Another great week of golf ahead of us this week,starting tomorrow just a reminder lads,few of the big guns given this a miss,starting with two e/w selections for the outright,1st selection is a player who's been knocking on the door the last few weeks finishing runner up the last two events,Dustin Johnson,he should be going into this event full of confidence with his solid play the few weeks,could be playing Bubba if they both win their 1st matches,that will be some game between the two big hitting players,2nd selection is Jason Day a player who only seems to bother performing on the big stage,finished 3rd here last year knocking out a few big guns,this type of format seems to really suit his type of play,seems to have the easy part of the booby jones bracket aswell,

In defence of Rory tonight , the other guy played very well to get the nod over the line after being passed at the furlong pole . Gmac you just knew would always hang in there , he is some battler .
Not too worried about Rory's demise , he played a lot of good shots out there , something he didn't do much last year . His putting was OK too ( what we saw anyway , did not miss any sitters ). Seems to have regained a bit more control with his irons distance wise . I am happy to back him to trade again , something I didn't do last year .
Some great matches tonight , quite a few down the 19th .

Think how much you would have made laying Tiger for every Major since 2008 , Wildman .

Timing is everything , Wildman . For about 6 or 7 years I was a backer of Tiger , at shortish prices , averaging about 3/1 , sometimes in Majors . Since he hurt his knee I have avoided backing him generally , even to trade . Rory was brilliant for trading for about 3 years , but last year he did not look the part . Think he might be getting back into more positive mode from what I have seen in last few outings .
Personally, I just don't think matchplay 'does it' for Rory. I wouldn't worry about his early exit this week. Masters time is when he wants to peak, and he is coming along just nicely.
G Mac prob let off the hook a bit yesterday, didn't see much golf tonight, so not sure if Matsuyama gave him a helping hand. G Mac a dangerman now though. Would have preferred to see the back of him, and Day. Sorry Huddys!!

Slightly uncertain due to conceded holes, but these are the scores that I have for the second round;

Obviously some of these scores are not through 18 holes. In addition there were a few eagles which would only count as winning a hole but are 2 under in these scores.
Some shocking winning scores likes Els, which was obvious from the match and Coetzee which I was not aware of.
Horschel played a lot worse than Day 1 and made it much easier than he should have for Day who was +2 through 10 holes.

Sergio will cop a lot of criticism for offering Fowler a half on the 7th . Listened to Sergio being interviewed , know where he was coming from as there was a lot of messing going on at that hole due to bees nesting just short of green . Are bees a protected species ? OK in hives , but living out on the approach fringe of a green ?

Unless he blows up tomorrow Spieth should take care of Ernie 4&3 or better. Ernie has played dire and as you say, has just been blessed to meet players well below their best.

Can see Fowler getting back to the play from Thursday and getting away from Furyk early. Furyk is +3 for the first 7 holes on the week and can't keep getting away with starts like that.

Kelly, I suggest you check the putts again if you think Sergio's was 10 feet away... more like 4.
Didn't see Sergio's ball before he marked it , El Guerrouj , thought what looked like his marker was a fair bit away . The shorter his putt the more advantage he gave up obviously . The media are always looking for stories , they made a big thing out of it , it was no big deal for me as it happened , just wondered what had transpired prior to Sergios suggestion they halved it . Pity Sir Nick didn't offer Graham Marsh a half that day at Wentworth , Sergio would have .

Surprised that Furyk is fav to beat Fowler . Oosty is creeping along nice and quietly , hopefully his return to form continues . Long term fancy for Open for me if his form holds up .

Disappointing Gmac exits , but Duboisson played very tight over the last few holes , fair play to him .
Overall the SP's of the remaining 4 were 24, 100 , 120 , 150 approx . Day the only one who could be termed a fancy . Shows how difficult it is to pick winners . Best of luck those who have Day , cant believe many had interest in the other 3 .
Good geographical spread , Aussie , South African , French and USA , cosmopolitan grouping .

I dont like the lad, and to be honest i think he is one of the most over rated golfers out there, but i have backed Jason Day at 7-4 to win from here. I wouldnt think he is really over priced, but would like an interest in it tomorrow, so may as well weigh in with Huddys and NA. Fowler is probably his only danger, as its very hard to see Dubuisson troubling him in final, and Els surely cant win two more matches playing the way he is??

