The Official World Golf Ranking calculator will take care of what Adam Scott could not over the past few months.

The Australian will rise to No. 1 in the world after this week’s Byron Nelson Championship – regardless of what transpires in Irving, Texas.

Scott controlled his own destiny and had chances to overtake Woods at No. 1 at Doral, Bay Hill, Augusta and TPC Sawgrass, but each time he came up short. If Scott’s divisor didn’t drop from 42 to 41 after this week, his world ranking would still be lower than Woods’.

According to Golf Channel world-rankings guru Alan Robison, No. 4 Matt Kuchar would need 53 points to pass Scott this week. Last year, the winner of the Nelson received only 40 points.

As for the post-Players OWGR report, winner Martin Kaymer soared from No. 61 to No. 28. The former world No. 1 (for eight weeks, in 2011) ended last year at No. 39 in the rankings. Runner-up Jim Furyk climbed two more spots, to No. 12, while Sergio Garcia (solo third) and Jordan Spieth (T-4) flip-flopped the Nos. 7 and 8 spots.

After another missed cut, Phil Mickelson dropped out of the top 10 in the world. Now No. 11, it is his first time outside the top 10 since last March.

Here is the top 20 in the world heading into the Byron Nelson Championship:
1. Tiger Woods
2. Adam Scott
3. Henrik Stenson
4. Bubba Watson
5. Matt Kuchar

6. Jason Day
7. Sergio Garcia
8. Jordan Spieth
9. Justin Rose
10. Rory McIlroy

11. Phil Mickelson
12. Jim Furyk
13. Zach Johnson
14. Dustin Johnson
15. Steve Stricker

16. Graeme McDowell
17. Jimmy Walker
18. Charl Schwartzel
19. Luke Donald
20. Jason Dufner

IRVING, Texas – Before Jordan Spieth took the golf world by storm, before Patrick Reed won three times, before Harris English and Russell Henley and Seung-yul Noh were all claiming trophies in their early-20s, Patrick Cantlay was the one to watch. Well, one of the ones, at least.

This week, he will make his first start since last September in a return from injury, teeing it up in the field at the Byron Nelson Championship.
“Feels good,” Cantlay, 22, said after a Tuesday practice round. “Back to normal.” For those who don’t remember, Cantlay’s normal is pretty special.

Let’s review:
He was the world’s No. 1-ranked amateur golfer for more than a year; he won the Haskins, Nicklaus and Mickelson awards as a freshman at UCLA; he finished top-25 in his first four PGA Tour starts as an amateur; he was low am at both the U.S. Open and Masters; and he shot a 60 – yes, a 60! – at the Travelers Championship.

“I was really proud of the way I played in the last event in Indiana,” he explained. “I was hurt and kind of bummed out, but I got my card in that one tournament.
I don’t know if that’s my biggest accomplishment, but it’s definitely my most satisfying.
Even though I finished in second place and it sucked to lose, it was good considering I was hurt and didn’t feel my best.”

In the time since he’s been away, the game’s most elite level has been overflowing with young, fearless players on the cusp of superstardom.

“It just shows that there’s a lot of young guys who are capable of playing well and winning and having success,” he said. “Before I was hurt, I was playing with them all the time, so if anything it makes me feel better and gives me more confidence going forward. All of those guys are my peers and they’re having success, so that’s great to see.”

Jamie Mulligan, his instructor since he was 7 years old, understands that the 22-year-old still has time on his side.
“We’re trying to look at this thing as macro as we can,” he continued.
"We don’t want him to be a good player for a little amount of time. We want him to be a great player for a long time.”

Following his tournament here in Texas, Cantlay plans to move to Jupiter, Fla., next week, the first time he’ll be away from his native California.
As Mulligan knows, it’s all part of growing up – and every young player has to do that at some point.

Cantlay has seen many of his peers grow into the role of budding superstar in the past year or two.
He was once on that track. Now that he’s healthy, there’s no reason to think he won’t once again join them in that pursuit.

