Yeah gant but she would be a pretty good yardstick to gauge the ability of your better ones, so Glens Melody's comprehensive defeat yesterday has left Willie much to ponder over?.

Just to add this, the 3 C.Hurdles won by Istabraq where poor contests in my opinion the opposition where not proper 2m hurdlers at all. By a long way the strongest Champion Hurdle races were back in the 70`s 80`s very competitive with so many having an equal chance.
Yes Istabraq was a proper champion in his time, but by along way there where better quality horses running against each other. |

I doubt he needs to send anything on fact finding missions.I'd say what he has at home will do that for him.

He hasn't got the English horses at home Tolmi so by running against the the English will give him a good gauge as to how his better horses compare.
Glens Melody might not be one of his best but he brought some decent form to the table, but the manner of his defeat suggests the English might have a pretty strong hand this year in the staying division?. More of That won cosily and looks a bright prospect, granted the French challenger was hugely disappointing, surely he's much better than that even allowing for the ground conditions, he was extremely weak in the betting and ran accordingly. |

Glens Melody is a mare who has limited opportunities here with better mares in the stable.I think its mainly mares he has sent to England so far as he has too many for the mares races here.I doubt he has any interest in fact finding missions.

Those who check how low a horse went in running should note that they are not always right.
Having laid Golden Ticket at 3.35 before the race, I got cold feet as they turned into the straight and backed it back at the best I could get which was 2.44. As soon as the bet was struck the horse dropped back like a stone LOL!! Looking at the betfair sp's today I notice it said it went as low as 2.5 during the race which is obviously wrong. Take the lowest in running price as a guide rather than fact I say. Not a bad crowd down there at all with Michael O'Leary in attendance having a great chat wtih Noel Meade and his brother Eddie after one of the later races. Maybe another non runner coup was being plotted. Only joking.  |

Great to see Jennies Jewel win a decent pot for small time connections today. See really is a very consistant mare and got the reward today. Shows the NH season can produce good stories. Unfortunately having backed her last 3 runs deserted her today-I enjoyed it though and well done to connections. Thanks Santry. They don't come much smaller, David v Goilath would look like a fairly even fight compared to the likes of us against the might of O'Leary Ricci and McManus  Unlucky that you missed out yesterday, to be honest with the extra bit of depth of quality in the race and a few other things we were probably a bit less hopeful than we had been, particularly in Naas. I was very impressed with McCarthy yesterday the way he adapted cleverly to the way the race played out, he's a smart lad and deserves more opportunities than he gets. Delighted too for Jarlath and his family, he's done a great job with the mare, no messing about and hes always in tune with her, he understands the game and has a real shrewd eye for where the opportunities are but always with the first thought to the mare's wellbeing. That was one of the great days that make all the rest of them worthwhile. She's some game mare, long may it last! |

You,re obviously involved with her Fishin Joella and congratulations on a nice pot which was well deserved for her consistency, great ride indeed i agree and he kicked well after being so prominent,slightly different tactics which really suited her. Best of luck in the future with her. |

Ah now, its not that many years ago, probably about 15, you're making me feel old! I do have a vague memory of some derisory offers coming in but she was never really for sale

I saw Fishin Joella easily win a bumper for unraced horses at Leopardstown over Christmas and she followed up by winning the bumper at Gowran on Thyestes day. Can't remember her hurdling exploits but I dont think she ever truly fulfilled the promise of those early wins. Nice broodmare to have now though.
On Jennies Jewel,it appears to me the 2.5 miles on a stiff track suits her well. Sure to get a decent hike now and will be rated one of the best race mares in the country. Graded races will probably be on the agenda. Best of luck with her. That day at Naas I was convinced she'd won and was ready to collect a nice bet at 12/1. She got her reward on Sunday. |

How lucky was that for the odds on bettors.Royal Caviar got tossed out of the bumper in Navan after a successful appeal by the Crawfords at the Turf Club.Surprised myself.
