got 15 days and £3150 fine for use of the cosh.
Report frank60 December 20, 2014 5:01 PM GMT
Condon became the latest big-race winning jockey to pay a high price for breaking the whip rules He was hit with a 15-day suspension and a fine of £3,150 for landing the £84,405 first prize. Twiston-Davies was suspended for four days for using his whip ten times after the last. Seems Davy lost the run of himself.he was quite emotional after the race.
Report CheltenhamRoar December 20, 2014 5:25 PM GMT
im not surprised,he wasn't holding back with the whip,Horses were legless, didn't make pleasant viewing.
Report The Gotchee December 20, 2014 8:14 PM GMT
The whips these days are like feather dusters. No harm done.
Report frank60 December 20, 2014 8:24 PM GMT
feather dusters Gotchee? is that the reason that Davy got 15days and fined 3k......i think not
Report wildmanfromborneo December 20, 2014 8:27 PM GMT
Its a cruel suspension and pure wrong.

Here is a man returning from a serious injury,he fractured nearly all the vertebrae in his back, they thought he would be paralysed.
Poor man is probably skint, the fine alone is savage.

There is a way around this, let the stewards sate their bloodlust by dishing out the savage sentences but let the jockeys carry forward the suspension until he is injured,he can then serve the sentence when he is in hospital or paralysed or dead even.

Can you imagine the frustration of being injured for huge periods of your career and then the rare times you are fully fit the blighters won't let you ride.

Cruel,cruel,cruel and wrong.
Report The Gotchee December 20, 2014 8:27 PM GMT
Yes feather dusters. Have you seen the whips they use these days? They wouldn't hurt a fly.
Report frank60 December 20, 2014 8:36 PM GMT
Theres people better qualified then me to take you on about whips Gotchee, and if Wildman is right about Davys Punishment Why the  cruel suspension[as Wildman calls it] ?Crazy

I have posted very little on here over the years but I felt compelled to post on this thread.  I was delighted to see Davey win that race today and  after such a serious injury, can any of us imagine lying on the ground not being able to move your lower half of your body to think you my be paralysed. In my eyes the stewards should be rewarding him for being able to take part in the race. The fine in my eyes is a complete joke I don't  condone with flaking horses but a good few back handlers won't do any harm. I really hope his career takes off from here, personally I really do think he his a jock with immense talent. So a huge congrats to jockey, trainer, horse and connections.

Thought he was brilliant,he got him to just last home and for someone not fully fit it was some strong ride,if he didn,t do what he did, doubtful he would have won. Went way up in my estimation today. How could he put the whip down after reaching the limit and end up losing the race? Very harsh punishment on the man and is in fact comprimising an athletes natural will to win.

Davy is one of the most underrated jockeys riding , I said to Soapp while walking into Navan last sunday how underused he was ,I was delighted to see him back safe and sound ..A magnificent ride today ,Frank ,The  Gotchee is correct , whips today make a lot of noise and little else , gone are the days when horses came back marked with weals ,if you get a chance pop down to the parade ring after two have battled it out , you will not see a mark on either...Shame he lost that prize money after such a long time out of the game ..He wore his heart on his sleeve today and had tears in his eyes , Today meant a lot to him and to have the glory snatched away like that by the stewards is shameful ...

I looked at the Racing posts comments and they vary a great deal from calling Davy a scumbag to what the Gooch and Wildman stated, it seems there is still a great deal of difference about the rule.
Report workrider December 20, 2014 9:22 PM GMT
Frank , what you must remember is , the British racing press are more worried about the publics opinion , than the brilliant ride Davy gave a very willing partner...

I swear to God - F u c k in British stewards - it goes all the way back to Cahervillahow in the Withbread and probably beyond !  I'd say flog them with the whips but then they wouldn't feel a bleeding thing - Inbred gits

end of rant

Only saw this news a short time ago , out shopping after the racing finished . Effectively Davy will get very little financial reward after todays events have played out , unless presents appear . Considering what he has gone through for the last half year , with only 3 rides since his return , natural justice does not qualify as a comment . Any golfers ever try top class golf after a 6 month layoff  ? . You forget things and procedures   At the end of the race I reckoned he had broken the whip rules , but given the circumstances I have a lot of sympathy for him .

Unfortunately for Davy and the other jockeys , the British Stewards have a lot of people on their case media wise , and they do love fining people and banning jockeys .  I just hope any money they "raise" is used for the good of racing , racing people , and the horse industry .

Condon is one of the top jockeys riding today. When McCoy finishes, this is the man JP should turn to. Can do it on any kind of horse.

Agree Neill , very much underrated...
Report CheltenhamRoar December 21, 2014 4:18 PM GMT
i don't agree with these ridiculous whip rules at all,Much the same way i despise how there killing the Grand National with the modifying of the fences,The whole tradition is totally gone now as far as im concerned,It has now just become your run of the mill long distance handicap chase,It's no longer a test of jumping for a horse, the best stayer wins now,

Anyway thats going off the topic at hand somewhat,As i said i don't agree with the whip rules in the UK at all and we can only be grateful they haven't followed suit in ireland,However,Having watched the ladbroke yesterday with no financial interest,it didn't look particularly good to me Condon bating 7 shades of shíte out of his horse when the horse was visibly legless running up and down on the one spot on the run in,Now i understand Condon had a very willing foe who responded to every smack,But that doesn't make it right,if Bayan wasn't gasping for air on the run in then id have no issue but the horse was clearly knackered which i think is the main reason the stewards acted as severely as they did.

Well he is not underrated by either elliot or meade that's for sure great 2 see a good winner and nice chap  into the bargin
Report neill d December 22, 2014 3:50 AM GMT
He should be the number 1 at Meade's at this stage. If he'd stuck it out in England, I'd say he might have got a big job over there. He's better than any of them at Hobbs, Nicholls or Pipe's place I think.
