Keeps popping up , the use of substances to boost performance . First evidence I came across ( my own eyes) involved horses trained by 2 trainers in England . First one had sprinters mainly who transferred from other yards , couldn't stay 5 furlongs on a downhill track with the wind behind them , running away from fields subsequently in competitive handicaps . Substances came from OZ as I recall .
Second one involved a high profile NH trainer whose horses improved by huge amounts , often involving front running which up to then had been not associated with the stable .
Olympic stuff then surfaced , along with blood "recycling" , then the cyclists surfaced big time , now we are waiting for Jamaican information .
With USA horses able to be administered substances banned in most other jurisdictions , Aussie horses able to partake of substances not allowed in UK , Ireland or Europe the questions arise increasingly .
I watch rugby every week , unreal physical specimens and development . Cornflakes for breakfast ?
When we see "unbelievable" improvements or records , can we believe they were achieved without "help " ?
I agree with Kelly......most things out of the ordinary are done with help.....I know of a 60 year old man from North Tipp....whos knocking spots off a quare wan in his local boozer.....he needs the help of a blue tablet.....and the help of his buddies to keep watch.....in case her husband turns up at the pub.....

Paulie , takes enough medication to have the kind of information the BHA would give their right hand for , from viagra , to powdering his nose , hope you understand that one Paulie . In fact he's the King when it comes to understanding the effects of drugs....

Kelly,Ozymandius is not being sarcastic he just didnt understand the post.
Butler to him means some imaginary worker that Pater employed.
He hasn't heard of Gerard Butler or the main racing news of the day hence the smart Alec post.

Kelly must be despairing?, he started a thread looking for opinions on the subject matter and within seconds the thread was hijacked by the usual suspects.
FWIW Kelly I've an extremely suspicious nature, I've always believed if something looks too good to be true it usually is.
In athletics I'm inclined to accept that the vast majority are at it away from competition.
Rugby has a reputation as been squeaky clean but I agree with you when you look at todays rugby players compared to say the players of the 80's they look like monsters in comparison, surely its not all just pumping iron?.
I believe horse racing is awash with illegal substances mostly used out of competition, but compared to other sports if a trainers horse tests positive they're usually just given a slap on the wrist fine, but in other sports if you test positive long bans are the norm.
I see no difference in a human injecting a dumb animal to a human injecting himself, both are trying to gain an unfair advantage but treated as a mere misdemeanor by one regulatory body while the other treats it as a serious breech of their rules and dish out the appropriate punishment.

Not despairing , silver . One of the reasons I started the thread is that I have "Seven Deadly Sins" by David Walsh sitting on my desk , and thought there might be some aspects of the "drug" scene in sport which would add to the reading / interest in that publication .
Worldwide the racing fraternity have embraced the "veterinary" route . I read many years ago that the thoroughbred horse has plateaud as a developing species in the 1930's according to timimgs etc . Guess mankind never accepts fact ( if its true ) . I dont think horses ( maybe Frankel excepted in recent times ) run any / much faster than they used to despite changes in training and so called "advances" in scientific matters .
Nobody has got near Flojos records either in athletics ( womens ) and we know about her . How many other records are fuelled by strange breakfasts ?
But the rugby players are getting bigger by the week .

It got too a point, several years ago that players became too bulked up, mobilty suffered and the injury count increased as joints couldn't cope with the extra weight.
Targets were reassessed and players bulked right down.
The genuine big men in world rugby now tend to be South Sea islanders, genetically they have greater capacity to maintain mobility whilst carrying bulk. Flip side is they have a very short life expectancy.

Rocketfingers........At least people still come to watch it. Your sport lost it all years ago. I see the IRFU have vowed not to let grassroots rugby in Ireland slip.
