Who are the 3 most notorious aftertimers as a matter of interest?
Report tobywong. December 11, 2013 10:28 PM GMT
workrider is number 1 without any doubt!
Report paulie wallnuts December 11, 2013 10:28 PM GMT
haven't been in tramore for years.....a kip of a place......no man should bet there.....
Report wildmanfromborneo December 11, 2013 10:29 PM GMT
I named two in the opening post, the other is a toss up between Roadrunner and Ozymandius but as Ozymandius only after times on soccer and rugby he is out.

At first glance Wicklow Gold looks a massive lay, what do you think Snap?
Report wildmanfromborneo December 11, 2013 10:31 PM GMT
Tobywong finding the opening post too long, didnt even notice is own name.

Paulie we are only asking you for an opinion, you don't have to bet.
Report paulie wallnuts December 11, 2013 10:34 PM GMT
out of interest Wildman......how do you make Wicklow gold a massive lay.....its unpenalised.....ruby riding.....coming on the back of an eyecatching 4th in a race which is working out well......is a good jumper.....with the best trainer.....and running against pure Shiite......
name one horse that you fancy to beat it......
Report tobywong. December 11, 2013 10:35 PM GMT
I am on here the bones of 10 years , if you can locate 3 examples of aftertiming by me I will donate €100 to the tyone homeless centre in Tipperary so you can have your xmas dinner on me!!

What you need Borneo is a good cleaning of your pipes.

Would the District Nurse not pass by and give you a tug?
Report snap crackle and pop December 11, 2013 10:37 PM GMT
Wicklow Gold certainly doesn't look a massive lay to me anyway. If it is an anyway backable price at all in the morning I will be backing it for certain, he will struggle to fall into a weaker maiden than this
Report kingrat December 11, 2013 10:43 PM GMT
captain mainwaring and his troops have been nobbled!Laugh
Report wildmanfromborneo December 11, 2013 10:44 PM GMT
He is odds on,I don't need to nominate one to beat him.

He is not quite Champagne Agent but when Willie Mullins couldn't get him to win a bumper ( he managed with the other beast ) he is no good,is running on a tight track might not suit,he didnt seem to like Kilbeggan.
You see Ruby Walsh as a plus normally I would agree but not so sure around Tramore, its a track for young jockeys.
Report paulie wallnuts December 11, 2013 10:51 PM GMT
Wildman......you are not well this evening......im not sure that you aren't  taking the pisss out of me here......
ruby walsh not being a plus is a good start.....the fact he didn't win a bumper is a help here.....he has no penalty.....he was happy enough in clonmel.....and that isn't exactly a galloping track......and in mullins terms he is no good but look at the opposition......and just because he is odds on.....doesn't mean you don't have to fancy anything to beat him.....
Report limestone lad December 11, 2013 11:08 PM GMT
Well I am going to back three tomorrow at tramore them being

Indian outlook won nicely at sligo tight track like tramore

pals leg like the way this horse travels and if jumps well think it could win the beginners chase

Tidy zag won well at the weekend and well in

Good luck with your punting
Report silvergreaser December 11, 2013 11:53 PM GMT
Wicklow Lad might be one of the worst in the Mullins stable but he couldn't have found a weaker race than this, personally I'd have it around 1/6 to win against that muck tomorrow.

The one I like is Getoutwhenyoucan 2.05, another weak contest, this horse has been 4th twice in better company and the drop in trip should suit, if this horse is going to win a race it won't get a better opportunity than this.

If there is going to one to upset Mullins in the first it has to be Sunday Serenade, both ran in the same listed bumper at Cheltenham last time and only 1&1/2Ls separated them.

I also like Gold Patrol 1.35 and Springinherstep for Henderson at Huntingdon.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 12, 2013 7:31 AM GMT
Hurricane Fly wouldn't be sixes on round Tramore.

Ye seem to forget this is a dangerous frightening track, you want a handy horse and a young fearless jockey.

Of all Irish racecourses this is the one where course form is vital.

How many horses have slipped up coming down that hill.
Report Bigwillystyle December 12, 2013 9:54 AM GMT
No offense Silver but that is why ure a mug.  Hope you punt it good style if you make it a 1/6 chance.  Im with Wildman on the lay.  Something always turns up to beat these type of horses.  Think top horse is the one myself.  If he runs same races as last time he will be at least placed.

pa..can I ask your opinion on the mullins runner in the 1st?..i mean the betting patterns..drifted like a barge just before and @the off..someone knew that supreme horse was not going to win?
Report pa lapsy December 12, 2013 5:57 PM GMT
Tony can,t really comment as was doing something else at the time and came back 1/2 way through the race, haven,t looked at it again but at the time it looked a very negative ride i thought, the sp return say he went from 5/6 to 11/10 so you may well be right,he rode the winner in the next the complete opposite but that mightn,t mean anything.
Report silvergreaser December 12, 2013 6:06 PM GMT

pa..i know a guy who watches the exs and he called me to tell me @the off it went out to 6/1?..now that horse was backed like defeat was out the question for a listed bumper @Cheltenham 9/2 -15/8..yet 2-3 runners today were 100 /1 travelled better..deffo a smell imo..
Report pa lapsy December 12, 2013 6:19 PM GMT
Can,t see why she,d go out to 6/1 to be honest tony, she didn,t get away great but won,t warrant 6/1, not saying your buddy is wrong either, looked at the race again and it looked a "very poor" ride, she was way too far back though she made a mistake at the 2nd and jumped the 4th high,Ruby flapped his arms along the back straight alright but she was in an impossible position,be fuming if i backed her, never had a chance of winning.

agree it was a shocking effort from ruby.....given she made an early mistake but wasnt of a yard, sunday serenade was nearly 5 lengths behind her on the flat at chelt and 7 and a quarter ahead of her today.

