Shocking, shocking prices indeed Silver and for the self proclaimed "worlds biggest bookmaker" to offer them is laughable, totally agree with your post.

perhaps it was considered defamatory?

As far as I know bookmakers are perfectly entitled to offer whatever odds they want. Not sure why it upsets people. We are not obliged to consume.

You can,t escape the truth which is what you said, tis i suppose a bit defamatory against the company and shows them in a very bad light in regards the absolute stingyness of their prices which they are offering.
By:

I said they were the pits thats all, which is the truth and everybody calls them Ladcrooks as they call Boyles Spoilsports, how can you justify 5/4 on Big Bucks when its readily available at 9/4, as far as I'm concerned that price is an insult and they should be shamed for it.

And to compound the insulting price on BB they're also shortest on the 2nd and 3rd fav in the race.

silver it looks like they dont want to lay racing but have to be seen to be participating....could,nt have said it better myself, all 3 top irish bookmakers odds are a joke ..best to leave the cheltenham anti/post on the top 4 races alone.
By:

Kav, you might have a point, but I've noticed a trend with them as regards Mullins hot pots they're always much shorter than all the other bookmakers and they're the same with the O'Brien hot pots or anything that might be a shade of odds on with other bookmakers they would be much much shorter, like they're limiting their liabilities on potential short price multiples?.

But its not as if they give you value on the other runners their books are usually shockingly over-round, avoid at all costs.

Powers might not be the flavour of the month with some on here but in comparison with Ladcrooks and Spoils they're almost charitable.

To say we are not obliged to consume is technically correct but it is a far too simplistic a viewpoint. Many people who bet at Cheltenham only bet at the big meetings and would not be au fait with the way the ante post markets work. This type of punter is not price sensitive and will take the 5/4 Big Bucks without realising that he is 9/4 200 yards down the road.
If you factor in those who won't realise that its NRNB and fail to collect on the NR's you will see the obscene margin this firm is operating at on these markets.

It is preying on the naive and deserves highlighting at every opportunity to show how dispicable this firm are..robbery without a mask.

thanks fellas - so after all that its the 27th thank you Dannyboy

boyles - 9 days
betpack -6 days
powers - 14 days-
hills - 17 days (could have went longer but started to hit put in stuff @1000 a pop - went on referral took 10 mins to get 50quid on then - my last proper bet with them i wanted 5g on 8/13 shot  - got 800 online after through referral  -got another 200 on phone- price change 3/10Grin
ladbrokes - 9 days
5dimes.eu - put on 30 sec delay whcich stops plentu of my stuff but still able to get on bets - prob up like 20g in 2 months

in all fairness.....its a hard game for the bookies these days.....all the punters are clever.....they all win.....even on betfair.....where by its very nature there has to be winners and losers.....not a bit of it.....again all the punters win....when they win....they win.....and when they lose.....they greened out.....
so all in all its not hard to see why the bookies run scared of people like kerrygold.....as he says himself.....some of the stuff he throws at them is very rough.....
Punters nowadays are a different breed.....if they were running the country.....there wouldn't be a man unemployed.....and everybody would be earning 5k a week.....because these people are winners....they do it right.....

DJ876,Rocketfingers and Kingrat three of the most disciplined professionals around.

If DJ876 were to sell us his staking plan we could all be professional too, bank control bank management is more than half the job according to himself.

These gentlemen are so professional they have managed to eliminate all risk, they lock in profit on all their bets.

We await the book.

The carrots are 99c a kg at Tesco today whereas Dunnes have them at 69c!  The b@stards!  Its's a disgrace!  And there they are making themselves out to be big fellows in the Media, telling us that every little helps...

Now it's not us shrewdies I am worried about, its the innocent housewife, the occasional carrot shopper, that is being taken advantage of.

It get's worse I know a lad who is a Pro Shoplifter.  The fifth time they caught him, they restricted him for re-entering their stores.  B@stards!

Wildmanfromborneo,aka The Jagerbomb Kid

How can you even jest about discipline on here when after 50 years of punting, you still have the habits of an 18 year old novice in a betting shop for the first time?

