Right lads we have a great four days viewing ahead in what is the best golfing tournament of the year, its the type of event the more you look at oddschecker the more guys you want to back, had to draw the line with five against the field,my main bet will be Rory e/w @11/2,6 places,
Selections-Rory Mcllroy 11/2 e/w,will be shocked if Rory not challenging come the weekend,
2nd selection is Patrick Reed 35/1 e/w,the bigger the stage the better this guy plays, remember what he was like in last years Ryders cup,
3rd selection is Tiger Woods 50/1 e/w,how could I not back my sporting hero at theses juicy prices, you never know with Tiger, good solid start and he will be back in the flow,
4th selection is Keegan Bradley e/w 80/1,has been showing abit of form last week, and at the odds feel he's worth an e/w bet,
5th selection is Jonas Blixit 150/1,missed all the bigger prices last week, played some super golf here last year,

Also done a Trixie
Westwwod top Englishman 11/4
Lowry top Irishman w/o Rory 7/4
Jimenez top Senior player 2/1,

Best of luck lads with your selections this week,

Accept that aspect of it Ozy , good weather a big help if it occurs .  But the rest of the world is not in the least bit interested ( thats part of the reason it still appears on the BBC , nobody else wants it , which unfortunately is what the BBC sport legacy has become ).

"World" sporting events should have been ring fenced by successive governments of whatever outlook  , events such as international soccer , rugby , cricket , athletics etc should be available on terrestrial TV as well as more extended ( possibly) coverage set up by the commercial TV providers .

BBC had The Masters last night , coverage was more or less exactly the same as on Sky --I had both on side by side , only slight editorial changes / timings which are largely irrelevant except for those betting on the event . Thats the way all these "national treasure" should be controlled .  Interesting to find out the percentages of viewing audiences last night on The Masters in GB and I .
Report Ozymandius April 12, 2015 10:39 AM BST
Its the one time of the year that world class rowing gets a prime time slot on TV.  I don't think it takes from or displaces any other events in the BBC schedule.

Good late shouts from yourself on this one Callit,(top 10 Rory and Mickleson w/0) Think there is a little meat on the bone on Phils exch price of 2.9 on the latter,it looks a 3 horse race and Hoffman is rightly the "rag".Not being in the final group is imo an advantage for that bet though not sure about outright.

Backed Tiger w/o the top four players @7/2,powers are doing this bet,
Report callitasucit April 12, 2015 1:06 PM BST
Yeah big evening ahead for me on the punting front Pa.

Lot of bets on the edge of being very good, but a bad hole away from realising nothing.

Phil should really nail the place in the outright market, and has a great chance of winning the w/o market. If Jordan stutters, he could lift the loot. On the other side of the coin though, Phil wont be playing for second, he will be firing at flags, and a couple of errant bullets, could cost me dear.

Blixt takes a one shot lead in Top Continental Euro into the final round. A lead that should really be 4, throwing away 3 shots with a DB on 15 yesterday. Again, he has a right chance of clicking that bet, but a poor round may see him not even land the place money even though there is only 4 contenders left in.

Rory and Tiger have a chance of paying out some bit on top 5 and 6 respectively.

Rory should land the top 10 at this stage, but like Phil and Tiger, he will be setting out for a 64. Could go either way.

Could be a very profitable evening, but equally if things go wrong, there could be nothing to collect. I certainly wont be trading out of anything though!
Report Ozymandius April 12, 2015 1:09 PM BST
Damn, meant to place the Blixt bet and didn't!

BUT the last 5 champions did not have the sole lead after any round of the tournament...except Bubba - sole leader after Rd2 last year.

That's especially interesting because - only 10 winners in the history of the Masters - never led after 18, 36 or 54 holes.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan April 12, 2015 3:15 PM BST
The third-round leader or co-leader has won the Masters 41 of 77 times. Angel Cabrera was the last to do so in 2009.

In 78 editions of the Masters, just four players have gone wire-to-wire (with no ties) to win the Green Jacket (Craig Wood, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Raymond Floyd). There hasn't been a wire-to-wire winner at Augusta in 38 years.

