He should never have divulged his tax practices to his gardner imo.

Was he not quoted to complain that western corporations in Africa were wrong to use tax evasion techniques ?,
Bit hypocritical if he did don't you think Ozzy or is it reasonable to adopt a "Do as I say not as I do" philosophy and still remain a credible spokesperson ? |

Stick up the so-called quote, gut feelig , and will be happy to discuss it. Am not aware of it.

The quote is...."All those big companies don’t pay taxes in Africa. That is just not acceptable,” he said. “People need to stand on that issue. Frankly, the whole taxation system around the world is really broken because business gone global but our taxation system is still country-based and then countries compete.”
|
|
By:
ok, I agree, you can see that as hypocritical.
The fact remains though, he doesn't dictate where U2 pays their tax and you can see by the quote above that he has problems with aspects of it. Furthermore, unlike some Companies who would have large projects in specific African countries, U2 do not derive significant income from Africa. |

By:
I'd say he has no problem at all with the tax schemes he sought out or at least his accounts we're asked to seek once Ireland set a cap on performers incomes, To suggest he doesn't dictate to his management team on finding him the best possible place to accumulate wealth is as well you know wrong but It was a valiant attempt to save him.
Anyhow there's more to the man than sunglasses and some good tunes, He'll always divide opinion that's for certain. Be good Ozzy and see you another day ![]() |

Excuse typo was eating my dinner. |

You accept that he has 20% shares in the Company and therefore 20% of the say where the Company pays tax?
|

Of course he is but 1/5th of the wheel but Larry Mullen summed it up best by saying "only in the classic Greek sense that a democracy is in the hands of those in power. If you are in a band with someone as loud, talkative, argumentative and persuasive as Bono, things can be kind of difficult for the rest of us.” when talking of the bands move to Live nation management last year.
His voice and weight of persona counts for a lot in all "Joint" decisions it seems. |
|
By:
agreed, on several creative matters, but when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets its a different matter. I cant see Larry not having his tuppence worth on that!
|
|
By:
I'd agree on that much despite his quote which paints a different picture (Cheap shot to use it against you but was enjoying myself and saw no harm in it
), When it comes to money even mice can sound like men in my experience, Getting daggers from missus so must turn this laptop off, Once again be good Ozzy, It's been fun. |

I think he probably tripped himself up on the remark about Companies not paying Tax in Africa, and regrets it as it does leave himself open to charges of hypocrisy. It certainly isn't a stance he has laboured beyond that one isolated remark.
