice boost on Pablo’s price this week.
Aphibarnrat 25/1 Can he go back to back? Yes.
Alex Levy 33/1 Another player that has drifted in price after a Top 25 last week.

Tommy Fleetwood on the other hand is looking underpriced. A general 18/1 shot now. I’d need some more evidence that he is back to his best before backing him at that price.

New Orleans : A course where there is very inconsistent course form. I’m looking for players that have been playing well this season or in recent weeks.

Dustin Johnson looks clear fav. 8/1 is fair IMO.
Justin Thomas 50s Did well last week and possibly should have been closer to the top of the leaderboard. This layout is right up his ally.
Brendan Steele Brendan No.1 comes here in form.
Brendan de Jonge 90 Continues to play well. Happy to keep with him.
Harris English 30 Should be refreshed after missing Masters. Back to his best this year.

Others that make the 'watch list'...

Harris English fired 14-under in 2013, his last visit, to finish T6.
He enters the week on the back of seven of eight cuts made in 2015 and finishes of T10-T29-T30.
He has had three weeks off so he should be fresh and ready to get low. He’s 20th in ball-striking and 19th SGP.

Morgan Hoffmann (Yes the other Hoffman) in the top 10 this week for current form players. The 36-hole leader at Arnie's finishing solo fourth and then was T28 on his Augusta debut so current form would have been an angle here he adds T9 to a very steady three tournament run. His run of form stretches back to Riviera where he was T22 and T17 at Doral. He had two top 10s in 2014 in 32 events. He has two this year in 12.

Troy Merritt best finish in 13 events this season was solo sixth at Innisbrook prior to Hilton Head. He led after 36 and 54 holes for the first time in his career and that was backed by a course-record-tying 61 on last Friday. Like Kisner he stuck all four rounds in the 60s for the week in HH. He only made two bogeys but it was the two doubles (one from the fairway) that he’ll look back on for guidance. He entered that week fourth on TOUR in SGP and 155th SGT-T-G. Last week he was fifth in GIR and third SGTTG. He was ninth in putts per GIR so that didn’t hurt either. That was his 86th start and fourth top 10. This is also his second one in his last four events so his confidence should be high. His best finish is second and that was last May.

Driving distance and Greens in regulation will be the key stats to focus on this week imo and with that in mind, I have plumped for the following players this week:

Brendan Steele 40/1
In form Texan who is in good form this year including when 2nd in Humana Challenge which offers a similar test.

Justin Thomas 40/1
Impressive full debut season for this long hitter who should be ideally suited by this test. Players yet to have tasted PGA tour success have an impressive record in this event.

Cameron Tringale 60/1
Impressive GIR player who is back in form last few weeks including  decent debut @ Augusta. Another player waiting for 1st PGA tour win.

Daniel Berger 66/1
Another impressive debutante who went very close to winning @ Honda Classic. His long driving will be a big advantage this week.

Martin Laird 80/1
Excellent ball striker who should also be strongly suited to this course. Form a bit patchy this season but could go close if he brings his A game.

Good luck all.

Bit tied for time this week, think Thomas and Guthrie have smashing chances in particular on a course which will suit, where the favourites are vulnerable to lesser lights with a hot putter.

Good Luck all.

Rose stumbled into the Masters on the back of MC-MC-55TH-MC-T37 but he showed his class rebounding to finish T2. His ball-striking rounded into form and that’s where he puts the fear into the field. The last three at TPC Louisiana have yielded T10-T15-T8 and 38-under-par while Rose's 24 career rounds at TPC Louisiana, 18 have been under par, including 11 in the 60s.

Catch Me ifyoucan  • April 25, 2014 10:13 PM BST

In a tournament littered with unheralded players, Justin Rose gave Zurich officials a glimmer of hope Friday.

Fourteen shots behind at one point in his second round, Rose birdied six of his last 11 holes for a 67 to sit just outside the top 10 at the Zurich Classic – but nine shots behind second-year Tour pro Ben Martin.

“You’re always going to have your good runs and your bad runs, and the leaders haven’t quite had their flat area yet,” Rose said. “That will happen, for sure. That’s just the way the game is. That will allow me the chance to catch up.”

At No. 11 in the world, Rose is the highest-ranked player in the field. After an opening 71, the reigning U.S. Open champion needed to turn on the jets just to make the 36-hole cut.
Now, he’s in position to record his third consecutive top 15 at TPC Louisiana.
“I’ve had to learn to love the course,” he said. “I feel like I’ve figured out how to putt the greens a little better. I’ve had a better time reading them in the last few years.”

Couple of cracking rounds alright apple. Bit unlucky that the morning starters had it so easy. Certainly seems at least a two shot advantage. Hopefully they get the best of it in morning tomorrow.

Great to see Matteo Manassero looks to be starting to rediscover something. Whether its a return to his best, only time will tell, but I hope it is. Very likeable player.

The market doesn't seem to believe yet, so I am prepared to take the chance at 66-1 that he is ready to contend again. He would be very nearly fav form his current score in his pomp. Had few quid on Uihlein aswell.

I'm not usually a fan of backing Thursday 3 ball winners in their Friday bout, as the price can be artificially lower than what it should be, and the dynamics of the 3 ball have changed. But Jonathon Byrd looks an excellent bet to confirm his superiority over Bo Van Pelt and David Lingmerth.

Byrd missed countless short birdie putts last night, and though that will have annoyed him, it showed his long game is serene shape. He cant possibly putt as poorly again. Hopes would not be so high for an improvement from his two opponents. Byrd should be clear fav for this. 2-1 is a very good bet.