Looking forward to him having a good comeback - 420/470 on here - just a large nibble then, tks.

Interesting first days, with scoring being quite tough in both events.

Impressed again by Kaymer, recovering from bogey on 17, by bouncing straight back with a closing birdie. If Leishman could have even one above average day on the greens, he could take beating.

Bradley has managed to grind his way back into alright, very congested leaderboard.

I backed Charles Howell at 40s near the end of his first round, not to win as much as the others, as full stake wasn't accepted, but gives me an extra arrow.

Hopefully conditions stay tough, as none of Leishman, Howell or Hoffman are birdie machines, but are very efficient at making pars at tough holes. Kaymers class edge can also be increased the tougher it gets.

Sergio looked drained yesterday, so can only hope he will come out fresher this morning. Lack of sleep was muted as explanation after flying home relatively late.  Or maybe just a few too many senoritas sitting on his shaftWink

Hoffman big price at 19 later. I know he doubled the last last night, but could prove a blessing. Out of the limelight of last couple of groups, and is clearly very comfortable on the course. 12 under could be good enough. He shot 66 on Fri, and should have done again yesterday, only for his aberation on the last.

Hopefully Jimenez wins first!!

For the third time Miguel Angel Jimenez on Sunday broke his own record as the oldest winner in European Tour history....

....winning the Spanish Open for the first time in 27 appearances.

At 50 years and 133 days, he topped the record he set last December at the Hong Kong Open (49 years, 337 days).
The Spaniard has been playing in his country’s national Open since 1983.
It’s already been a memorable month for Jimenez, who finished fourth at the Masters, won in his Champions Tour debut a week later, and remarried the following week.

Jimenez began the final round two shots off the lead, but his closing 73 was enough to get into a three-man playoff with 2012 NCAA champion Thomas Pieters (75) and left-hander Richard Green (72). Pieters and Green made bogey-5 on the first playoff hole, while Jimenez got up and down from the back of the green for his 21st career European Tour title.

Marc Leishman (born 24 October 1983) is an Australian professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour.
In 2009 he won the Rookie of the Year award on the PGA Tour. He was the first Australian to win the award.

Leishman was born in Warrnambool, Victoria. He had a very successful amateur career in Australia, winning many junior tournaments. He won the Warrnambool Club Championship as a 13-year old while playing in the same group as his father. In 2001 he won the Victorian Junior Masters, the South Australian Junior Masters and was the Victorian Boys champion.

He turned professional in 2005. He played on the Von Nida Tour in 2006, winning two tournaments and topping the order of merit. In 2007, he played his rookie season on the Nationwide Tour finishing 92nd on the money list. He won his maiden title on the Nationwide Tour in 2008 at the WNB Golf Classic by a record-equaling (with Chris Smith) eleven shots.[1] He finished the year 19th on the money list to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2009 season.

Leishman was voted the Rookie of the Year in 2009 after recording three top-10 finishes, which included a runner-up finish behind Tiger Woods at the BMW Championship, the third of the four FedEx Cup playoff events. Leishman subsequently qualified for the season ending Tour Championship. He ended the year 53rd on the money list. He recorded his second runner-up finish of his PGA Tour career at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2010. He finished inside the top 100 on the money list in both 2010 and 2011. He reached the BMW Championship in both seasons.

Leishman won his first tournament after 96 starts on the PGA Tour in June 2012 at the Travelers Championship, coming from six strokes back of the 54 hole leaders to win by a stroke.[2] He shot a final round of 62, which included eight birdies and no bogeys to match his career best round and second best comeback in the tournament's history. He became the second Australian to win the event after Greg Norman in 1995.

At the 2013 Masters Tournament, Leishman was the co-leader after the opening round, alongside Sergio García, as he shot a six under total of 66.
He maintained his challenge over the second and third rounds to go into the final day two strokes behind the leaders.
He finished T-4 with Tiger Woods, four shots off the lead.
