Oh sorry Joseph has a weight problem, hang on a minute guys this can be sorted in a few seconds, at the start of Josephs first season as a professional jockey, we'll sneak it in under the noses of everyone, all maidens, condition and group races will be perfectly ok for the golden boy.

I know we have an 8st4 limit for lightweight jockeys but it was imperative that we up the weights for these races?, how the gutless media let this go is beyond  me?,it told me all I need to know about racing journalism, a disgrace to the people they claim to represent.

The raising of the weights was discussed and agreed seven years ago,it just took awhile to implement it.

People are heavier now and the days of natural seven stone men are long gone.

The weights were raised back in 2006 Wildman I think? bringing the minimum up to 8st4, the raising of weights for condition, group & maiden races was never an issue until along came a jockey from a powerful stable who had problems controlling his weight, all of a sudden a convenient weight change was covertly sneaked in.

If the rest of the world thought there was a problem with these type of races you would think they would follow Irelands lead?, they didn't because there isn't a problem.

Paul Carberry and many like him would've loved to have such a powerful influence when riding on the flat, they had to give in to their weight problems so the jump game became inevitable.

Wildman I know you're not naive but in this case you're steadfastly refusing to accept that powerful forces were at work for these weight changes to be thrust under the noses of everyone just before the start of the flat season, even the media didn't have an inkling that this was about to happen, it took everyone by surprise.

For what its worth Silver I agree with you about the timing of the increase being dubious to say the least.I actually think I pointed it out first on a thread about the Jockey's Championship.
However as your views on the issue are well documented do you really need to hijack totally unrelated threads to go on and on about it?

well maybe it was a little off topic tolmi but we are talking about stewarding or the lack of when it comes to the more powerful forces in racing so it was not entirely off topic, as bigwill says it was the small guy again who they singled out even if it was deserved, the day they start catching the big guys or should I say untouchables? will be the day I give Irish stewarding some respect but I won't wait up.

Wouldn't it be very interesting viewing if that horse went and won a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown at Christmas , or some other meeting televised by RTE racing? !

Brian wouldn,t be giving you any idea of its chances thats for sure,that was proved at Galway. Head was pulled off,agree it was blatant.
