I know that but someone has to put an alternative argument.

I have to use subterfuge to make my point.
Any overt opposition to the referendum results in a swift removal.

In fairness Betfair are free to censor as they wish. Debating on the referendum is hardly going what this platform was intended for nor will it sway any person one way or the other.

The only danger to a Yes vote is complacency. Hopefully the furore will pass and the posturing can cease on both sides soon. It's getting quite tedious.

Its not only Betfair, its every radio station, every paper.

Its dangerous when no differing opinion is allowed.
Its dangerous when one side are forced into silence.
Its dangerous when having a perfect legitimate view is turned into a crime.

Undoubtedly the Yes side will be receiving the populist support from the media. However, there are strict protocols regarding these matters and I would be surprised if the No side isn't getting a fair crack.

To be honest I largely ignore TV + radio for current affairs in favour of select podcasts so maybe you are correct.

The Yes side shouldn't be demonising people for having differing beliefs while much of the No side seem to be banking on the older generations buying into the fallacious nonsense being spread about the impact on "The Family".

I'll be glad when it's all over for one.

If there is spread betting on this there is an opportunity to make money.

Despite all media being in favour I think it will be carried by a small margin.

The Liberal elite will feel good about themselves, pat themselves on the back as their " enlightened " view has prevailed but the people they despise don't think that way and lots who fear being branded will sidle into the polls trying to look like a yes voter but will secretly vote no.

The only way it will be carried by a small margin is if those that think like me (could not give a toss) don't bother to go out and vote - that is quite a possibility though

I too am terrified abut the effect the Quaaarssss will have on families in this country.

Look at places where they have taken over like Sydney, Cape Town and San Francisco.  All families have now fled from theses cities, terrified for their safety and freedom.  The thriving art scene, dance, ballet, museums, vegetarian restaurants etc etc in no way make up for the moral vaccuum that inevitably descends when the Quaaarsss assume power.

What has that to do with Gay marriage.

Surely these places had thriving bustling gay communities prior to them getting married.
Are they even allowed get married now in these cities.

The institution of marriage has been under attack for about fifty years now,it was the cornerstone of our society.
Allowing these fruitless unions masquerade as marriage is silly and the final nail in the coffin of marriage.

The rule of thumb is if you can get a decent double-expresso, skinny soy latte, then all are free to marry.

is it the religious side of it?

I think it will break down society.

The reason for marriage was to make men take care of their children and it worked.
Lots of feckless men worked because they had to provide for their children.

That has been changing of late with disastrous results.
The result is the permanent adolescent,a man who has only one functioning part but doesn't have to provide for anyone, the state does it for him.
Its not all his fault because the state has failed to provide our youth with employment.

I know you will now say I cannot follow a simple thread but what in gods name has this to do with letting homosexuals marry?? Do you think if we vote "no" men won't go around having sex with women (out of wedlock) and then some who will have gotten that women pregnant won't feck off and not provide for the kid?? It's happening now and I would say happened a lot more in the past.

Sounds like your main issue is with the decline of the institution of traditional marriage.

Considering that gay marriage has yet to be been introduced, it is hard to hold it accountable for this decline to date.
By:

Its a fair point.

Things won't change but by downgrading marriage you accelerate the process.

What was wrong with  civil partnership ?
They always want more, always want what they can't have, now it will be a demand for children.
You can all bleat about equality but you can't change nature the fact is a baby can't have two fathers, two men cannot bring a child into this world.

I think it is possible for two Gay men to combine to form a perfectly functional family unit.

I now you scoff at any sort of scientific research-based fact or analysis but here is a collection of insights in this area;

http://journalistsresource.org/studies/society/gender-society/same-sex-marriage-children-well-being-research-roundup

I will quote from one (2013 study from Tufts University, Boston Medical Center);

“Extensive data available from more than 30 years of research reveal that children raised by gay and lesbian parents have demonstrated resilience with regard to social, psychological, and sexual health despite economic and legal disparities and social stigma. Many studies have demonstrated that children’s well-being is affected much more by their relationships with their parents, their parents’ sense of competence and security, and the presence of social and economic support for the family than by the gender or the sexual orientation of their parents. Lack of opportunity for same-gender couples to marry adds to families’ stress, which affects the health and welfare of all household members.”

The worst think that can happen to a child is to be born out of wedlock.

We now have the data, children born to single mothers far more likely to be criminals, far more likely to be involved in drugs, far more likely to be in jail.

Strangely enough it doesn't apply to widows or divorcees its specific to unmarried mothers.

“Meta-Analysis of Developmental Outcomes for Children of Same-Sex and Heterosexual Parents”
2008 metastudy from Michigan State University published in the Journal of GLBT Family Studies.

Findings: “Results confirm previous studies in this current body of literature, suggesting that children raised by same-sex parents fare equally well to children raised by heterosexual parents.”

I was nearly banned for saying this but these gays that are acquiring children tend to be wealthy, that has something to do with it.

It still doesn't change the fact that they are not the parents.

Congratulations Borneo, this really is progress, you relying upon data to make a point rather than your own observations!

A significant moment!

No, but what counts is that they are out-performing the parents.  Which is more important than any label.

are you for real?? most children are born out of wedlock nowadays, the average age for men getting married is 35 and women 32 I think it was, just because a couple is married does not mean their child gets a better upbringing then those born to an unmarried couple

I always combine the two.

Your problem has always been a need for some report to help you, also lots of these reports are biased you actually need a combination of studies.

“Nontraditional Families and Childhood Progress Through School”
2010 research by Stanford University published in Demography.

Findings: “Children of same-sex couples are as likely to make normal progress through school as the children of most other family structures… the advantage of heterosexual married couples is mostly due to their higher socioeconomic status.

^ suggests otherwise.

I thought your point was that same sex parents tend to be higher earners.

Several reports in the link suggest the opposite.

Naturally higher socioecoomic status confers parenting advantages, no one is disputing that.

Apologies I have just realised that your quote is about heterosexual couples.

The reason I misread it is it can't be true.

There is no way heterosexual couples in general come from a higher socioeconomic group than homosexual couples,no chance at all.

Your quote has to be a typo.

Upon reflection, I think it makes sense.

When we talk of the power of the pink pound, it is mainly due to a lack of (expensive) children, rather than high flying careers per se.

A lot of gay and lesbians are confined to lower income jobs.  It can be hard to progress in certain working environments because of stigmas etc.

I don't think your average gay guy (or couple) out earns your average straight guy (or couple).  Remember when children enter the equation, as in the quoted studies, the income of a gay couple is ALSO immediately reduced because of parenting responsibilities (i.e maternity leave or its equivalent).