Backed Dubiusson at 4-5. Its his to lose the way Els is playing, and he stood up well to G Mac last night. Even a cat only has so many lives, surely Ernie has used all his.
Programme on sky sports 4 now just started about Seve Ballesteros should be good viewing.
Nice call with Dubiusson some match taught he hadn't a chance at one stage,hopefully the nerves get to win later and Day can get the job done,
Yeah, but needs to sharpen up. Debuisson is pretty dogged. Day probably expected to win, more pressure. And he is not great under pressure.

Final has been very sub standard so far... the coverage even more so. Even with only 2 matches to cover it's poor. Why bother with 'consolation' match and then not show anything.
That some shot from Day. If he holes the putt, and halves the hole, it should be over.
Day has really held out well when he's needed to this week.... seems to be making majority of the pressure putts.

Im not complaining, but why in the name of Jesus did Dubuisson not make Day putt there? He has limited chances left, that was a glimmer.

Waxing lyrical about the bunker shot,......he had huge margin for error there.
Done at 1.02. I have said before he has discovered many and varied ways to lose,.....this would be one of his best!!

If Day was a mediocre player who finishd 25th each week, no one would label him a choker. Because he has the talent to regularly contend, his failure to win is seen as choking. Still very young, he has accrued huge experiece by contending so often. If he does start to convert more, you could be looking a a multiple Major winner very very soon.

I know what you're saying Oz. I just said something similar to someone, in summing him up. I don't like losers, in fact I hate them! Jason Day has huge talent, and a talent that should have seen him win a lot more. A bad player in any sport, can fluke a big win. They have less pressure on them, aren't expected to hole the winning putt/pot/goal etc. Joe Johnson, Dennis Taylor, Michael Campbell, Greece etc.
But when you are blessed with a rare talent, you shouldn't be wasting it. Its why I love Tiger so much. He was the epitomy of 'winner' for so long. In my mind, he still is.

jeez...he is only 26..how on earth can you compare him to Jimmy White, Ingerlund, Lee Westwood etc..unbelievably unfair comparison.
I will put him there til he proves otherwise Oz. I have a funny feeling he wont. Fair enough, Victor is having some luck to keep this going, but Day should have it well killed off. Like a lot of tournaments he has finished second or third in.

He is skirting bunkers off his drives, playing miracle shots out of the desert is certainly one the luckiest players I have seen.

Some of the best viewing we have had for a while , not just the final , lots of other good matches this week .
WD Huddys & NA. Outright was disappointing for myself this week, but matches were profitable, and Day got me a few diluted quid there, so not bad week overall. It was certainly a more entertaining matchplay Sunday than normal.
Huddys, I will lay you 13-2 on Tiger and Huddys! Quality line up, serious strength in depth. Say Tiger 8s, Rory 11s. Maybe more on a first show. Hopefully they quicker than normal to price it up tomorrow. PGA markets been very slow lately.

I agree with callit that Day should prob win more often, but to be fair, there aren't very many of the top echelon who I trust in the mix.... especially the younger breed. Fair enough the likes of DJ/Simpson/Watney/Haas/Kuch/Watson have won a few more times than Day, but I still wouldn't be massively confident on any of them in contention. Truth is, it's bloody hard to win and apart from Tiger and maybe Mickelson (in latter years) and Zach, not many of the top players find it easy. Because Day is so consistent, it's highlighted more how hard he finds it.
It always feels better getting paid by the bookies Call,you might not agree with this but I think that win for Day could be the making of him,well done newapproach aswell,
It could be, it certainly would have been a huge blow for him to lose. Look at Jimmy Walker, he has completely transformed after his win. I remain a doubter about Day though. And this week will keep him underpriced for awhile.

Thanks lads, it was some rollercoster ride to the finish but he got the job done. It was the first time I've seen much of Dubusision and I thought he was very impressive,he seems a cool customer under pressure.

I know you were correctly very sweet on See Double You (I presume you backed him with cash in the offices while your bank on here was made redundant by your ongoing lay)but SDU was trading at a much bigger price on here early doors than he was in the offices, so you were forced to take a shorter price?
Perhaps your win stake was also reduced by your all in lay?
I hope you were gradually laying Ernie or else your bank has shrunk by 3 bar since Rory.
I assume you were watching the market closely on here on Saturday and didn't let your Buddy's winner go unbacked?

I only laid Els for small money at the big price,I went all in after he beat Speith on the fatigue basis mainly.
A horse I hated some years back was Recital and I made the mistake you referred to on him by tying up all my money in the ante post market.
The money See Double You was trading for was tiny here anyway so I backed him for cash,I also backed Debuisson to beat Els for cash.