Can I first give an impression of Rocketfingers.

Well juderinos when the Wildman decides to lay an odds shot its because his formula worked out Wicklow Gold was an 11/8 shot,us pros know this game is all about value,I had just finished my power nap watched my blonde girlfriend stagger across the room, know what I mean nudge nudge,I really am some ladies man,lo and behold there is Wicklow Gold trading at 2.44 this is wrong I say so like a chimera I become a backer of Wicklow Gold.
That's how the pros do it.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 12, 2013 8:27 PM GMT
Unfortunately the truth is I did lay Wicklow Gold and averaged odds on.

Paulie Wallnuts called it right in every way,he jumped like a buck and never looked in any danger.

Sadly my contribution to this thread was dreadful considering some of the other fine efforts,an old friend Limestone Lad was in hot shot friends, others will remember him as the guy who put it up to Kingrat and sent him scurrying.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 12, 2013 8:28 PM GMT
Should be               hot shot form.
Report paulie wallnuts December 12, 2013 8:58 PM GMT
wildmanfromborneo......believe me when I take no satisfaction in  being correct in this instance......I myself didn't really fancy it either.......certainly not enough to back it.....but there is a difference between that and making it a lay.....which I did not.....as you well know laying is hard.....laid one myself today...... tidy zag and you know what happened there.....
now im no genius..... far from it in fact......but when it comes to laying.....here are a few things I try to do.....and even at that I break my own rules regularly.....
1. try not to bother laying walsh..mullins..Henderson...geraghty...aidan o brien...them kind of fellas....if ya are patient ya will get the chance to lay the paul nolans....francis martin berry......Jessica....danny mullins.....mouse morris....them kind of people....
2. never lay favs in maiden hurdles.....
3. the shorter the flat race and the longer the jumps race is always in the layers favour.....
4. any amateur rider races increase the chances of a turn up.....
5. and I think its always advisable to fancy at least one horse to beat your lay......I think ive laid quevega 5 years in a row....without ever fancying anything in particular to beat her......
6. mares races can be hard to predict also.....although trainers like mullins seem to be able to keep them in form continually.....
Report wildmanfromborneo December 12, 2013 9:09 PM GMT
I am a poor layer would hate to tot up my losses laying.

An impressive list of guidelines,I used have two others.
Always try and lay in bumpers that exceed two miles
Conditions races on the flat because they are generally all trying.

Tony57 Supreme Bailerina drifted alarmingly, jumped the first big and then ballooned the second he was at least 6/1 at that stage, your pal did see that price just probably didnt realise the race was off.
Report kavvie December 12, 2013 9:12 PM GMT
good points paulie..i agree re finding at least two you think can beat the one yer laying...id say an added rule is the dreaded chasing..turn it off.tomoro isnt long coming around..another thing i ind works laying is to lay yokes going for 3 in a row in handicaps.it takes a fair one to win 2 handicaps in a row much less 3..and they are usually short
Report paulie wallnuts December 12, 2013 9:17 PM GMT
Wildman.....nobody and I mean nobody ever won laying one horse in a race on a regular basis.....I know of a few people far better than you or me at this game.....who have lost their balls over the years.....laying one horse in a race......
Report workrider December 12, 2013 9:30 PM GMT
Interesting points been made , I think laying is the hardest game of the lot , while it might appear easy money , you can be sure the discipline needed to succeed is huge ..I believe what we call ill discipline raises its head more often in laying than backing ...
Report wildmanfromborneo December 12, 2013 9:32 PM GMT
I know what you are saying is true but I just can't work out why.

I am an infrequent layer because of the losses but would have thought the lads working off the marked cards would win but they seem to get caught in the end.

In our hearts of hearts we know there will only be one winner, especially when they have a vested interest to helping the robots.
Report kavvie December 12, 2013 9:48 PM GMT
glad we all agree on that..workrider can vouch for a source i was getting laying info from and it still didnt work..im still temptd by the handicapper going for 3 in a row or the  maiden winner in its first handicap trading at odds on..discipline is hard to keep though..its the weakness.
Report workrider December 12, 2013 9:54 PM GMT
Kavvie , the greatest weapon we have is discipline , yet time after time we revert to been greedy , hence our constant loss ....
Report pa lapsy December 12, 2013 10:49 PM GMT

If that was McCoy, people would still be filling their Calvin's over it Shocked a truly outstanding performance Cool
Report kingkauto December 12, 2013 11:05 PM GMT
I have the following rules for laying:
You need a solid reason why the horse will lose, one or more of ground, trip, trainer, penalised in a novice race, horse is a pig etc.
The main point is you need to have at least 3 horses that you think will beat it

Even then its hard to make any profit...

Wicklow Gold was a pure dodgepot today that you could easily have seen losing, but befor you lay you need to have something (or 3) to beat it and there was  nothing you could fancy more in the race.
Report pa lapsy December 12, 2013 11:13 PM GMT
Didn,t mean anything untoward "in regard getting much right in the racing" in the above post by the way, happens each and all frequently and nature of the beast.
Best Jock around is B G, mind he probably had the best horse in the race as well, just seemed to outstay the rest imo. fair enough The Brave but either the shades are in admiration or a subtle aftertime i,m not sure.

Yes, when contemplating a lay it is advisable to feel you have two or three running for you, but occasionally such considerations go right out of the window, and when you see an odds on poke from somewhere like Mick Channon, Nicky Richards, Wee Dandy, Braveheart, and so on, the lure of the lay button is just phuckin overwhelming Grin Tongue Out
