just read ruby not riding on the insistence of boss willie mullins.
thats ok then paul townend and others can go out and get broke up before cheltenham and its alright!

Sounds like good common sense to me.  Who wants to see Ruby miss the festival because of a tumble on some nag?
Report Fayzer March 8, 2014 9:28 AM GMT
I wouldn't imagine shefflin would go out and hurl with the junior team a couple of days before the all-ireland final....willie has a lot on the line next week, I think it's prudent and makes sense

This has been a regular occurrence in recent years, Ruby sitting out the w/end, but the thing is Ozy Ruby could have a nasty fall in the first at Cheltenham and be out for the rest of the festival, can happen any time anywhere.

talk about stating the obvious silvergreaser.......the measures taken ensure that he does in fact make the first at Cheltenham......

McCoy not riding Sunday or Monday - his  kid in hospital for an operation.

'I would probably have taken the days off to freshen up for Cheltenham anyway.'AP

No brainer for the top jocks who are on the top horses to try and do themselves, owners, trainers, punters and viewers justice. Long 4 days barring mishaps
Report silvergreaser March 8, 2014 11:44 AM GMT
They're jump jockeys for heavens sake, there going on like overpaid soccer stars, and if the horse is good enough it will win if not it won't win.

townend won seven grade 1s on the fly.

If its not the trainer treating their horses like precious china dolls such is the vast quantities of cotton wool been used in their quest for Cheltenham glory, suddenly we have this relatively new phenomenon of certain precious jockeys wrapping themselves up in cotton wool.

I need not remind you of the dangers of the Cheltenham festival, we all remember Jt McNamara?, and its the festival which seems to have a more than average spate of horse fatalities because of the big fences, big fields and the sometimes cracking pace they go.

All top sports people want to arrive on the big stage in tip top shape.
The days of hiding injury and getting to the start half full of drink are gone..........for 99% anyway.
A jockey minding himself for big days is not a new fad.

SILVER  FOOTBALLERS GET rested FOR BIG GAMES I THINK WAS VERY RESPONSIBLE AS HE RIDING LOT FAVS AND EVERYONE WANTS SEE THE BEST JOCKEYS RIDING AND GANT IS 100%

ID LAY RUBY FOR TOP JOCKEY  AS FANCY BARRY G   WIN IT  AN MY REASON FOR LAYING RUBY THINK THE MULLINS HORSE (BAR THE FLY) HAVE LOT EASY WINS AND EVERYTHING WILL BE TRYING BIGTIME AT CHELT

THINK CHAMP FEVER BE RUBY ON WINNER Mischief

Norn and Gant this is jump racing not **** football, take a look at who is riding at Naas today all the top jocks apart from Ruby even Barry is riding.

Jamie Moore is riding tomorrow ahead of potentially the biggest win of his career on Sire de Grugy.

Jump racing is jump racing and you can have a career ending or a sideline injury at anytime, and to me Cheltenham is much more dangerous than anywhere else on the jumping calender.

Over the last 3 festivals Ruby has failed to get around on 10 occasions, once brought down the other 9 either falls or unseats not to mention the host of horses he has ridden over those 3 festivals that were pulled up.

Thats an average of 3 falls per the last 3 festivals (3 of those in the Gold Cup), so just because Ruby is on board doesn't mean that he's going to make a huge difference to your chances, of course if he wins on a host of fancied horses it will be Ruby Ruby Ruby, Willie Willie Willie and the poor horse who actually won the race because he was most likely the best horse in the race will hardly get a look in as the tri colour is draped around the human participants who are only really the bit players at jump racings sacred cow.

SG IF SAY YOU OWNED  3 FAV THIS WEEK TRAINED FOR BIGGEST £ IN THERE CAREER SURELY YOU BE GLAD RUBY OR ANY TOP JOC  RESTED FROM POSS INJURY ON A DODGY RIDE   TO GIVE THE OWNER/TRAINOR BEST CHANCE ?

PS I CANT RUBY OR MULLINS RIGHT WHEN I HAVE DECEDNT BET ON HORSE SO IM NOT HAVING A GO AT YOU  I JUST THINK ITS  GOOD COMMON SENSE !

I THINK THE  POLICY OF DRAPING ANY FLAG AROUND WINNERS ITS LITTLE SILLY AN CAN LEAD TO HORSE GOING BESERK IN WINNERS ENCLOSURE  AS THEY NOT USED TO IT  ( WE HAVE THAT MANY UP HERE ITS A JOKE )

PPS JAMIE MOORE WONT WIN ON SIRE DE GRUGY  LAY OF THE WEEKHappy
Report silvergreaser March 9, 2014 10:44 AM GMT
Norn I'd book Adrian Heskin for them a hugely underrated jock who deserves bigger opportunities.

Not sure about Sire De Grugy myself but his rivals are hardly vintage.
