its a surprisingly good betting heat.  don't go near rory at those odds.  hamilton doing v well in all polls.

Rory should walk it by right and may well win, but not at that price.

I pay f*ck all attention to celebrities lives. Is Hamilton married?? Should be shot if he is. He could prob hop up on whatever he wanted.

Rory on the other hand may thank God that he's rich and famous!!

Hamilton won a two horse race with monotonous regularity.

McIlroy had to beat a hundred of the best golfers in the world in his two Majors.

Should be no betting but does either individual care.

I prefer the way Hamilton carries himself to McIlroy (and I've warmed to Rory), he takes things in stride, so for that reason I'd like him to win.

Anyone think Ronnie O'Sullivan might place?

If it is a personality bit, he surely should be. His post match interviews are becoming a bit of a highlight for me. "I was gone" last week v Trump.

On our own shores and in light of last night's events, watch out for Andy Lee on the 'personality' front in this coming year. The guy is a great talker and by a million miles the best ambassador the travelling community have ever or will ever have.

His next opponent is highly likely to give him the height of personal abuse, that is his form anyway, and I'm looking forward to see how Lee handles it, there could be some great moments.

One thing I'm not looking forward to is the likes of Pavee Point and Des Cahill crawling all over him.

I don't know if we do a version of Sports Personalitry, the production is probably **** and nobody knows when it is on if we do.

Too true Norn, he has become very gracious in both defeat and victory as well Callit. I don't think he would have appreciated someone like Selby very much a few years ago. He and Trump should provide some good entertainment in the next few years.

I have yet to warn to Trump Neill. Think he is too thick to fully fulfil his potential. I had him backed at 40s for the WC when he was beaten in final by Higgins. I may feel differently about him had he won that! He certainly should have.

Lovely story Norn, not sure is Calz with the girl any more, I hear he is a bit of a man-about-town. You should look her up!

Reading the other threads callit, it appears Judd's head went a bit in that final early on and he was hitting the ball way too hard, when all was lost and the tension went, then he was better. He'd want to clean up his safety play as well. Ronnie misseed a few he never normally would so it might have been as much the champ letting too much off the gas.

I think I've read some stuff about Trump disrespecting inferiors in the early rounds of tournaments some time back. That was his first proper final since 2011 so it might have taken a few corners off him.

It comes from reality shows where they try to influence the result by placing their preferred act in the slot just before the voting lines open.  they 'pimp' that candidate.
Report Kelly December 14, 2014 10:41 PM GMT
At least that will scupper any remaining sentiment associated with who Rory plays for in the Olympics , although that is already sorted we believe .

Rory was rightly gobsmacked , but maybe the Irish influence in putting AP and Rory on the winners podium so close together as SPOTY rankles a bit . Wearing a Union flag helps gets votes too .

Genuine surprise here though , but no tears shed , its all a bit of a lark since most of us dont watch sport on BBC . Some punters got their fingers burned though I suspect .

If Northern Ireland had got behind him, Kelly, he would have won easily.  They didn't for whatever reason.

Many of us have said it on here before, he is a figure who demands admiration rather than love.

The voting numbers are small.  Northern Ireland small as it is, would have walked it, if anyway
commited to the cause.

Especially as Hamilton is not that popular himself.
Report The Gotchee December 14, 2014 11:03 PM GMT
I don't know how you can be surprised by that result. Hamilton was an obvious candidate. He was 6/1 towards the end of the show which was unbelievable in what was in effect a 2 horse race. He won his championship just over a week ago and is going out with a pop star personality. The voting public love  motor racing, thats why Nigel Mansell (twice) Jackie Stewart and Damon Hill have won spoty in recent years. Nick Faldo who I seem to remember was world no. 1 for nearly 2 years eventually won it. Golf is not a sport loved by the voting public.

Hamilton was beaten in this before, as a World Champion, it was no gimme.  As was Button when world champion.

Also no golfer had the appeal and profile of Rory, with the added benefit of Ryder cup year.
Report the jolly December 15, 2014 3:15 PM GMT
heard on some radio show this morning that Rory got approx 125k votes and Hamilton got over 200k.  Hard to believe the odds were so far off the mark with a public vote.
Report Mordin. December 15, 2014 4:55 PM GMT
Yes interesting Hamilton won by nearly 100,000 votes and Rory was 1.1 on here, no insider trading.
Report Kelly December 15, 2014 5:21 PM GMT
Those voting figures indicate to me that no one is really interested in this . Just wonder who was responsible for Rory hardening in from 1.2 to 1.1 while the phone in was taking place . He drifted back out to 1.21 towards the end .

Rory looked like a very frutrated golfer who sees his putt horseshoe out through 360 degrees when it was announced he had "won " second .

not only that 10 X more popular than rory, everyone likes hamilton. golf is one of the biggest turn offs
for people. suppose you forgot about the british public (most important variable), you wouldnt really know what they like any way, you know being in ireland.