You point to the buzz  of risking a full bank on a well thought out selection-What do you know about golf that the market hasn't factored in?You may as well be playing on a roulette machine, results are irrelevant because you will be all in again within a week.

Then you point to the motivation of working hard to recoup your stake (while contemplating where you went wrong) and the repeat the exact same mistakes that you have been making for 50 years.
By:

" what do you know about golf that the market hasn't factored in "

You could put racing or any other sport in that statement of DJ876,to me its a ludicrous defeatist comment.

You couldn't bet on anything on that basis, every angle is covered its all factored in.

This ludicrous statement is not only wrong with regards betting with a bookmaker but doubly wrong in this case as the bet is on here into a no profit book and its me against some other punter.

A few years back Aidan OBrien had a horse called Recital,I thought he was a hound of the highest order, posted words to that effect and was asked did I think I knew more than Aidan OBrien,I replied I didn't think so but in this instance time will prove me right.

One final point,I enjoy gambling I am not a professional but have been enjoying my punting for fifty years, the fact I am still doing it is testament to the fact I haven't done too badly.

Wildmanfromborneo,
Are you a proponent of Eugene Fama's EMH?It lacks any credibility because it implies that stock returns follow a Gaussian distribution.Although it could be argued that Betfair markets could attain perfect efficiency because of a 100% book and a definitive finish,I doubt this is what you are suggesting?

Although you're correct in stating that the majority of variables are already factored in to a price, there is surely a subjective nature to the extent of their importance?

Your example is a perfect illustration of the point I was attempting to make. You need to have a high level of knowledge in a sport to be able to identify where you have an edge and consistently identify where you believe there is a deviation between the actual probability and the odds being offered. I find it difficult to believe that your knowledge of golf would allow you this opportunity against full-time experts who can pinpoint the vagaries of different golf courses that suit different types of players etc etc

However it could be possible that your knowledge of racing would allow you an edge on the market as illustrated by your example of recital who you rightly identified as being temper-mental.

As for your earlier reference to me stating "that Bank roll management is more than half the job"-this is a miss-representation,I implied that the selection process is one of many contributing factors including bankroll management, staking methods, discipline etc.
I am sure that you would agree that one being knowledgeable on racing doesn't necessarily lead to being a profitable punter?

To suggest that my mind is stunted is bizarre when I believe that everything is constantly evolving and you either adapt or get left behind,I would suggest that you should be more open minded with your approach on here because your all in staking method lacks even a semblance of credibility.
By:

There are many golf experts on here,I am not one of them.

Pa Lapsy ,Huddys,Deplasterer and Callitasucit have shown up the other sport experts with their consistent winnings but that doesn't preclude me from having an opinion on a certain player.
I laid him at a little over evens and would have loved to harden my bet when he was trading at 1.50 for decent stuff,I would love to harden my bet now as he is amazingly still favourite but can't.

Your first paragraph is unintelligible to me but  I think it was supposed to be.

Your final comment about things constantly evolving is self evident but has it ever dawned upon you that I am happy backing my way with a bit of instinct and a bit of judgement.
By:

There is one of them in a league of their own in terms of consistency on the golfing threads,he uses an extremely rigid(and plausible) staking method which I have noticed you haven't commented on?It's fairly obvious to whom I am referring  but I will leave it you to gush praise on other posters.

It doesn't preclude you from having an opinion but why the heck would you go all in (crazy to be doing it on anything by the way) on something where you recognise that your knowledge is limited? Stating your stake on an anonymous forum is also bizarre.

You will probably be surprised but I genuinely wish you all the best with the bet.

As a matter of interest did the 2 Hotels in Thurles sell at the end of January,I believe that they were both for sale by public auction?
By:
wildmanfromborneo

You are quick enough to list my losers which you have now done three times, where's the harm in acknowledging the winning selections of others.

The golf forumites seem the most successful to this untrained eye,I haven't done a scientific study but Pa Lapsy tipped a 110 winner in the past,Huddys had an 80/1 winner recently,I am hopeful a fifty to one winner will wing its way home tomorrow.