Tiger Woods was 21 years, 3 months and 14 days old when he won the Masters in 1997.
Spieth WILL be 20 years, 8 months and 16 days ! On only his second attempt will he go one place better and leave them SPIETHLESS ???
Report Catch Me ifyoucan April 12, 2015 3:23 PM BST
Phil Mickelson is obviously the course horse as is saving his best performances for the biggest stages. While his last two performances the last two years at Augusta have been his worst in his career, his best finish last year came in the final major at Valhalla (solo second). He’s gone back to his putting routine that has given his best results recently so one can be optimistic as he’s racked up 20 weekends in the last 22 starts and 14 have been T10's.

On a course where history matters and where left-handers have won five of the last 11 Masters (Watson and Mike Weir each have one win and
Phil Mickelson has three) - he ticks all the right boxes.

Phil the Trill is 21from23 in ANGC and going for his 4th Green Jacket in the last 12 years in his bid to join Arnie, Jack and Tiger in that elite 4ball - took him 12 attempts to win his first.
Mickelson has 48 rounds under par from his 87 played, with one best score of 65 in Rd.1. way back in '96.
Also add only two rounds of 66 to his six 67's incl. yesterday's round.

Rose was T24 or better in all four Majors last year. T11, T8, T25 & T14 in his last four Masters - THE DREAM IS AMOST OVER - I doubt he slept well last night !

Have seen most of Angelas Ashes before .  There was some outrage at the book when it first came out , twas not fashionable to point out the defects in Irish society and the conditions in which some tried to earn a living and bring up a family .

Some Limerick people I knew and respected told me often that inner city Limerick in that era was exactly as portrayed in the book . Just saw a scene where some "official " was writing out a docket to give to the childrens mother , presumably a line of credit for groceries or the like .  Reminded me of my visits to underpriveleged parts of Belfast when I was a S V de P member at uni . The biggest problem most families had was associated with birth control - not allowed  --. Feeding , clothing and educating an ever expanding  family was a bridge too far for a lot then .

The Masters was low key tonight , little excitement , very little button pushing here . Spieght is a very good addition to the ranks of good young players out there  , it will be interesting to see if he can build on this first Major . Reckon he will .

Rory was not firing on all cylinders , and finished 4th . Overall a good Major , nothing flukey about anyones performance in the top echelon . But Augusta was not like it has been normally , could have been viewed as set up for Rory , but he didn't deliver until today where he looked good .

Have to agree with Pre Fat, Bubba won on the bridle last year, and Jordan never came close to slap of the whip this year. It was as good as over after two holes on Friday.

The kid is a class act. I have long been a fan, and though I wasn't on this week, I'm delighted he done the business. He will win a bucket load of them. He has and always has had a winners attitude. Rory may have more natural talent, but he will never have that killer will to win. You cant buy it. Tiger had it. Jordan has it.
Report Kelly April 13, 2015 11:03 AM BST
One of the best aspects of Speights rise to the top is that he looks likely to be a "world" golfer , rather than an insular no passport type we have seen a fair bit of in the past across that big stretch of water .

Also delighted to see some of the "auld enemy" players finishing well up the order .  Rose has flown the flag well for them over last few years , Casey was up to No 3 in the world a few years ago and it is good to see him back competing . Its good for the game in these isles if there is the prospect of "domestic" competition , might spur Rory on too .

Apart from 3 cylinder Rory our lads were a bit disappointing . Thought Shane would figure better , did not expect Gmac to though , he is way out of form , and his game is not as good as it used to be .  Hopefully  all  our lads will get their batteries recharged for Newcastle in 6 weeks time .

dont know why anyone would bother reading these golf threads, the people posting on them dont have any edge when it comes to golf whatsoever, just
just useless 100/1 or over selections. if i needed these mugs to help win money on golf would be in the poor house, "THEY CANT SEE THE WOOD FROM THE TREES"

does rory and jordan hold all 4 majors nowLaugh
