Going to have a good bet on Up and Go here at around the 7-2 mark. He was the best of these over hurdles, with limited chances, and would have had plenty of scope off his current mark to go and win a good handicap, if getting his favoured soft ground. The fact he is sent straight over fences shows McCain thinks(which looks highly likely) that he will make an even better chaser. He disappointed only once last year, but was on a track that didn't suit, on ground that doesn't suit, and in any case he was probably over the top by then anyway. Black Thunder is fav, but he looked pretty exposed as a 140 horse over timber, and although impressing when winning well on chase debut, he has often looked good against moderate opposition, but then failed to take a step up against a tougher calibre of rival. Many Clouds was very easily disposed of by Up and Go last year, and I see no reason for a reversal. Shotgun Paddy may prove the main danger, and looks the type to progress over fences, but he will need to. He was limited as a hurdler, and if you take out Just A Par, who was very disappointing, he beat **** all on his chase debut. Though admittedly very impressively. Obviously taking it on trust that McCain has him ready for his seasonal debut, but at 7-2, and getting 5lb from all his rivals, he has the potential to run these ragged, and i'm in!!

Have backed him for the RSA at fancy prices with a long time now, unbelievable potential. Lack of a run tomorrow a worry but def one to keep on side, could be anything over the bigger obstacles. Should get a handy lead tomorrow, best of luck.
I was at Lemonfield the day it won its point to point Calli .... The Tullow Tank was supposed to be "gone by " and this fella slammed it by 15 lengths .... I posted a thread about this time last year on him and followed him . I really think chasing through the winter months will be his game . Can t get it soft enough ( a bog the day in lemonfield ) so would be worried about Chelt/aintee mushroom if it didn t come up soft ....
Only negatives for me are starting him off in a competitive novice chase and not a beginners and also i have copied and pasted Donald McCains comments re about today where he says he can be hard to get fit .

I've made no secret that I think a good deal of him and chasing was always destined to be his thing. He showed what he could do at Ascot last season and he's a horse with a great deal of ability. He's done plenty of schooling and he's been good at home - hopefully he can transfer that to the track. In an ideal world I would have started him off over 2 ½ miles but it's a small field for a valuable prize and he's getting weight off his rivals. He's notoriously difficult to get fit at home but I think he's pretty straight and he'll be going there with every chance.
Anyway i ll be backing him aswell , owe s me nothing , getting 5lbs off the other 3 and very positive this morning in the market 11/4 now .....And if he gets beat confident we ll get it back off him over the winter

Had a stake saver on Shotgun Paddy at 9-4. Don't fancy the other two at all.
Couldn't have called that much worse!! Up and Go needed rousting to have any sort of cut at his fences.
I thought he jumped ok to be honest, just was in very bad need of the run. Not one to lose faith in at all yet, next time will reveal all.
Mushroom is right Callit , ran really well and made very few errors , worth another try....
I don't know WR, unless Maguire pushed him into the obstacle, he slowed into them. No doubt he needed the run, but equally I wouldn't be as confident now as I was before the race, that he will improve much, if any for chasing. I wouldn't say he made errors, just on quite a few occasions, lost lengths going into them.
I stopped at one early , then proceeded to jump the rest well enough ,with McCain saying it would need the run ..Worth a few more chances , you can never dismiss them after just the one run....
i was @haydock today..i wouldnt give up on mccains there 2wks behind..he is trying to not have the same thing happen as last season..his runners were over the top by chelts..so he has not been as hard on them as normal..so they will come on for a run or 2..i spoke to him today..they fancied there bumper runner which won!..the best horse he has may run @newcastle on wednesday...i also had the pleasure of talking to gordon elliot at haydock today..really nice guy..
no sorry to say i got well and truely walloped by the bookies...