You may think stating your stake is bizarre but my bets are real bets that I can verify, lots on here don't bet at all.

I actually live an hour away from Thurles in the Northernmost part of Tipperary so don't know the answer to the hotel question,I hope Hayes Hotel is saved as not alone is it a fine hotel but its history should be a cause of pride to all Tipperary men.

The golf boys seem to do well, fair play.  i am fascinated to see callits running totals to see if this impression is borne out over time.

It appears to be just a case of looking at course form, current form and picking out a few of the higher priced ones that fit those criteria. (I know this from my stellar performance in the golf competition on here Wink)

Then again if it was that easy, why isn't every one doing it. Maybe we should be?

What worries me about the golf boys on here, anytime they go big i.e 10 points, they never seem to win. (I could be wrong on this that's just my impression). Which lead me to think that the outcome is as much down to luck (having followed the selection criteria above) rather than judgement.

To put it another way, they are making no more than educated guesses.  Perhaps that's all any sports gambling is but it seems especially true to golf. No matter, I suppose, when a profit is turned.

I think you're being a bit harsh there Ozy in fairness but I don't know the first thing about Golf.

You can be accused of a lot on here but at least you remain objective and don't let your posts to be determined by what other posters have stated on the thread.

The political structure of the Irish forum is its main downfall, too much playing the ball rather than the man ala Kenny-"we inherited it from Fianna Fail"etc

She was a dreadful selection alright although it was more given in passing than anything else.

Willie Mullins is very negative ground wise in today's post about Pink Hat wouldn't like to bet odds on Chancol scouring for an outsider but can't find one, will leave alone.

My bet tomorrow will be Hairy OMalley in the bumper,it looks a match opposing Willie Mullins in bumpers is generally a bad idea but Bosman Rule is slow.
The snag with Hairy OMalley is the owner and trainer,he has three right runs in bumpers and whilst at first glance some might think he is going back,he is not as the bumpers he ran got progressively better.
I love Naas as a bumper track and his run there has improved with time,Shaneshill is Mullins best chance in Cheltenham, the runner up ran some race in England afterwards.
If I knew what the Roches were thinking I would probably go all in.       Again.

You are right about the forum being far too political btw.

It's a joke.  For example, for all Borneo's worth as a forumite, he does come out with some complete nonsense at times.  Ad yet Dad's Army won't call him out on it.  I don't know if its because;

a)  they are a similar age and thus have been shaped by similar cultural factors so think in lockstep

OR

b)  he praise them so often and goes out of his way to regurgitate their winning selections that they are too flattered to risk upsetting that flow of compliments

OR

c) they feel safe and cosseted as part of a tribe wherin they know they will get support on issues even if they are in the wrong.

And another thing!

I fully accept why I get flak on here. I grossly offend the Republicans, the ne'r do wells and the illiterates.  Taken together that's a large posse.  Add in anyone who has ever met Nice Guy Wonks at the races, and the crowd swells further. Grand.  I deserve it.

But, why does the likes of DJ take flak when all he is doing is telling it like he sees it and backing up his points in a smart fashion?  On matters directly related to gambling more often than not.

Dj's attacks were never personal in the first place.  People didn't like to be called out on various errors or mistakes or mis-assumptions, he was not afraid to do that.

THEY retaliated in a personal fashion, hence the deterioration of the exchanges.  Even still his rebutals are largely not personal.

Richters,it's an absolute joke but then again our whole political structure is a farce. It was soul destroying that there wasn't any tangible political reform after the last election. The most irksome part is that some of the younger politicians are extremely capable but are led by the old dogs such as Kenny and Hogan.

I recently finished a very interesting book called the price of power by Pat Leahy which highlighted the through decision makers are the political advisers-these should be directly elected rather than the current political charade.

We are repeating the exact same mistakes again building an unsustainable economy which is built on the sand,if anyone tells you that they're working for Facebook, google, twitter etc in Dublin-the truth is that not one of the new tech companies employs one single engineer.Anyone that understands Okun's law  will also realise the charade that the current government is participating in presenting inaccurate statistics because a 4% cumulative economic growth should generally translate to a 1% reduction in unemployment.
