Its the personality Kelly. Its the British Sports Personality of the Year Norn.....ya would expect them to be out in force!! Rory looked disgusted. Seemed genuineky surprised at not winning. He just doesn't have Tigers charm  |

It comes from reality shows where they try to influence the result by placing their preferred act in the slot just before the voting lines open. they 'pimp' that candidate.

At least that will scupper any remaining sentiment associated with who Rory plays for in the Olympics , although that is already sorted we believe .
Rory was rightly gobsmacked , but maybe the Irish influence in putting AP and Rory on the winners podium so close together as SPOTY rankles a bit . Wearing a Union flag helps gets votes too . Genuine surprise here though , but no tears shed , its all a bit of a lark since most of us dont watch sport on BBC . Some punters got their fingers burned though I suspect . |

If Northern Ireland had got behind him, Kelly, he would have won easily. They didn't for whatever reason.
Many of us have said it on here before, he is a figure who demands admiration rather than love. |

THERES no accounting for the for public vote, in 2012 Clare won the best team award for the R.T.E irish sports awards;YET the irish boxing team won 4 medals in the London Olympics, they finished ahead of the USA, CHINA,JAPAN,and level with Cuba yet the public voted Clare,

The voting numbers are small. Northern Ireland small as it is, would have walked it, if anyway
commited to the cause. Especially as Hamilton is not that popular himself. |

I don't know how you can be surprised by that result. Hamilton was an obvious candidate. He was 6/1 towards the end of the show which was unbelievable in what was in effect a 2 horse race. He won his championship just over a week ago and is going out with a pop star personality. The voting public love motor racing, thats why Nigel Mansell (twice) Jackie Stewart and Damon Hill have won spoty in recent years. Nick Faldo who I seem to remember was world no. 1 for nearly 2 years eventually won it. Golf is not a sport loved by the voting public.

Hamilton was beaten in this before, as a World Champion, it was no gimme. As was Button when world champion.
Also no golfer had the appeal and profile of Rory, with the added benefit of Ryder cup year. |

heard on some radio show this morning that Rory got approx 125k votes and Hamilton got over 200k. Hard to believe the odds were so far off the mark with a public vote.

Yes interesting Hamilton won by nearly 100,000 votes and Rory was 1.1 on here, no insider trading.

Those voting figures indicate to me that no one is really interested in this . Just wonder who was responsible for Rory hardening in from 1.2 to 1.1 while the phone in was taking place . He drifted back out to 1.21 towards the end .
Rory looked like a very frutrated golfer who sees his putt horseshoe out through 360 degrees when it was announced he had "won " second . |

YES Mordin the vote Compiler in the bbc is a very honest man[or women] or never heared of Betfair mobile. I belive the only way to get sacked straight away as a BBC worker is if you have no T,V. licence.[ how true that is i dont know]

this thread was so funny, all the mugs that bet on rory. lewis hamiltons achievments where more deserving.
not only that 10 X more popular than rory, everyone likes hamilton. golf is one of the biggest turn offs for people. suppose you forgot about the british public (most important variable), you wouldnt really know what they like any way, you know being in ireland. |
