Shane Donohue reported to BHA

Bloody hell combustible this sounds extremely interesting.

I am surprised it is not a bigger story. I guess the BHA will give him a lengthy ban as they will assume he had something to hide

I suppose at the moment its not a story as such but with the trainer reported to the BHA suggests something might yet come out?.

IRISH trainer Shane Donohoe was reported to the stewards of the BHA for failing to give permission to be searched at Wolverhampton last night and, as a result, his runner Star Links was withdrawn from the 7f handicap.

It appears security staff approached Donohoe in the racecourse stables in what was described as "an ongoing integrity issue involving Mr Donohoe and the horse Star Links" by stipendiary steward Greg Pearson.

The incident concerns rule 48.1.7, which states that the BHA may conduct a search of any person present on licensed premises and take samples or custody of any article or material found on such persons.

Pearson said: "We requested Mr Donohoe to come to the stewards' room so that a search could be carried out. He refused to give the stewards permission to search him and therefore the horse was withdrawn by order of the stewards for him failing to comply with the rule.

"Therefore a report on the matter will be forwarded to the BHA."

When asked if the stewards were acting on a tip-off regarding the matter, Pearson declined to comment.

Star Links has raced at Wolverhampton twice in the last two months, winning in November and finishing fifth last month.

They have to ban him otherwise everyone will do the same and refuse to be searched

A ban won't really effect him mrcombustible as he's based in Ireland just means he wont have runners in Britain, but it does sound like something really sleazy is at work here?, if we ever find out?.

The ban would be reciprocated by all the racing authorities

SIlver surely the ban will transfer automatically as say with jockeys. Or perhaps its different for trainers.

Well it doesn't always work that way combustible, John Egan was allowed to ride in Britain and Ireland yet currently he's still officially a fugitive from justice in Hong Kong, why didn't he go back if he was innocent?, surely if you're innoent you've nothing to worry about?.

Currently you have the situation with Martin Dwyer involving India and UK but UK and Ireland automatically reciprocate

I think with Egan that the HK authorities wanted to question him and he refused to return so he was never actually disqualified so no ban in place.
Take Butler's recent ban, he could not train in any country that reciprocates bans.

Fergal Lynch has served his ban in UK but cannot ride there as they will not licence him though he can ride in Ireland as there is no ban in place just a refusal to allow him to ride in UK

Well either way guys we won't expect a Paul Kimmage David Walsh type of investigation into this murky story from the mute racing media, probably won't even be reported, just like the time two stable employees of Tony Martins were caught in the saddling area of Newmarket with a banned substance with the means to administer, move on nothing to see here....

I presume he would be charged with failing to co-operate with an authorised person. The penalty can be a ban of between 1 month and 3 years with an recommended starting point of 3 months

A)49         Failure to co-operate with any authorised person    £2,000 or Suspend / Withdraw / Disqualify
3 months    £1,000 - £5,000
1 month - 3 years   


TRAINERS Tony Martin and Jim Best found themselves in trouble with the Newmarket stewards on Saturday after being found guilty of a breach of instruction C7 – which governs restrictions on substances administered to racecourses.




Martin was fined £1,500 and Best £1,000 after two members of stable security staff found employees of the trainers in attendance with Leg Spinner and Gee Dee Nen in possession of prohibited substances.   

Stipendiary steward William Nunneley said: "Both trainers said they knew the rules but prohibited substances had accidentally been taken into the stabling area by their staff.

"In Martin's case it was quite a serious substance, one with a local anaesthetic affect, but there was no suggestion they were going to be used."

i suppose it they were used and the horse won wouldnt it show up in the sample which is taken from every winning horse.

The thing is mrcombustible the racing post gives a little footnote to the original statement from the BHA yet not one racing journalist would dare follow up on the story, we all know why!.

A racing journalist will only report what you've already seen with your own eyes. Headline, "Bobsworth wins Lexus", really???
