The cake sales were down in Navan apparently but that doesn't excuse Urano just galloping around having a look.
On his fencing debut in Mallow he made all giving an exhibition of jumping,he was evens the money was down. In Navan he starts well off the pace and ambles around watching the front two get clear,Ruby desultorily pursues them between the last two.
He was well beaten in the end but he was never put into that race.
Three miles on bog ground in a small field around a stiff track is a totally unsuitable test of the horse. Ruby rode the race I expected and the horse hadn't it in him to go after the strong gallopers in front of him. He is also only an adequate jumper.
I get the feeling this thread wouldn't have been started if he wasn't owned by the connections he has.

How do you know, because he certainly wasn't asked.
Having said that you do make some good points.

I know because the horse has run a dozen times and only won two gimme races. He has thrown away a handful of races by not finding anything. It was a bike race in Cork over a shorter trip on a sharper track. He'd have won that if he'd given them a furlong head start.
Ruby rides with his legs. Just because he doesn't hammer a horse doesn't mean he isn't trying. He was squeezing that horse into the race but the horse was paddling very quickly up the straight. I was a place layer of the horse (forgive the aftertiming) and never felt in trouble the whole way barring fallers in front as the race panned out pretty much as expected having seen him run enough times before.

Sometimes fences transform horses,he looked an absolute dodge over hurdles.
I thought he jumped brilliantly in Mallow, thought he was resolute a different horse than the hurdler.
I accept your point about Ruby's riding style indeed its that unhurriedness that makes him a great jockey.

He jumped competently in Cork against a bunch of cattle, it wasn't Sprinter Sacre type jumping though. He was able to dominate the race and won as he pleased.
He was facing proper racehorses (not even stars, just horses that are capable of finishing their races) on Sunday and was shown up for the mid-tier horse that he is. He'll be much better suited running against a fast pace over shorter and could have a life in one of the Irish festival handicaps if he gets a decent mark.
Just on your first post again, the horse was actually quite weak in the market on his chasing debut having slid from 4/6 or thereabouts to 11/10 if I recall and went evens at the off. I suppose the bad word was put out though before the sharks gobbled it up late?
