This is a long weekend and the weather so far is great, yet any visitors to our shores are locked out of every public house for the entire day. I know there is plenty of other things to do when you arrive here for a few days, but to cut off this source of revenue is madness.
I know many of these tourists are a pain and sit over a glass for about an hour, but they are still customers on stools, residents in hotels, bus ticket purchasers, restaurant eaters etc.

Its beyond belief we are still ruled by such senseless laws. Spend millions upon million on the tourist trade, and then discourage them from coming on a potentially lucrative weekend, by enforcing a law put upon us by a crew who should have spent more time obeying important laws than worrying about public houses opening on a 'Good Friday'.

if you look at the composition of this Dail, mostly ex teachers, the 2 best qualified ministers for their port folios are Reilly in health and Shatter in Justice. Now neither come across as punter friendly in the media, however I have no doubt whatsoever they would be way ahead of the game in their knowledge and awareness of their specific briefs than any other TD in the Dail irrespective of party. Because both have decided upon reform, they are getting a hugely negative press and a key reason for this, is vested interests in both departments don't like their cushy nests being ruffled and prefer the status quo.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Reillys dutch like universal health plan could work....to get it into play it was explained to me recently, many individuals and companies that will lose out....to the states benefit....and these potential losers will throw all sorts of muck to defend their nests....with an ageing population something has to be done about health...the other political parties have no plans...so at the end of the day, an individual with a brass neck like Reilly might just be what the doctor ordered to sort out Angola and drive through the idea.

Shatter is a league apart from any other TD in legal acumen.....dull as dishwater but efficient at getting legislation through.....yet for weeks the Dail has been boring the pants off us with the penalty points issue, an old chestnut that has gone on for years...a wee perk of the trade for guards....I thought there were far more important issues that effect the lifestyles of citizens than a hullaballoo about penalty points and whistle blowers.

the alternative to the current political parties is independents....elect enough of them and whats happens...you in effect give the civil service total control.

The greatest problem the Irish have is a lack of ambition fuelled to an extent by substance abuse.

The majority's lifetime ambition is to be approved for a mortgage,why would you want to borrow capital to acquire a non-income yielding asset? Wahoo I can borrow 300k to repay the bank 550k over 25 years.

Why not have some belief and invest in an income yielding asset or at least give some thought to the capital appreciation exceeding the annual cost.
