I don't begrudge the man at all mitch......but I don't feel sorry for him if things don't go the way they should.....I think his pig headidness will get him the results that it deserves......I don't like the stance he took with Philip Fenton though.....
As for Mullins.....hes a cocky thing without the ability to back it up...... |

I think Newland improved the horse so doubt if he kept it with Fenton we would be talking about the National winner.

Wallace is spot on.....it more than likely wouldn't have won because it may not have run.....and its really unlikely that little Dan would have won on it......saying all that why would somebody with such money feel the need to sell a horse in the full of his health for a mere pittance....he gave away Cullentry Royal as well.....

On the racing post today......he has plenty trainers he should be taking horses from......in fact a good share of trainers he uses are rubbish.....Fenton isn't one of them......
Barry surrounds himself with sub standard operators......jockeys trainers advisers.....so nothing he does is a surprise..... |

The biggest surprise is that you waste your time telling a anonymous forum what a man who couldn't give two figs what you think all what you believe he does wrong, I doubt he'll sleep well tonight, Ever considered channeling your energies into something more productive as we see your opinions here as regular as clockwork and you never have a good word for anyone, It's sad to see someone so bitter maintaining a interest in something he can't ever change. Find a new hobby as this one will be the death of you if you don't learn to enjoy it for what it is and accept that your thoughts will never change one single part of it.

I don't agree with you gutfeeling......I know for certain that plenty within the game regularly read threads on here.....many will agree with many of my sentiments......not all of them but more than most will admit.....
Thing is gut.....I don't use this place to make friends.....don't try and tip horses....don't use smiley faces and booms like plenty of the regulars.....I don't see any harm with highlighting failings be they equine or human.....likewise I can recognise greatness as fast as anybody......just because I think someone is a mongrel doesn't make me bitter.....just because I think a jockey or a trainer is substandard doesn't make me bitter...... Maybe you don't agree with my sentiments regarding Connell and that's your prerogative.....but I know that many will even though they wont put their username to it.....and ok my thoughts may never change anything......but that doesn't make them incorrect.....in fact id imagine I'd know a lot more about the game than Connell.....that wouldn't be too hard......and ok he may not lose any sleep over it.....but neither will I.... |

The racing media can be more than a little fawning (they have to be, or else none of the trainers or jocks would speak to them) and Paulie is at times a welcome antedote to that.

The two lads at the Curragh today are top class, though. Gary O'Brien seems to get far more out of his interviewee than the typical C4 interview. Weld in particular seems to give him plenty of time where he gives others short shrift. We got the complete story there on that Curragh maiden winner to the point of when he started working, what they thought of him and then him going a little weak and having to be left for a while. That is good stuff.

Agree Gary O Brien and Kevin Blake......are two excellent performers......id go as far to say they particularly O Brien is too good for ATR.....and as pundits go Blake is excellent also.....it makes a change from Mick Fitz talking through his hole every time he's on.....

After, Arkle but I don't mind that so much, Stacks wouldn't say much before as you know but O'Brien got everything he could from Fozzy.
Paulie, I used to always watch Irish Racing on terrestrial but I don't anymore. RTE should definitely incorporate Gary in some way. I could see the future being O'Brien, Blake and Ruby Walsh after Ted and Robert Hall go. Not sure how ATR would work that but they should be giving Irish Racing pride of place with all the good English tracks going and a co-production with RTE might be the way to go for them with the smaller meetings behind the red maybe. |

Ruby is going to train it seems, but he seems to have a large media profile being involved with Paddy Power, Racing UK, The Examiner and a few more. He will keep that going you'd think and the national broadcaster (who he already has worked for too) would look the natural step. Ted at least might be more willing to step aside. Anyway, if he is interested, you'd think the fellas in Montrose would demand him given who he is.

Looks like changes are afoot with Barry and his team.......somebody had to get the axe after all the lack of success......by all accounts a change has been made.....and the replacement is somebody with no experience either.....the mind boggles but nothing would surprise me with Barry....

I suppose it was inevitable but my sympathy is with Danny Mullins.
The poor fellow was kind of hounded here but can't see much future for him now. Tony Mullins has few horses and his stable seems to be a satellite for Willie. Mags Mullins has some horses I suppose that's who he will ride for. Does Barry Connell really need a retained jockey,thought it might be handier to just let the stable jockey ride. |

I don't think he needs a retained jockey also..but if he wants one..for the life of me I don't understand why hes gone with this lad..hes ok..but ffs..you want the best..i would of thought he,d of got davy for the season..then maybe appoint a younger kid next season..by that I mean take his time to find the right one?

Tbf i don't think any of the big boys would have any interest been stable jockey to Connell,He's a million miles behind the likes of Jp,Ricci,Gigginstown etc,What would interest them?

They all have their pilots though Chelt. BOC may not have a string of championship horses, but has some good ones, and his purchase of Our Conor suggests he is keen to get himself a champion. He just needs a shrewder eye to buy them.
He seems to want a younger pilot, maybe looking long term, but I would agree with Tony that a filler or 'stop gap' like Russell would have served a purpose. For both of them. Davy isn't going to get any them big jobs mentioned, now or in the future, so I could think of worse ways to spend his year?? Whatever people think of Davy, he is not only a top pilot, but also a shrewd judge, and may have helped BOC in his pursuit of the correct purchases. |
